@MovieholicsAnonymous The reason it diverts from the books so much in the second half is because at the time only volume 2 was out and Bryan was in the process of writing the other books so they only had his draft notes and location shots to go on. It's all explained in much better detail in the DVD commentary with Edgar Wright, Michael Bacall and Bryan Lee O'Malley than I can adequately explain here, so... yeah.

@MovieholicsAnonymous The movie wasn't lazy at all. It's a film, so you have to CONDENSE in order to make everything fit. You also have to keep everything simple and character driven. Todd and Envy are the main villains here, so they should be focused on, hence why he is the one to punch.

Also, 4, 5, and 6 weren't even written yet when they started writing the film. 6 wasn't even done being written when they finished shooting the film. So of course the film did its own thing to a degree.

@MovieholicsAnonymous that is a bit true but they were writing the books and movie at the same time they always collaberated on different ideas. The idea of the amp vs amp was originally in the books but O'Malley didn't want to draw the dragons and yetti. the movie was being filmed after the 5th book came out its not really their fault the studio was probably going to cancell the project if they didn't. Plus they did their best at fitting 6 books in to one movie.

Let's be honest here. This is 6 graphic novels packed into two hours. Lazy is the wrong word. Seriously, how would they have done the giant super-sayain Gideon or have enough time to introduce Lisa or Mr Chau for five minutes? Spiderman had the problem of bringing in too many characters, and this film planned to avoid that. It's still a good movie. And it's quite loyal to the book.

It's not very important, and it doesn't really bug me that much, I was just looking forward to seeing some bionic arm action.
