In 3:10-3:25, the pastor states that there is no biblical president in regards to God laughing at our foolishness. Psalm 59:8; Psalm 37:13; Prov.1:23-28. These are examples of God laughing in derision at the puny, futile efforts of those who think they can rise above, defeat or live separately from God. Really it is laughable. None of us would want to be the object of God's laughter in this instance. And neither does God as the vast majority of scripture is God begging people to surrender to Ch
I'm fairly sure the whole song is about No one is Laughing at god when your life is falling apart because if there is a god who would be destroying your life?
I did go and check out that song and I can see her point of view especially around Christmas, we've taken the baby Jesus and turned into some kind of icon forgetting the grownup version and the saving grace He gave us.
@newhopecalgary I think also that with her songs she doesnt know how she feels before she starts writing and that she uses them as a way to clear up her own confusion, thoughts on that :) ?
not sure but as others have pointed out she sees things through the lens of being Jewish which carries with it the waiting for the messiah who is yet to come.
Isn't god a human too? We all sometimes laugh at mistakes. At lot of the things she does say is true to others that are not of your religion. It's just how people are. Your wife must have gotten the wrong memo.
Also the part about "when the crazies say he hate us and they get so red in the face you think they're bout to choke"
That part especially struck me to the heart. It's true that people do that in the Name of Jesus, but I don't think that's what God's intent was for the church.
John 3:16 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. I believe, God loves the world so much that he died for it's sins.
In fact it's even stronger that it comes from someone who's not a christian, because it wakes me up to realize how the world sees Christianity at times. (again even if it's not her intent to convey this message) There have been many mistakes made by the church such as concentrating on money, treating God like a genie, or trying to put ourselves above God by making HIM do OUR bidding. I think these things are a horrible example of Christ, but they are true.
Even if this isn't what she meant, this is a meaning you could get from this song. Who knows what she actually meant, other than her? Either way, people can get many strong messages from this song. I believe that everything she said was truth. It is possible, I believe, for God to use someone even if they don't realize or ask for it. I think God has revealed truth in this song that can bring me closer to Him regardless of what her original intent for the song was.
Hey guys... when I wrote this message about Regina, there was never any intent to put words into her mouth, or to ascribe to her a faith she didn't profess. The thinking in behind this talk is that God might be saying something through Ms. Spektor whethere she knows it or not. JVS
Pastor: you have it so wrong. Regina is not talking about other people and what they should believe. Listen carefully. She (and I) are, btw, not followers of Jesus, but Jewish.
The first sentence is about how "We must never try to get Christ to serve us instead of us serving him." Neither Regina, nor I , nor millions of others need another party's involvement in our relationship with God. We do believe in God: one God.
I am not sure the Apostle Paul was ostensibly talking about in the other passage he mentions
Everyone is entitled to pray the way they want to, or not to at all. I do not need Christians to tell me how, when or to whom I should pray.

Sort of, we were just trying to say that when things are good most people forget about God, when things go down the tubes however...

@esaslaw
I don't hear him so much talking about "Jesus." Although, I do hear lots of mention of "God"-- and as I recall, Jews believe in "God" too.
