Guys in the NHL hit too hard and can end your career with one punch. Thats why you dont see these fights, they just grab on close to each other and hold on for dear life.

Donald Brashear played in this league during the Lock-out, and he lost some open fights like these. Some of the goons in the league are doing UFC so they still hit fucking hard.
yah, and punches are actually generating a ton more force than it seems like when you're on ice... diggin your skates down and in not only gives you a better base to lean off of, but you really cant back down at all either, other than turtling. Holding the jerseys takes some force off tho.

See, when you have your skates dug into the ice, there is nowhere for you to go. You really can't stagger backwards or anything, you just absorb the full shock of the punch. Add to that an ideal form of traction that lets you add tons of power. That's why punches that don't look particularly hard do extreme amounts of damage in hockey fights.

Of course you do see real fights sometimes... Ala McCarty wiping Lemieux's blood all over the ice in front of Detroit's bench.
i think mirasty was mic'd up so u could actualy hear the sound of the punches. that made it a little disturbing for the faint of heart but it was on the of the best captured fights in the LNAH. u don't get fight quality like this in the NHL
