  • I get more compliments and stares with my hair in it's textured state from people of other races. And I get more compliments from black people when my hair is straight. I dunno i guess its the other way around for me.

  • YES. ig2 private cath. school n im one of the few black ppl and i usually come2 school w/my naturally curly hair in a bun or ponytail. When i come w/ it straight ppl (including guys lol) approach me more, flirt, friendly i feel like my curly hair scares ppl away? The black girls dont talk to me but if they do they touch my hair w/o askin n say wat u do2 ur hair?*no compliments* lik theyr interrogating me lik" why dont u have a weave like me!?" sort of look. i never relax/weave i have2straighten.

  • I actually get more conversation or compliments when my hair is curly. I guess because my hair is always straightened and (because of my texture and my looks and my particular looks I guess) people assume my hair IS straight. It's not though, it's very curly and it surprises. It's a toss up between who like it though. A lot of my friends, my mother and my boyfriend prefer it curly. I think in general most people like it curly... actually. Just not me xD

  • I personally have had some experience like this often except I where my hair straight all the time. But when my hair is freshly washed and flat ironed people who look like me say oh did you get your hair relaxed or did you get a blow out. And im just like no I just washed my hair lol. But I do feel that people are more friendly.

  • Personally mine is a little opposite. People who don't look like me, LOVE my big curly hair &compliment me only when its big &curly. If my hair is straight, they (other races) tend to compliment my face. People who look like me, compliment the straight look more often then the curly. Jus my experience.

  • maybe they are quietly hating, Yes people notice me more with strait hair or they notice some change and cant put there thoughts around what it is,

  • OMG..I thought I was the only person who had that problem..I have family that wont even speak to me when they find out that my hair is real!!

  • I definitely experience this, my best friends and I discuss it all the time. I am Jamaican, living in Jamaica and there isn't much "racism" but there is "class-ism". For guys especially we always notice that after a fresh relaxer you get more attention from them you more and compliments. I really don't want to attribute that type of behaviour to the fact that your hair looks more "acceptable" but what else is there to think when it happens all the time.

  • Friendly is the wrong word. When white people compliment me on my hair Its just a compliment because they know most times I don't wear my hair like that. It doesn't mean suddenly they want to be friends.

If its straight most of the time its no big deal and they probably won't notice. Ex: At one point I only wore my hair straight. Then I did a wash & go so it was big and curly. Then all the white people I was around were like OMG your hair is so big and exotic. They were fascinated. Thats all.

  • yes i am 15 and girls ask me if my hair was a weave or didn't believe it was my hair and yes were more friendly when my hair was bone straight it made me feel as if i was ugly and i am definitly black and definitly beautiful with or without straight hair i think they are raised my young adults who show them that black hair is "not normal" which i still don;t understand why they do this is really y decided to look at your videos b/c u are just like me and u make me understand

  • yup, because i suppose to them u look more "attractive". I'm Jamaican and i get asked alll the time "what u mixed with?"(referring to what ethnicity i am, when i'm black). What i have found is that ppl are more unwilling to accept that darker skinned girls can actually have long, healthy, beautiful hair. If u were light skinned..it would be normal. Ppl are so used to seeing "light" skinned girls w/ long hair and dark ones w/ weaves(eventho errbody wears weaves these days). it's not their fault.

  • @tenouttaten I have to disagree with something that you said. I'm light skinned and yet I get the same reaction that you are speaking on. You said that it would be normal if she was light skinned and I'm asking you not to assume because that's not the case.

  • When I was young and I had just started school I used to get that A LOT from the parents. Some black parents used to even say ''she's too young to be straightening her hair'' to hide their jealousy! lol!

  • Happened to me too. But I not only straightened my hair but waxed my eyebrows as well. All my customers at work talk to me now and call me beautiful. The worst part is, it makes be feel good about myself. What does that say about me? Am I shallow?

  • omg ur hair looks lovely here! what did u do?

  • Many times people who look like you maybe are jealous. I actually had people seem more happy if my hair was a little shorter and would talk to me. Then they would try to give "advice" on how to make my hair grow. But when my hair is longer they wouldn't really talk to me anymore.

  • All in all you look pretty either way. Whether if the hair is curly or straight. Real or weave. God Bless!

  • i think it looks beautiful in the video :)

  • you know them girls are just jealous. smh. cant be happy for nobody

  • I seem to get more attention when my hair is in a curly style or in natural protective styles like twists. I get alot more compliments. I guess it makes me look different and more exotic in some kind or way.

  • It seems to me like they are just shocked about the change. If you always wear your hair up, or always have it curly...obviously people are going to comment when you wear it down, and straighten it.

  • i love your hair i have had relaxed hair since i was 11 but like to years ago i started getting it blown out a couple times a year and even tho my hair is ALWAYS straight i still get that to when my hair is straighter people who dont look like me are amazed but i was talkin to my mom and i plan on going natural :)

  • I know what you mean hunn.. its ridiculous.

  • with my hair straight and down "others" say how beautiful it is and have questions, even with braids or textured styles. sad to say but black people just ask if its real or give a lil slick look.. none the less your hair is gorgeous. I'm tryna start a hair journey this year. does anyone have any advice?

  • Like LoyaltyLoveRespect said, most time "the others" are very interested in the things WE can do with our hair [if they aren't racist]. But WE are always the crabs and always put down instead of lift up each other. You're beautiful Megz, you should go to the ones that act shady and say "I'm wearing my hair up tomorrow, so I'd better talk to you today." LOL! Just kidding Be blessed.

  • they just a lil jealous...that's all!

  • I understand exactly what you mean!!! Why cant my hair be pretty or beautiful the way it is!???

  • White people love my natural hair.... it's black people that always have a problem

  • Oh! I don't have to worry about none of that because I don't wear my hair out for Black or White folks. The only people that see my hair are people that know me. Family functions, special occasions etc...etc. My wigs are all the general public ever sees. Some people think I'm bald underneath and I'm good with that. Don't let these people occupy your time as you'll never be able to figure them out.

  • @julesstillhair Your comment is hilarious. As long as the hair looks good that is all that really matters.

  • Comment removed

  • @gmcmim1

You would think that's all that should matter at the end of day. However, In the real world, people are very complex. Regardless...as long as you rock your hair long or short that's what matters.

  • @julesstillhair people who are complex about hair are most likely stupid anyways. So who cares? Stop worrying about what people think of your hair. As long as you're taking care of it that is all that truly matters. don't be bothered by what a nobody thinks of your hair.

  • No worries! White folks just are amazed that black people can change their hair so often. They seem to find it fascinating even more when you hair looks like theirs. Black folks don't say anything because they just assume that your hair is weave. Even if black folks know your hair is real, they convince themselves that its not. Most of the time, our black people hate on each other.

  • LMMFAO.....GRL U IS CRAZZZY.....OMG UR HAIR IS ...LOL...ME N MY FRNDS LOL SO HARD AT YOU......BUT DAH TRUTH....KEEP WEARING WHT MAKES U HAPPY..LESS PEOPLE,LESS PROBLEMS,EASIER WORK MAWH...

  • Comment removed

  • youre so gorgeous - forget what other people think :)

  • I 199% agree with your statement, i also get the same response after straightening my hair.

  • people at school go crazy when I have braids x)

  • White ppl and other races love my hair when its in its naturally state. White guys think my fro is sexy.

  • yeah when i go to school with my natural curly hair (3c/4a) i always get asked when im going to flat iron it and im no im not! i get that question everyday but its cool

  • Some friends, teachers and classmates (not black) obsess over my hair when I get it relaxed and straight. But once when I had my hair down and straight, a black friend said to me "Wow Is this all yours?" but that's so rare. Which made me happy, of course. But some friends who aren't black compliment me when I wear my hair just out of braids, cane/cornrows or wavy.

But to keep myself from getting down from these treatments, I remember to be happy that my hair can go both ways (curly & straight).

  • Surprisingly my white friends ove my hair more when its natural (i have 3C hair) than when its straight and why black friends/family question why i wear my hair natural, when i do>

  • @MsBigbama yezzir

  • Yeah. I get the same thing. ERRBODY likes me better when my hair is straight. My hair is like samoan, I'm mixed with almost everything.

  • I have been thru the same thing. It's crazy!!!

  • Wow I go through the same thing!!

  • Lol, oh yeah this just happened to me 3 days ago.. all the people who aren't black was like Omg your hair is sooo pretty is it different..

  • - well im 5'10, black, and my hair is to my elbows. im not mixed or anything. but when i wear it straight. people always ask if its mine. i get compliments from everyone tho.

  • its funny, I had the opposite happen. i wrk at an hbcu, and when i got my natural hair temporarily straightened, chicks i didnt even know gave me the stank eye "what happened to your natural hair" "o my God, you got a perm?!" i was met w/open hostility. it was crazy. now that i'm all curly again, its all smiles. On the other hand, guys in general were much flirtier and gave me way more attention when my hair was straight. But that's why you do things for yourself, cause ppl are fickle as hell

  • Happens to me all the time

  • I feel like people definitely treat me differently depending on how I wear my hair and i think its just wat society has taught people to believe is pretty. Its sad and very small minded but such is life. Ur hair is beautiful by the way no matter which way you wear it :)

  • I usually go to a majority of white people at my school but one yr, i went to a black school and the and one week my mom took down my braids and straightened my hair and the black/white/mexican people loved it and they stopped making fun of me (for talking proper) and was just amazed and asked to touch it and everything. Now I am natural only natural people compliment me and we have our hair talks and all my friends say I miss your old hair. And I Don't Care I Love My Hair

  • LOL "Oooooh ma gosh"

  • I'm 15 and have hair down to my back; and I'm dark skinned, and I have since I was younger always had people touch my hair and ask if it was real! But I think that happens, simply for the fact that I am dark skinned, and people with dark skin aren't usually seen as having long, healthy hair, so I was always a freakshow.

And I get more questions from people who don't look like me; people who do look like me seem to always have some hostility towards me and other who take care of their hair!

    Y

  • @1dramadancer people who have hostility towards you are mad because you don't fit their image of what a dark-skinned black girl's hair looks like.

  • YEP.I have noticed that people who dont look like me are more friendly toward me when I wear my hair straight. At school and work I get the,"OH MY GOD, I LOVE YOUR HAIR, IT LOOKS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOD" responses and the compliments just keep raining down. When I wear my hair in it's natural kinky state, I can hear a pin drop in the room. I have also noticed that strangers (who dont look like me) approach me more often when my hair is straight. As for black ppl, they usually don't care either way.

  • As for black people who don't compliment your hair, its only because they are jealous. But your hair is beautiful

  • Yes, Oh My Goodness, I Hate That, I Have Really Tight Curls, And Like You said In The Video, They Are Just Amazed &- Ask Me If I Have Weave And All That, Like I Was Offended To The Fact That Why Would You Even Ask Somebody That, Even If They Did,? Smh.

  • I guess it's just people's style..I prefer the large curls on you..and I'm black..Idk straight hair is all good but I don't love it..

  • I guess I'm not alone..

  • btw it's on both sides.

  • Welcome to the world of "quiet" racism

  • honestly i think your hair looks "prettier" to me when it's a little more wavy rather than bone straight....it just looks fuller and more vibrant:)!~

  • This same thing happen to me and I'm black an the people who don't look like me would be like r u mixed i'd say no (I all way wear my hair in a protective style)

  • I'm australian, and I luuurve your hair in this video, how it is!

But I know what you mean how people think it looks 'better, prettier, or more glamourous' just because hair is straight. My mum and sister are both blonde (they dye it regularly) and they don't understand why I choose NOT to straighten my hair, or why I want to keep it it's natural colour.

And I am guilty of commenting on hair that is curly like yours, because I just can't gain it so I find it more appealing!

  • I beg to differ...when im at skool and I had just gotten my hair straight ppl my race compliment me all the time

  • I love ur hair just be you sweetie .Don't worry what people say.

  • Yes, especially when I was in high school last year,I would always wear my hair curly in a bun, my teacher even asked me if I got extensions when i wore my hair straight

  • Tried to add u 2 my twitter its locked or something. I love ur hair journey story i'm not patient enough to follow though lol!!

  • Yep. I remember one time I wore a very natural looking straight wig, and a white lady told me that my "natural hair looks prettier" than my previous style. When she said natural, she was referring to the wig that she thought was my hair. But I have had a lot of white ppl oohing and aahing over my naturally kinky hair. I think in your situation, it's not a surprise cuz you don't wear your hair down everyday, so it's like a treat. If you did, then ppl would get use to it and don't say anything.

  • yea i deff get more attention when i just get a fresh perm. i believe it shouldnt be like that because all textures of hair are beautiful. but i guess the world doesnt work like that

  • Totally understandable..... its like african american women girls whom ever can NOT have long beautiful hair with or without ano chemical process. Its like we all have kinky short hair which is beautiful as well! Since The time i was younger i always was asked if im mixed with something because Of My hair And deep features, And i used to say no im just black with hair i take Care Of. Its just ignorance thats all

  • i really cant relate... ppl treat me the same no matter f i wore a hat on my head with a nappy ponytail or f i have it all press out....but idk i guess it depends on who u around

  • I get what you mean. It's like black hair is an anomally to other races so when it looks more like theirs or more "acceptable" they say it looks great.

  • Who really cares??

  • yea i get the same thing i got long hair like ur but i color mine and i use to have a relaxer long time ago yea i get attention from ppl and they look at me like hmm is it her or fake or why its that color and my hair is extra thick like Diana Ross thick but when its Straight they still ask if im relax color and relaxer don't mix good with my hair

  • i dont know about more friendly after being seen with straight hair but i know what you mean. i go to a pwi and they love my hair curly. i wore it straight one day and they were like "why is it straight?? go back curly! i miss it"

  • For me it's the opposite. I usually wear my hair straight and when I wear a twist-out or bantu-knot out and my hair is big and curly, I get more compliments and people who aren't black seem to be more amazed and interested in talking to me because my hair stands out more. The only thing I don't like is when people who aren't black want to touch my hair to feel it like it's some rare material...

  • i like to were wigs and it dose seem like people talk to you more when you have a nice weave or a fresh relaxer, but at the same time at school or work people seem like they professionally take me more seriously when my hair is up.

  • u know...i agree w/ sorry4ya28 about the reason u r more accepted amongst the "non look alikes" lol...but as for us black folk lol the reason they proly dont say much about ur hair is because they are a bit jealous that theirs isn't as long or healthy as yours. they might not say it, but i can almost guarantee that they are just a bit jelly-belly. its all good, either way u must be doing somethn right.... =)

  • Omg that is my exact situation my hair is naturally curly and when I wear it that way people don't really say much to me...but when I get it pressed out I get sooo much attention from people...It's so sad how alll of this revolves around the brain washed idea of what beauty it. Black n not black people believe that if your hair Is straight that is what beautiful hair is.. That's what I believe, but of course not all but most.

  • The same thing happens to me! smh and im full apl

  • yesssss! i understand completely, Im natural and when i straighten my hair blacks are like "are you indian? and whites always think its so pretty.

  • I stopped getting relaxers last year and have been wearing my hair out curly with some gel or just in braid outs and I don't get compliments from non-black people except when my hair is straightened. Black women ask me questions about my hair and seem to generally like it, while the black men I've dated seem to like it. But I wear my hair in different styles also...

  • 0mg me too!!

  • yup, i always get comments when my hair is straight lol. i'm a black girl and my hair is long like yours and it's highlighted and layered and i always get comments when my hair is done. i NEVER wear my hair natural (never have) so i don't know how people would react if my hair was kinky. i personally like straight hair because it's easier to manage lol. i used to work with white people and always was told that my hair looks nice. i don't think hair should define anyone. people can sport whateve

  • Totally. It's not even racially divided with me. To be more specific, I wear my hair natural generally and I'm practically invisible, or a sore sight, to black people when my hair is that way. They like it much more when my hair is straight. White people like the texture but I think they see it as a sort of curiosity. Men really only pay attention to me if my hair is straight or in braids. The hypocrisy makes me a bit sick.

  • Well, I am totally natural and my hair is different every week. i go from fro, to mini twists to braidouts, so I get different reactions on a daily. and I've learned to get over it. Its cool to me how many things I can do. White people don't always get it, but it no longer bothers me. I only flat iron annually, so people were shocked at how long it was though,

  • Your just such a beautiful lady!

  • @ktf111111 well said :-)

  • meg, im black and i love your hair anyway u wear it! and if i were to see u id tell u that lol

  • Where do you work?

  • What type of conversation are you having with the black women who you work with about hair? If you don't talk about hair in general, or maybe their hair in particular, why would they comment if your hair is straight? The white people are so clueless sometimes about our hair, so who knows.?

  • I can relate to that.....let me start by sayin I've had thick long relaxed hair my whole life & family & friends hated on me. When I went natural black family friends & co workers didn't necessarily like it but they felt like I wasn't no longer a threat & they culd compete. I chuckled on the inside now I'm 2 years natural & when I got my hair pofessionally flat iron black family & friends didn't compliment r say omg nothing cuz its back long & they were shocked during the holidays jealous.

  • i love your smile.. soo beautiful ;)

  • Yeap! I have naturally curly hair but started waiting natural about 2 years ago and I get the same FREAKIN' reaction. I hate it! Some co-workers have said that I am being lazy when I don't blow dry it n flat iron it. When I do twist, bantu knots, braid outs or wear it curly I don't get ANY comments; in fact, someone place a blow dryer on the ladies room after I started wearing my hair other than straight.

  • hair is not the determinate for me when it comes to ppl being friendly to me. i get the same treatment from people whether my hair is in a straight weave or natural nap. when i've worn an afro the ppl who looked like me would laugh. Except African people from Africa were nice to me. i guess cuz they are au naturale out there. ive never worn my natural hair around ppl who dont look like me. but i remember one time i did ppl still stared at me in awe i guess....-_-

  • In general i think most men (black or white) likes women (black or white) with long straight hair.

  • I am white, and i live in a country where there arent many black people, but i think your hair looks better wavy or curly. I've watched a lot of youtube beauty videos, and before i didnt even know that hair is so important for black people and this is really big thing for you. So i think white people dont see your hair as you see it, everyone wants to be different (white people want tan skin,etc..) and i think its sad that people dont accept their looks, your hair is really nice naturally!

  • When i worked at a gas station, i noticed ppl were more friendly to me when i had china bangs...they were my usual customers that have NEVER speak to me. then suddnely they had so much to say and they loved my "new look". I'm black but I had long and wavy hair back then so everyone assumed i was a black hispanic or something lol...either way i feel u on this subject cuz blk girls do me the same way

  • yes ! when i wear my hair in a pretty way and i look good ! i get a lot of compliments ! and just random guys in street and school start talking to me and they will be like you hair is so pretty and what's really rando ! one time i took a taxi cap to school ! and the taxi driver was like 40 and he was like omg you're soo gorgeous ! your boyfriend is soo lucky and he said "i wich i could kidnap you !" O.o ! and i was like omfg he terified me !

  • I have been natural for years and never straightened my hair - so can't answer that - people just like me at work I guess :) One time, I wore my BSL hair in a braidout and because it was not common, I got compliments. I think if one undergoes a dramatic change (i.e. curly to straight hair, hair down out of bun), people naturally get curious. I had the same reaction to a white lady who took her butt length hair down from her typical bun.

  • I agree, when your hair is straight.your one of them if you like..you fit their standard because their hair is straight...and so they will be more accepting to you then say a black lady with dread locks..they see straight is pretty and they more like it when you conform to their ways..hell it makes your life easier but continue to be who you are.,straight or frizzy who cares? ..white people are the majority where I work and yes they are much more frindly when I wear my hair out, straigh.

  • I LOVE YOUR HAIR ! tutorial please(: ?

  • @ulovemegz people are more friendly when I get my hair braided, but when I have my hair in a ponytail. I don't get that much convo from people

  • well when im at work/or public places i can feel the awkward stares from the people who are like me and the people who aren't like me are opened to talk to me. almost as if they feel like im more like them so its easier for them to relate to me.........

  • And.........

I hate when people , "who don't look like us" ask "OMG IS THAT YOUR REAL HAIR?"

I respond to that by saying, "OMG IS THAT YOUR REAL HAIR?" back to them.. haha

  • I completely understand.. I went to work with my hair blown-out because I had a appt right after and everyone looked at me like I was crazy.. Like there is only one way your hair should be..

  • I don't understand... ARE you going natural? I use to follow you last yr and i was encouraged to relax my hair again as i felt i was doing something wrong as to why my hair was breaking. But to cut a long story short, after 8 yrs of being natural i relaxed my hair again as i looked up to you, to find that the problem was the relaxer not me, so now i embrace being natural again as i big chopped 2 days ago. So i ask what do you mean as relaxed hair is straight. Are you growing out your relaxer!?

  • i feel the same way! Some people jus hate and are jealouse! I dont pay it any mind!

  • Yesss i was literally just saying this to myself the other day, i usually wear my hair up/curly but for the new year, going back to school i went to the salon and got my hair straightened and everyone decided to notice me more and try to converse.

  • well, I'm not black. Im Asian/Caucasian (mixed) and I have naturally really straight hair, strangers often ask me what I use to straighten it (i don't even own a straightening iron). Long story short: I seem to get way more attention when I curl my hair, I know what you're talking about. I dont know why. It's weird :\

  • Yes, this happens all the time. And I get this from people i've worked with for over 3 years. It's like brand new every single time lol.

  • @ulovemegz - Yes definitely. I usually wear my hair in a protective style and if they haven't seen my hair down in 30 wks (2 relaxers later) and it's straight, the tend to look dead at my scalp like they are looking for something! And by "they" you know who I mean! LOL! This reminds me of that youtube video called "Shit white girls say to black girls". If you saw that you'd definitely relate to how they treat us and our hair. Ignore the video's comments though - they are beyond ignorant! :-S

  • i have experienced that. your hair is so pretty!

  • I actually get the opposite as weird as it sounds when my hair is straight I get compliments from other black people especially my family members and they love to ask that question "Omg,Is that a weave?" and being that they know i rarely wear weave and when i do its shorts its kinda strange. On the other hand when i lived in a dorm all the other people would love to ask me to touch my hair after I washed it and it was all curly lol. So I Guess it just depends.

  • I agree with you. I also get the same kind of response whenever I wear my hair straight. Also, my hair can grow rather quickly, so whenever I've gotten it cut, people always seem to have a negative opinion to share with me even if I haven't asked for it. It's like they almost expect me to keep it a certain length. It's annoying though!

  • I LOVE your hair like this! :D

  • I KNow Exactly What U Mean

  • I get where your coming from! There really are some people who do hate because another women has real , long , healthy hair! I get that all the time that my hair is pretty & is it real? & What do I use on it & Don't get me wrong, I dont mind telling them! But some act a little jealous & im not a conceited person at all this is just from experience also. But it's a shame that SOME women that are the same race as me act as if they have a problem with my hair.

  • hi megs, i white ( north-african) and i mabye understand why they only come up to you about your hair well where i live everbody how is seeing a black girl know th\t sh*t on here head aint real but some of them have naturaly long hair but can't see that so i think she is not used to meet a black girl with naturaly long hair i guess, me i do have nautarly hair but many girls or people don't believe i have curly hair they think i curly hair.

  • I know the feeling! I am natural & most of the time at work I wear my hair up in a high pony with waves & curls. For the past week, I've been wearing my hair down straight & everyone's saying how pretty I look & stuff like that. And yes, I do feel like they are being friendlier! I'm a high school teacher so I get it from my students too! I've also been told that I have more "sass" with the straight hair...funny!

  • Omg Meg this other guru on YouTube tales about the same thing and she said the same thing as you

  • Oh I know juuuuuuust what you're talking about...and it's sad because what has ended up happening is that I just wear my hair in a bun every day. The ONLY time I will wear my hair straight is when I am with my husband so the jealous haters will see I already got a man, I ain't trying to take theirs....it's a shame...I mean, can we live??? I"m glad I'm not the only one who experiences this

  • hey girl! i know this video is ab your hair! i love it both ways, but ur teeth look great i can tell the difference already! I'm a dental hygienist so i love teeth! lol

  • I got my natural hair straightened for the first time on Nov. 25, since 2006, and people were definitely friendlier. That was the first thing i noticed when i walked out of the salon and stopped at the store. It was so weird. But this was from both black and white. But I definitely got that reaction. Now 1 person who's black that always complemented my natural styles said nothing to me or about it for days. then I got an "oh, ur hair's nice." lol

  • how did you do your hair megz??

  • The more "white" your hair looks, the more "friendly" or acceptable you look to whites. And they are probably amazed that's it's long (because of the stigma that blk hair doesn't grow) I don't think they mean any harm. Just the way society is theses days.

  • @sorry4ya28 so true!

  • @sorry4ya28 Whites even compliment naturals who have long hair. So I don't really think it is about texture. It is more about length. If you have long thick curly hair they even compliment that and ask if it is all real. But at the end of the day hair is just hair. Whether long, short, relaxed, natural, curly or straight; it has to be cared for and look groomed. People need to stop tripping because it's not that serious. God Bless.

  • Maybe its just me but i don't really comment on hair styles of woman unless its something i haven't seen or rarely see. Maybe the white people are just pleasantly surprised at your straight hair and comment. But i have seen straight curly long short red pink hair it doesn't shock me and i guess like i don't see the point in going up to people all the time praising them for there new hair style. Now maybe if i wanted that praise i would be going around saying it so i could receive it.

  • I know exactly what you're saying!!! They probably like your straight look because your hair is sooooo long. In my case, I get many compliments on the curly look, like spiral curls and the slicked back pony tail.

  • I experience the same thing. I get more compliments when I wear long hair extensions and they are straighten. It actually irritates me because I feel like people only pay attention to you base on the way you look. I tend to get more attention when I wear makeup also.

  • yep

  • make up tutorial please!!!!

  • @ulovemegz your hair looks relaxed all the time .. its not even nappy at the roots. what do you do to keep it that way or is it relaxed in your other videos?

  • Great video Megz..I believe all women can relate to this. Its just the fact of another woman getting more attention than her because she's getting the most attention at that point in time. Therefore, those women who LOVE TO HATE feel even more inferior to you, in which hair should not be a factor at all. Its a shame but the dirty truth.

  • My hair is shoulder length when straight. Men who don't know me check me out when I have the braid out. Male relatives have stated that they prefer my hair long and straight. Women who look like me say they like it. Women who don't look like me are amazed by my hair either way. Everyone who doesn't know me assumes my hair is relaxed or woven in...it's not and probably won't be. I've learned to enjoy the attention either way. I love my hair.

  • I can relate to this. I dont get mch compliments wheen I wear braidouts, but when I wear my hair straight, or I get a fresh relaxer I mainly get compliments from Caucasians than Blacks. Even when I am at work I get more compliments from my bosses and other coworkers when it is straight...but such is life :)

  • ha ha ha. lmao. true story!

  • Girl I get it too! I'm mixed and my hair is really long down my bak and white ppl day stuff like omg ur hair is long... And so pretty but when it's nappy and curly they don't say anything. Also black females really don't complement each other often. Never do I get a compliment from my friends

  • Thts crazy yes white people like us more when we look more like them. straight hair, weave, highlights etc...

  • I think other races give me more hair attention when my hair is "different" not straight. I wear my hair straight most of the time but when I wore it curly others were so 'hair nice'. I think its more of the fact that they are shocked that our hair is so versatile. I don't think black women are jealous. I just think they already know our hair can grow long and we can wear it in different textures so they aren't going to give extra attention.

  • WOMEN ARE ALL HATERS BLACK, WHITE, SPANISH. MOST WOMEN JUST DONT LIKE EACH OTHER. you get more compliments when your hair is straight especially from men. Men love long straight hair, however women are just haters and will give u a nasty attitude.

  • I cut all of my permed hair off it a few inches shorter than of yours the the time of my bc. I feel like ppl get the impression that I'm younger than my age with permed hair and n ow that I'm natural ( & I have been natural b4 but I permed it ) I feel that ppl treated me older. Hair is funny the effects it has on ppl and the responds we get . No matter take all to the good. They re just curious.. :)

  • When i wear braids non-black women LOVE my hair, i've known these girls since 2nd grade yet every year we have the same "so is that your real hair" conversation...

  • Non-black women are sensitive about weight like black women are sensitive about their hair. It may be because your hair is versitile. I have not worn my hair straight for over 10 months. I wear my twist outs, afros, twists and get compliments from everyone. The people at my job love my afro more than anything. I get the stink eye from women whose hair has no versatility.

  • when I was natural and my hair was curly white ppl talked to me more. when I went back to a relaxer so called "friends" had before I was natural all of a sudden wanted to talk to me again. So idk if it's a race thing because I had the total opposite experience

  • A few have mentioned it, and I agree. I think it's mostly the change. They may be surprised about the versatility, plus long hair on us isn't common and straight hair shows length better. My hair is up 90% of the time, when I wear it down or out in a fro, I get the compliments and such. You said pin straight and down isn't a common look for you. If it were, and you suddenly wore a braid out, you may see a reversal. The only negativity with my hair was from people who "looked like me". ^__^

  • @rosereddoll ITA. I haven't noticed people being friendlier based on my hair. I wear my hair straight 95% of the time and one time I set it on rods and it caused quite a bit of attention. My male boss commented on my new 'hair do' which he hasn't done in 4 years. It was because it was different. I've said it once and I'll say it again...non-blacks really don't know or care what's going on with our hair...all they know is 'it's differen't. Black people are each others worse critic.

  • I haven't wore my hair straight since August and I would just air dry and put it in a bun. The first time I did a braidout but then I was like "I don't want to deal with this" I put it in a bun and all my "black friends" were like "Oh is your hair naturally like that? It's cute!" and then at the end of Nov. I relaxed and straighten my hair for the first time in about 1year and a half and all my non black friends were like "DAMN. You're hair looks good! "

  • I think when our hair is straight,we put them(white people)more at ease! We(black people)remind them more of themselves when our hair is straight! As far as standoffish black people that is simply envy and a little(or a lot)of jealousy!

  • @CarrotCakeMomma, you and I are in the same boat. My hair is bunned 90% of the time so when it's down and straight (especially since it's long) I get complimented by white men mostly. Yeah to the 30+ club. LOL

  • When I was into micro-braids and twist I got compliments from whites and blacks. Now I wear my hair straight and still the same positive reaction overall. I wear sew ins with virgin Malaysian hair. Most people think it's my hair and if your interested in virgin hair, hit me up :)

  • Yes. I manage 20-25 ppl, mostly white. I wear my hair in a bun 90% of time. When I get a relaxer, I wear it down for that week, and YES they seem to be more COMFORTABLE with my hair being straight. Let me just say I'm 38 and somethings never changed:-)

  • Those are called haters! I rock a fro proudly but I notice when I wear long wave or any type of weave I get more compliments and attention. But I don't care when I had my quick weave this girl (not black) was like "omg how did you do your invisible part!" lol I was like what wait did she just ask me that all loud! lol but I was koo I just tried to explain how I did it.

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS..i recently just straighted my hair and i feel the same way..its cray

  • I always have my hair in box braids for a protective style and when I took it out everyone who is of other races loved it at work. They even told me not to put the braids back in.

  • similar experience here

  • Weird.. I usually have more positive comment on my hair when they are curly.. and from both blacks and non black people. I have more positive comment from black people about my hair when they're straight..

  • I get the same thing I actually had a coworker run his fingers through my hair to check for tracks...he was LIKE ME..i just thought wow to myself last week you didnt know my curls but because im silky now you wanna know me and be nosey really to see if its all mine...Yes black girls can have long hair without weave..geez !!!

  • your hair is gorgeoussssssssssssssssssssssss!

did you do a braid out? is this look possible with extensions? :(

  • Im a black girl && i have natural hair so I do the twist outs && everybody who comes into my job is white && a lot of them always compliments my hair.. with me its vise versa
