The rioting in Hackney happened over several streets - Clarence Rd and Mare Street were the worst hit, my road just off Mare St. had action, it kicked off on Hackney Downs, and properties in backstreets around Hackney Central were damaged. I have had the misfortune of working in a number of police stations (I have no criminal record) and found most coppers to be a bunch of arrogant c**ts. God knows what the selection process is to join the police, probably a degree in being from a middle class background, and being able fill out paperwork.

@colliecandle - The police were completely out numbered on those first 2 nights of the riots - it did indeed look like they were not policing robustly and I was disappointed that they did not get stuck in and do what other police forces would have done in other countries but had they gone in hard I'm sure you'd have accused them of being heavy handed. @colliecandle During the first 2 days of the riots they were outnumbered (esp day 2) and officers would have been killed had they not used stratagies to just keep rioters back from certain areas. When more were drafted in for day 3 we did see more robust policing. At demo's they tend to stand in a line while demonstraters shout and swear (or worse) in their faces when the demo is nothing to do with police but say cuts etc. It's not often that police beat up anyone peaceful thankfully.

Really good video actually, i often find myself angry at the police but it is not them i hate, it is the law that is wrong, the police just do the job and as you rightly point out alot of what they do is right and they have mostly been professional in my experiences of them, obviously there are some bad eggs but we could do a hell of alot worse than the uk police, if we could just fix the laws we'd be sorted
I'm training to be a police officer and in my opinion i believe the reason some police are seen as aggressive or "corrupt" is quite simply the fact that they are working long shifts dealing with endless amounts of ignorant people who just see the police force as "pigs" and not as enforcers of the law, its just natural human reaction.

To all the British Police 'Haters': Would you prefer a foreign Police Force? Maybe a Mexican style force - who often just 'confiscate' all your money without explanation. These type of 'claim' based legal cases are all mounted through the civil courts by private 'where there's blame there's a claim' prosecutions. Police don't have any say in who gets prosecuted as they are not responsible for charging. Often police officers agree with the general consensus of people over the criminal justice system, however they must be impartial

For thirty years I`ve tried to bring to justice men who abused children in a local authority home I worked in. The police and social services did nothing. Not one of the named victims was ever interviewed. WHY.... the abusers were all senior social workers and retired ploicemen. Dont believe me? Whilst the Police do a fantastic job, I do have to say that they are a little uninformed to what is civil and common laws. It does seem however, that some Police Officers are trained to enforce penalties onto people to generate revenue and do not know some acts or statutes they are supposed to know.

The rioting in Hackney happened over several streets - Clarence Rd and Mare Street were the worst hit, my road just off Mare St. had action, it kicked off on Hackney Downs, and properties in backstreets around Hackney Central were damaged. And if you've not noticed the amount of people who get killed on our streets over the years then you need to get your head out of your arse.

I have had the misfortune of working in a number of police stations (I have no criminal record) and found most coppers to be a bunch of arrogant c**ts. God knows what the selection process is to join the police, probably a degree in being from a middle class background, and being able fill out paperwork.

@colliecandle During the first 2 days of the riots they were outnumbered (esp day 2) and officers would have been killed had they not used stratagies to just keep rioters back from certain areas. When more were drafted in for day 3 we did see more robust policing. At demo's they tend to stand in a line while demonstraters shout and swear (or worse) in their faces when the demo is nothing to do with police but say cuts etc. It's not often that police beat up anyone peaceful thankfully.

When i was growing up, police men / women had respect for others, everyone had the highest regards for the constables ( apart for the criminals,lol ) i agree the police have a tough job giving out fines, police constables we are the public, we are humans, like you, so why threaten us with arrest for asking questions, like what have i done wrong or why do i need to give you my I.D, once i got asked what i was looking at, i replied " nothing sir, i was walking past......

To all the British Police 'Haters': Would you prefer a foreign Police Force? Maybe a Mexican style force - who often just 'confiscate' all your money without explanation. Or maybe you'd prefer a Tanzanian style force - not turning up and then if they do, demanding cash or they won't let you onto your own property. Perhaps Jamaica has the right idea, with the 'deadliest police force in the world' - best known for their extra-judicial killings.

I accept that there are good police officers out there but when you hear some of the story's of police officers abusing their power,punching people who are incapacitated on the ground,grabbing people in custody round the throat,striking people with their back turned and getting away with murder it's hard to have much sympathy for them. the good ones need to weed out the bad instead of closing ranks and protecting anyone who is under investigation.

The police are only as good as the public they protect. Without us calling 999 when things go horribly wrong they can't catch the bad guys.
Also if your going to moan about how the police treat protestors, have a look at vids of russian, french and greek police. Our police force do a great job and things could be a lot worse. Also the UK is one of the few places in the world that police don't carry firearms as standard issue, but we still manage to get the job done! Well done guys.

These type of 'claim' based legal cases are all mounted through the civil courts by private 'where there's blame there's a claim' prosecutions. Police don't have any say in who gets prosecuted as they are not responsible for charging. Often police officers agree with the general consensus of people over the criminal justice system, however they must be impartial

Whilst the Police do a fantastic job, I do have to say that they are a little uninformed to what is civil and common laws. It does seem however, that some Police Officers are trained to enforce penalties onto people to generate revenue and do not know some acts or statutes they are supposed to know.
