No, they all do need to have a University Degree and usually about 2 years of Law Enforcement Experience, usually from the Police or Military Police, some do come from the Army, but the post is usually always given to US Army Officers, but they all have to redo US Secret Service Training, once the pass the interview all past qualifications are forgotten, you start from zero. But you are right they are the best because of that!

the secret service was not created by president lincolin. it was created fight counterfiting and protect american financial transactions..it was only integreted into the us department of homeland security recently....

Also, the Secret Service was created under the Dept of Treasury for the purpose of the prevention and investigation of counterfeiting of U.S. currency and treasury bonds and not to protect govt officials. A role they still assume at this time. They did not assume full time responsibility of protecting the President until the early 1900s.

As of 2003 - they got integrated to the Dept. of Homeland Security. Other agencies of DHS also train for 'Presidential Details' in case they're needed.

correction, the secret service was formed by president lincoln one day before his assassination. but i guess you could technically label it as part of the dpt of treasury. the rest about the counterfeiting and not protecting until the early 1900's is correct. the presidents before hand were protected by the union army.

Special Agents of the Secret Service wear attire that is appropriate for the surroundings mostly civilian functions of a civilian President elected in a democratic society by civilians. Hence, the business attire you see most time. The uniformed divisions hides behind the scene until needed if necessary.
