  • What more can be said?

    EXCELLENT!!!!!

  • I really enjoy your stuff--since you're playing GFR! For me, you reveal complexity in the drum play that wasn't clear to me just listening to the music. A good example of this is your play on "Don't Let Them Take Your Gun."

Nice job on this too, but I wish you would do the studio version as well --- the drums on the live version are somewhat simplified in comparison.

  • @Chas4132247 Yes the drums on the studio version a really a lot different and I would agree a little more difficult. Actually almost a different feel.

I'm glad you are enjoying this music and this video. Thanks

  • Where do you live ...my great bass playing friend loves Grand funk ??

  • @ricmcmiliion I work in NYC. Where is he from? Is he on YouTube?

  • FUCK YEA DUDE THAT FUCKING ROCKED!!!!!

  • Shinin On is a one of the Grand Funk's Drummers song,I think. A lot of high lights from the middle to the end of the song! You are great at not only skill but groove. Keep On funkin!

(But I'm a Base player and Mel works hard in this song ,too!)

  • @yoshihirokomazawa They all work hard - that's what comes across. Thank You for the comment

  • Gives me CHILLS, my friend! I cut my teeth on GFR as well, as soon as I heard "Are You Ready" on the Live Album I was hooked (I've played bass for 33 years).

To me, when a player respects a song/band enough to totally nail their parts says a lot - all I can say is I'd love to jam with you sometime! I'm not necessarily into tribute bands, but I'll bet if we found "Mark" we could definitely get some people smiling on!

  • @mysterj1 Well get your video camera out and plug it in and record something and we can jam!. This is You Tube - Anything is possible

  • Joe, you are da man.....

  • @fredthejunkman Thanks - Hope all is well for 2012

  • Just love watching you cover all of Grand Funk tunes! Of all the bands you do, GFR moves me the most. You seem to really have passion when you play the GFR ones. Thanks for the entertainment.

  • @Rawhide53 I'm glad you do. Yes they are my favorite band to play. I know all of the songs. And it's comments like yours that make me want to take the time an put these together. Thanks so much.

  • Great cover and video!! thumbs up!!!!

  • @barneyruble40 Thanks!

  • don brewer, one of the greatest ever, this drum channel guy is very entertaining!

great choice of songs and video editing

  • @knightevilmagician - Thanks so much - You don't see too many people covering him these days. Just trying to let people see how he plays! Thanks again

  • I like your videos and your colaboration with Twangy. Do you know what happened to his videos and how to contact him??

    Thanks

  • @jfbailey01 He is back but I did see for a while that his channel dissapeared.

  • Very Cool!

  • Ok, you're an awesome drummer, I hope one day you serious Close to home.

  • @victorgehringer I will - shortly

  • Comment removed

  • @BellumSacrumBellum28 - Yes it is!

  • Two things - Again, thanks for such an awesome performance and thanks so much for returning my ears to the rich skills of Grand Funk Railroad. I just sit here watching and listening in awe.

  • @jonn1070 - So glad you like these videos. I really appreaciate when people leave nice comments. Makes it worth the effort to make them. Thanks again

  • @TheDrumChannel - Indeed, and I personally understand just how much work goes into it (drum mix not even included) - A/V recording, edits, codecs, rendering, uploading - It's certainly a Labor of Love and your work is proof of that Joe, thank you!

  • @jonn1070 - Aaahh Codecs :(

  • Perfection! That was a blast to watch, love those drum rolls. Made me dig out my GFR CDs and rip Shinin' On to my mp3 player for some yard work. Thanks, bro!

  • @LPSWBB Glad you still have the CD's! - gotta love Don Brewers rolls. They are great! Thanks again

  • Gotta love GFR. Once again Joe, you blow us away with another 5 star performance. It is so cool watching you play.

  • @StarHomer Thanks man. This is my comfort zone though. Something about his drumming that really connects with me. Gotta love the GFR!

  • Great job! It just blows me away on how you figure out exactly what Brewer is doing. I guess that when you drum so much, you hear everything. Keep the videos coming!

  • @webman1956 I'll keep making them if you keep watching them! I guess it's just training of the ear. Like when a piano player can hear something and just play it and figure out all those notes. I think that is so hard to do, but he probably says the same thing about drums. Thanks again so much.

  • @webman1956 One GFR song that might be worth doing is "Rock & Roll American style" from the "What`s Funk?" album. It kind of reminds of Farner`s version of "We`re an American Band".

  • wow ! GFR is my favorite band !

and your drumming is great ! saiko~!

  • @akamustang1966 Your welcome!!

  • Absolutely fantastic, Joe. You really have every aspect of the video cover down. You know I'm a big quality freak, it really makes your videos that much more enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work - 5ive stars and Two Thumbs Up from me. *****

  • @MyTwangyGuitar - Thanks Sam - I'm trying! I still can't render in AVI - My machine just won't preview properly and I can't edit without a realtime preview, but I did figure out what format it likes, so I'll just stick with it for now till I get a better machine. Your vids are just so crystal clean it kills me when I see them. Thanks again for all your help with the videos and if you see something wrong, please let me know. PS - did you see the tribute video for Rob that I did in March? TTYL

  • excellent !!!!!!!!

  • @countgr Thanks

  • Oh my God! That was outstanding - thoroughly enjoyed watching that.

  • @DaddyDrums1 - thanks - Your videos are really good as well. Take care and thanks

  • I like so much see you playing - Grat Job

  • @Murilobuzzard Thanks - more to come!!

  • Oh Man this song Rocks !!! Me Likey !!!

  • @robertsutter - Thanks Rob - I got some time off shortly, so I'll be doing a few Journey songs - Hopefully you will sing them as well.

  • @prince8260 Thanks man - Nice compliment.. Brewer has a lot of heart and soul in it too. Always had and always will. At least he's still out there playin. I know that's what I would do.

  • Very good! I would like you to touch Close to home, which is one time that I asked you!

    Congratulations!

  • @victorgehringer That will eventually come out. It's a long process to make these videos.

  • @victorgehringer That will eventually come out. It's a long process to make these videos.

  • Always first class! You should be on tour or doing work as a studio drummer. I keep thinking somebody is gonna see one of your videos and sign you up.

PS> How's "Winter and My Soul" coming along?

  • @fredthejunkman - Well wouldn't that be nice - I guess it has happened but I'm not sure I'm an aspiring artist any more. More like an expiring artist :)

But I love to play so I guess I'll be here for a while.

  • woooooooooooowWWwW ! what a playing.

  • @drumsjillu Thanks

  • Nice job! (again) Let's not forget that Don Brewer is not only playing that great drum part but is also doing the lead vocal on this one too! I have always thought that the Caught in the Act album really showed off how important he was to their sound. His playing / singing on that album is amazing.

  • @Jimmers131005 - Thanks glad you like it. Yeah he was a big part of the sound. I guess you could say their sound was being refined around the time of that album. For me I remember playing these songs when it first came out so that's why I do these songs. They are the ones I learned on. My brother turned me on to them really early.

  • Man as always very enjoyable to watch...Im just not sure the people that watch this(unless their also musicians) appreciate your timeing...it's impeccable...What your doing is extremely hard to do and you make it look easy..awesome job!

  • @Maxharddrive64 Thanks so much. I teach this kid lessons an I always say "it's not what you hit it's when you hit it." Thanks again

  • Joe, wow, I'm again impressed, and again taken back to those absolutely wonderful years of Grand Funk music. You bring new life to this stuff, and make me want to re-enjoy those magic, forever memorable moments of our youth and that feeling of TOTAL FUNK!!!! Great job my friend!!!

  • @DRMessinger you said it better than i could DRMessinger I can't agree with you more.....

  • @DRMessinger Thanks - I'm reliving my youth all over again as well. It's the only thing that keeps me sane these days in this crazy world we live in. Thanks

  • Great!

  • @segundarepublica Thanks

  • good stuff Joe !

  • @satchbooggy Thanks

  • Awesome cover! The video quality is way better now and finally I can see how nice and shiny your drums really are.

Im a bit surprised to see the depth of your snare, is it only 3.5"? It sounds great though, but I thought it was deeper judging from the sound.

I recently ordered some recording equipment for my acoustic drums, so expect some of my future covers to be recorded on "real" drums.

    Keep up the great drumming.

  • @Utube2Itube Would love to see the acoustic version of you. The snare is bigger - look at the left side of the snare (not the right) and you will see the full depth. It's a Ludwig snare but there are no markings on it other than Ludwig. I'm surprised it's lasted this long.

  • Ah yeah, nice bro - that rocked indeed.... listening while I work (people think I'm listening to the company's president's monthly meeting LOL... if only they knew). We gotta do an American Band collab some day! Wasn't that how we "met"? Tough part will be getting the right vocals...

  • @PDXguitarfreak Yeah - If I had big enough b*lls, I'd try, but I might lose all my subscribers!

  • This is A High Class Drumer: ThedrumChannel******

  • @recharchic Thanks so much - Nice comment from you. Thanks

  • Your 2 Cool! "if there is such a thing". I used to bang this song off a 45 thru my Dads Bozaks! Good times!

  • PERFECTLY played, Joe! Those rolls in the middle are not easy to get right. Brewer is very under-rated as a drummer. I have a Modern Drummer tape with him, and he's wondering why he's there, as he says he's not a chops technician. But his performance was the best on that tape! I was very impressed. As am I here with this cover. Great job! And of course, the production was superb!

  • @17drums Thanks - I'm trying - hopefully every one gets better. Still learning. Gotta love his rolls. He puts a lot of heart and soul in there. Like Bonham, not terribly difficult on the beats but the heart is in there for sure. Thanks again my friend

  • I loved the video editing! Awesome drummer too!

  • @Gam3fr3ak96 - Thanks for the compliment on both - A lot more effort goes into the production than the playing. Thanks so much

  • Excellent!!

  • @billmomentum Thanks!

  • AWESOME man! kick a8* drumming and awesome video mix bro! you are amazing!

  • @scbene - Thanks - I'm glad you liked it.

  • Very cool vid man! I was fortunate to see GFR a couple of times in the 70's.

    Outstanding bro!

  • @popstotexas I bet you remember seeing Glenn Miller too?

  • @analyzingfunny Actually, yes i do haha!

  • @popstotexas - Thanks - Just trying to keep the Funk alive

  • @popstotexas - Lucky man you are. I was so into them when I was 9 yrs old and my brother had two tickets to Shea stadium and he wen't alone cause the guy he had the ticket for bailed out. I'll never know why he didn't take me. Shit happens.

  • That was tight! I never knew much of GFR's stuff.. but this was grooovy man! What I love is that you make it look so easy because you have so much fun with. Creative video too. You always remind us...this is why we love music...

  • @LesGomez - Still trying to find the right sound and the right picture and your right, I'm having fun doing it. as well. Thanks for taking the time to write a comment. - Much appreciated.

  • Meh.........Bravo Joe.

  • @koolbossjock Long time no hear - Well thanks to one of my diehard GFR friends!

  • Awesome Joe! That's some really tight work. Spot on. And watching you play is as much fun as listening to you - :o)) ha ha Bravo!!!

  • Just amazing Joe, in both playing skill and video editing. You're truly awesome, man!

  • @PookLowEnd Thanks Pook. I like your stuff too. We should do a little jammin soon.

  • @TheDrumChannel hell yeah, maaaan!

  • Awesome job! :) You've about mastered the green screen techniques!

  • @EricSes Still trying - A little better each time - that is all that is expected. Thanks

  • your the best GFR drummer

  • @seonittinoes - Actually Don is - but I'd settle for #2 - Thanks
