  • Great work brother, Id suggest to anyone who wants to get "free information" to take an actual art class with a fine art teacher, not just a tattoo artist. Tattooing is not just picking up a machine and calling yourself and artist, Research all aspects of art then do it....Oh and before you fuck up someone get some pig skin, google it!

  • bom

  • there was no video of shading the face, thats what peolpe are watching this video for whats the point, if your gonna post a video of yourself shading a portrait, you need to video the shading of the portrait, explain the lighting situations, how to apply different shades of greywash to certain areas

  • @chevyck95 thats bob tyrrell don't think you can give any advice to him ...lol

  • please tell me what tube that is and what sized needle is it???

  • hey Karl, i heard that portrait tattoos ( mostly ) dont consist of line work and done with mostly shading, my question is if you know if the artist was just shading the whole portrait with a black and grey wash inks only .. and if he used MAG neddles haha thanks a BUNCH! if you can help me :)

  • bob tyrell is the man.....praise to him is do! if u r really trying to learn something from this ..... pay close attention to the speed in which he moves and the deliberateness of his actions.... no scratching the skin!.....this man truly know exactly what he is doing! anyone who thinks anything different is a goddamned idiot!

  • BOB TYRELL......THE KING" OF PORTRAITS.AND BLACKNGREY

  • People expect youtube to be edited like Miami Ink is... like one moment it's a stencil next it's fully healed... excuse the ignorant...

  • such skill

  • Comment removed

  • @rippmatic it's the blood mixing with the applied ink, dude.

  • @wowchuckles cool thx. i couldn't watch it all on my phone

  • @rippmatic haaha...retard.....its bob tyrell...he uses pelikan ink...and pretty much only pelikan unless he gets some new stuff to try and get paid for using

  • @rippmatic your welcome,thanks for removing your ignorant response....lol

  • When your shading like that it is like giving the skin a big brushburn, of course it will look red like that, it will last for about 3 hours untill the skin finally swells down

  • SLAYER!!

  • what needle size you useD?

  • yall haters need to shut ur mouth. bob is 1 if not the best @ wat he does. hands down!!!!!

  • Good job....

  • hey nice work.and dude whom thinks this tat is bad looking.u grab a damn machine' oh no wait its permenant..rofl.btw dumbass the tat heals up one shade lighter.

  • I do know something about tattooing, and that dude is fucking up her skin. You should never do a dry-wipe on a portrait, and that skin is way too irritated to be doing such detail-oriented work on, a lot of the greywash's tonal variety gets lost in the red.

  • @napalmbones you are the stupidest person in the world, and you used a tattooer word, dry wipe,so you know something, one thing you dont know is this is one of the best portrait artists in the world, his name is BOB TYRRELL,and if you can do better lemme know and prove it.....

  • @napalmbones haha , you're fucking retarded . Tyrell is a master . you dont know a fucking thing .

  • Is that a 7 mag ? What kind of needle is he using??

  • what brand of ink do u use when doing portraits. is it really watered down grey wash, or a certain kind/brand? and does any one know a brand of tattoo ink (to line) that doesn't smear....(something that wipes clean the way grey wash does)

    -thanks.

  • @phleshR2FK any portrait that has lines was shittily done...you ever see lines on someones face?....its greywash...diluted pelikans drawing ink....funny right the master using not a tattoo ink but something for a pen...lol.....

  • Thanks for posting. I just learned a whole new thing a bout tattoos. With the red skin trying to shade in it. Must be hard to do

  • Sweet

  • Hey Karl! hate to bug you, do you knowif thats the pulse solution he has hooked up to the mag? Sweet portrait, and bob is a great artist btw.

Too bad youtube lets any swinging dick put his two cents on this. The tattoo looks great, also nice to see how a master puts down a graywash!

  • @BlackJag92 sorry for the late reply, it's not a pulse it's a custom made made machine

  • @megaTatman heheheh ok i agree with that part how it will look in 5 to 10years!!...and if im talking about age is cause in time you keep getting better and trust me you learn your shadows or dark areas things that you didnt use to see before!!...and like i said i love tyrrells work but this one my opinion was that i didnt diggit!!!...ofcourse art aint perfect but since you talk out of your ass you dipshit!!...are you a wizard boy thats why you keep calling me like that??? grow up!!!

  • Could look smoother when it heals , maybe the pic has a good amount of shade in it , i dont know cause the pic is not shown, but to all that jump on people for there opinion need to chill out, to much hate on u tube, to many children i guess

  • Xxsurcentalxx i agree with you , he over did it, i think its way to dark but when it heals it could get more smoother , who knows but still i think that it looks to dark and not like the pic even if i havent seen it, and to all that hate on a opinion or really a fact suck a dick

  • @Headshothorror4488 HAAAAA! your little double wide tailer couldn't even hold all of Bobs Tyrrells trophies.

  • @megaTatman look lil bitch i didnt disrespect nobody!!..but i would wish you would try to slap me!!!!!!..ill give you my adress bitch!!!...im not jealous you moron!!.{i said i love his work}.. i love art and i respect it!!...but if you was to know the values you will understand what im talking about bitch!!.. you fucking moron!!..call me what the fuck you want bitch but you act like you never was a scratcher or you act like you never fuck up nobody MR.perfect!!!...it was just my opinion....

  • @youngstarrzzz yes your rite i wont argue about that!.no i never said i was better!. cause their is always someone better then the other!..yes i have 28years of drawing experience but i wont put nobody down for their art&i love art and art aint perfect!..but by the shape and darkness he did and people who understands the values!.i think he over did it!..i could be wrong but im 80percent sure he over did it!..i love this mans work!..but i would of been disapointed!!!..thats my opinion...

  • @xxsurcentralxx First off, your 29 years old so don't give me that 28 years of drawing experience shit. If thats the case Bob has over 40. And tattoos are for life, he thinking about long term, what the tattoo will look like in 5..10 years. Tattoo work takes a drastic step down when all the redness come out and they heal. Thats why the values are dark. You have no clue what your talking about. Go shove your wand up your ass wizard boy!

  • @xxsurcentralxx tattoos heal lighter so you cant talk about over doing it coz you havnt seen the finished piece..you dont know what ur on about.

  • p.s. the guy's skin is obviously sensitive in that area...thats why the tattoo is red and badlooking

  • @youngstarrzzz you're right and it was actually pretty bad skin.

And for some of the know it alls here, the guy's Asian and had fairly dark skin, hence it's a bit darker to make it stand out. If you knew somthing about tattooing then you should know that the final healed up result counts and that it needs to stay as good as the skin allows it for as long as it allows it.

  • @PremiumKarl Do you know the manufacturer? Now I can see the machine better, the vice threw me off, I remember pulse having a pinch style vice on their machines, but now I see a wingnut, that pulse never used.

  • @PremiumKarl That looks like its going to heal good and look great. I didnt read any of the comments made by others. I've been tattooing for about 18 years now and this is the best work I've seen on here.

  • nice work

  • Comment removed

  • @xxsurcentralxx You have no idea what your talking about kitchen wizard. This portrait is amazing, your obviously a jealous scratcher. You should be punched in the face with my dick bitch! Kick ass work Bob.

  • @xxsurcentralxx look...every tattoo artist had his own technique in tattooing...myself and some others collegues use a similar one as u see in the video....we use wery light greywash...and beacuse of that the skin becomes more irritated...so...more red...when the skin is red u cant really see the clear image of how the tattoo will look like.only the tattoo artist(if hes a good one)will undertand it.personaly i would agree with u if u can proove that youre much better than this guy...

  • @xxsurcentralxx You're full of shit, I sat next to him and the girl in the pic next to me. The reference it's taken off, she's got her 2 hands on each cheak spreading the face a bit, on top of that it's on the inner tigh, so if you know something about tattooing, then you'll know that that part spreads aswell when you sit down. There's no pic of the finished result in the video, maybe go and check his site out, the girl got a piercing on her lower lip and she's got her hands against her cheaks

  • @xxsurcentralxx First off...the only garbage here is your grammar. This was done on sensitive skin, which redens very quickly and very darkly. You can see this in his portfolio and it is to the same exacting standard as the rest of his work.

  • way too red in the face

  • @Php48 That's what happens with a fresh tattoo. There's no red at all. His greywash is so diluted that you can barely see the shading. Once it healed I'm sure it looked awesome! This artist obviously knows what hes doing!

  • imprésionant !

  • thats an ugly portrait get your money back.

  • does anybody know how much it will cost me to get my dad's face on my arm?its not gon be dat big tho

  • I love Bob Tyrell!!!!!!!!!

  • looks good. :) i dont do portrait work but i draw people a lot. I mite have to give it a shot.

  • cant help it lol ,i think it's funny that commenters are trying to give Tyrell advice HA !

an absolute pro like tyrell wont have the needle sticking out too far and certainly uses the foot swich as necessary.

  • hahahaha bob tyrell is god!!!

  • I was all "hey, this guy is good!" Oh, its Bob Fucking Tyrell..duh haha.

  • Thank you for posting this helpful video

  • I have been doing skin art for 23 years now, i've used starbrite, intenze, millinum, kuri sumi, alla prima, zuper black, talons black, one black, and even in the beginning of my carreer ive used spaulding and rogers and superior inks. I agrre with a few comments here that most of these inks are of quality, i now use only alla prima, kuri sumi, intenze, and starbrite, but there are certain colors i will use from each set and i've yet to try all the alla prima ink line but well on my way to all!

  • um yes this is bob 100% no dout about it one of the best mad repect

  • nice work

  • SLAYERRRR!

  • wwwwwwwhhhhhaaaa???? he did that by EYE?????? wow, is their any way of making a stensill?,, that is a real tatooist, amazing

  • is this so brown, about the blood .....????? later its so grey/black or????

  • @1000000Bars blue (((

  • @1000000Bars It looks more brown/red because most of it is a light grey, blood and skin irritation show through more when lighter colors are used...when the tattoo is healed it will be grey.

  • id be totally surprised if that truly wasbob tyrell. Why? simple....his portraits are life like that looks standard. maybe when he first started? iv seen many of his things. portraits are way better than that. but...would be surprised

  • yes it is bob tyrrell, and to clarify, he is using a 7 mag with #10 bugpin needles, and his ink is pelican ink, thats all he uses, besides eternal brand for red and white. I recently took a portraiting seminar with him.

  • thats awesome mate!

  • Looks great...very nice work.

  • This probley wont be answered but here goes anyway?? I tattoo my self and only use RD-11 and up only's, but yet I still bleed like a stuck pig why is that??

and it's only when I"m shading it in.

Any help will be most appreciated. TIRED OF BLEEDING TO DEATH!!!

  • @Shinaide1992 sloww down ur machines and ur hand and u shood get better shades and less BLOOD lol hope it helped

  • @JADYONE it's Bob Tyrell working, obviously you don't have a clue what you're talking about. @SerbianEagleCCCC same counts for you

  • Thank God for laser removal

  • @JADYONE What's wrong with the tattoo? It looks great, Great artist.

  • graze the skin with my fingertips

  • it's nice to see someone who knows what the hell they're doing....Great job, eh...

  • very good. I wish I had that talent

  • wow, either that girl was really ugly or your just a shit artist

  • @SerbianEagleCCCC shit u think hes a shit artist lets see ur work. big talk for a guy with a keyboard.

  • @freadyted You can see my artwork between my ballsack and my arsehole.

  • @SerbianEagleCCCC you fucking Twat!

  • @SerbianEagleCCCC you Twat!! fuck off!

  • here here hoppin rabbit , well put.. would my journeyman tattoo artist mind if i stood over his /her shoulder with a magnifyin glass? didnt think so.

  • nice work

  • Can you please tell me which machine is which ? One machine has a curved body structure and the other has a straight one ( If you know what i mean ) I'm a complete beginner. Thank you

  • It doesnt matter that people hate here, thats all thru the world. What matters is that you learn from these videoes and tutorials and start somewhere. Those people hatin are in the business of hatin cause they are payin up the ying yang for what were gettin in the videoes. The artists are hatin cause were gettin from you tube what they are charging thousands and thousands for.

  • Testament and Slayer in the background badass... Love Bob Tyrrell

  • instead of mixing ink with water or other stuff just mix ink with white.true gray shading is great.bc ull know how it will heel.its smooth.and u use 1 machine foe everything bc consistency is same.for this tipe of tattoing u need long and hard hitting machine.

    good luck!!!

  • Really nice portrait!

Bless that talent, keep up the good art work!

Tattoos like these are the ones that make me stare to people and see all the details haha

  • haha i heard slayer in the background and my first thought was to turn it up haha

  • i like kuro sumi outline ink .ive used starbrite for ever and yeah its good too.sumi gos in like butter and is dark as hell

  • i found the sumi colours a bit dull tho, i hear starbrite is good

  • in my opinion the best inks to use are intenze, sumi colors or skin candy. intenze is very expensive but you will not be unhappy with your results very amazing bright color

  • Thats gotta hurt :(

  • The needles used were 7 mags, weaved, .35 and the inks was k's premium tattoo colours, diluted.

so no need anymore to guess now.

  • @PremiumKarl no,he use Pelikan ink and curved magnum 0.25...

  • gadigadigadigadi

try holding down the pedal for a lil bit when u dip it in the ink it'll ride up the needle and hold it.

it also depends how watered down your ink is.

you have to constantly dip ur needle in the ink.

  • Or try not out not putting your foot on the pedal at all. I never do as I do not want to hit the cup by mistake and dull the needles, it will still take the ink.

  • yes thank you ive learned haha it does actually work better that way thanks.

  • i tried using a mag and for some reason the ink does not hold on to it ...to the machine i mean, so when i start tattooin nothing really shows only blood. can anyone help?

  • it sounds like too much of your needle is sticking out the end of the tip, the tip acts as a sort or reservoir of ink and if the needle tip cant get to it properly ink wont cling. :)

  • could be the way you holding the gun have to be in a angle

  • what sizes of needles did you used on this potrait

  • has anyone used scream inks. they are cheap. if no one has i got a 10 so il give feed when i get them

  • Ink spitting out comes from several factors either there is not enough bend in your needle or you have too big of a tip for the needle your using! Diamond tips are most likely to spatter and as for ink any pro can use the shittiest inks on the market and still produce a bad ass piece! ALLAPRIMA inks are better than intenze and so is Eternal! In my experience intenze only has a few colors that i enjoy applying the rest is either to watery or too damn thick! try Joe capo's brand easy glow! jimmyV

  • skincandy sun inks are pretty nice also..

  • @newbornsameerah

the guy who makes sun is the one who formulated and train other how to make ink such as alla prima , skin candy , joker , he gets them started but his is better because they have to figure stuff out , alla prima was all over for a year before it got as good as it is

  • @Jamonem80

never had an issue with diamond tips. no shitty ink is shit ink if it doesnt go in then jesus cant make it act like good ink. alla prima is not better than intenze , eternal is the shit

  • Ok folks im back again lol... when your machine spits a shit load of ink from the needle and it gets everywhere...how do you prevent this? am I filling it up too much?

  • @RadOne83

im only starting to tattoo but i think it is that u are filling ur well up to much in the gun or ur ink is nt bin shaken enouth and is to thick hope it helps

  • your needle is jumping around in the tube. you need to put a outward bend to the needle bar . the bands will pull it back straight and keep pressure on the needle against the tip.

  • awesome tattoo work and great advice giving, i love seeing a artist take their time to bring a beautiful picture together.

    looks great.

  • its all about the tattoo ink! Intenze Products! The ink is proper. Forget all the other stuff on the market~

  • not all other stuff , Eternal is also awesome. allaprima ,skin candy, joker are all inks that were made by folks who were taught by the same guy. he makes sun ink it is better than theirs

  • The needle he is useing is eather a 7 flat or a 7 curved mag.The technique he is useing is called "whipping".Whip shading is to get a good dark at the begging of the shade and feather out into a lighter shading and is done by laying in the needle when you begin and at the end of your shade whipping the needle up to give it a feathered effect. The reason for the ink going in so nice is he is streching the skin.

  • thats a nice video shows a good example of the perfect kind of shade and area of ink it covers...can someone plz lemme kno what kind of needle that is...

i can see its a flat, but is it rly 5? (the guy below)

  • bob tyrell

  • bob tyrell is on point with his portraits! Mike DeMasi is official. You know why hes official bc he only uses Intenze Products Ink.

  • What is the best Needle for shading? Im not a dumbass or anything but I have like 7R shaders and shit and it takes me like 3 mid speed runs over a quarter sized piece of skin to get a mid tone, v.s. this guy with his, doing it in one. Just looking for advice guys.

  • i use a 7 curved magnum dude works well for me or a 9 mag depends on size of tattoo it goes up!

  • wicked video

    thanks

  • yeah it looks dark now but when it heals it wont be as dark

  • DEADDDDD, SKINNNNN, MAAAAAAASK!

  • i think thats a little too dark for my taste. Could be a birth make like beaverbeater said but I think he ran out of the ink mix he was using and when he mixed the 2nd batch it was too light or too dark. Cant tell if thats the case tho.

  • Is that a 7?

  • looks a little big to be a 7

  • It's probably a 5.

  • that will be grey by the time the skin heals.

  • agree its not too dark, the skin is just really irritated so it adds to it looking darker, but should

    heal just fine

  • its curved magnum i think..

  • does anyone else think he way over did it on the shading for the face? it looks like her face is a giant birth mark

  • If you think Bob Tyrell 's portraits look like giant birthmarks, you must be a cracking tattooist yourself.

  • mayb that person has a giant birth mark on the face lol

  • lol... harsh but funny

  • i agree.

  • It´s Bob Tyrell working in Singapore, Karl was filming it.

  • slayer DEAD SKIN MASK!!!

*graze the skin with my fingertips-The brush of dead cold flesh appease the means*

I love hearing that lyric when im giving a tattoo

  • IS HE USING A ROUND SHADER?

  • mh no seems a flat one

  • no he uses a 7 bugpin mag.

  • Is it long stroke?

  • yes

  • Yeah!!! SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is that a person you are tattooing? cuz it look lite some jelly stuff

  • That's Bob Tyrrell, pretty sure. Shading technique is difficult to explain. There's so much to it that you really can only learn from talking to/watching a tattoo artist at work.

  • Yeah, it`s him. I`ve seen the finished product in in tat is in Tattoo magazine from July(they are always way early) this year, it`s credited with his name.

  • Edit: I was wrong, it`s not the same tattoo. Sorry, what to expect from a crazyperson.

  • how do you shade? any tips please.
