i really adore these monuments...i feel sad coz Greece had so many like them, even the original pantheon thousands years ago that was destroyed as many others during wars...pantheon was a monument to honor the whole of the gods (=pan theon)..stop saying that this one looks old...it's amazing and we should try to preserve pretty old monuments like this..i really wanna visit Roma!!!
Ahhh, this video will be an excelent help with my minecraft save where i'm building a pantheon as well. It is a difficult task, but with the help of other people who did the same thing, pictures, hand made models and this video i think it will work out just fine.
i'm trying to build this for a latin project, and it has taken me hours to build. It is extermely difficult to build with clay, and I can't begin to imagine how difficult it was to build the real thing. It's a little bit sad that tourists just walk in, look at the dome, and walk out. I don't think all of them appreciate how hard it was to build. Heck, they just go there cause it's in their damn guide book.
i wish i could have watched the romans building the pantheon. looks amazing. i feel bad for the citizens in rome, i wondered if it was crowded with a bunch of gawking tourests in the roman empire's time.
isn't this big hall useles, i mean what's the purpose of such a huge structure people are just roaming about and why is there a hole in the roof doesn't rain ruin the floors? in America we prefer not to have such holes in our roof
@bestozesto Do not speak about something you have NO knowledge of. Research it and find out why there is a hole. And the Pantheon is a tomb. Don't be an idiot.
@mmedefarge As I was in Rome last fall, walking on the first floor of castel sant' angelo, an american grown man came by, looking at the big round thingything which i don't know the name for in english, saying: 'Is this the pantheon?'.
I saw this about ten years ago with my family when I was 20 or 21. One of the things that struck me about the pantheon was the variety of color used on the interior. So much of ancient Rome tends to be portrayed through media in stark monotone, usually the white marble of statues and columns. I think we would be rather shocked if we went back and saw how colorful the architecture and landscape of ancient Rome was, and not in a bad way.
@OctavioJames300 The interior isn't very ancient, well if you mean from the Roman age. It was rebuild as a church during the renaissance if i'm right. Only the floor is restorated in the roman way.
The ceiling was covered with bronze, so the light was reflected, but the Vatican stole it for the St. Peters church...
I think one of the things that shocks modern people when encountering magnificent works of pre-modern art and architecture like the Pantheon is the precision of so much of the work. That such precision was possible long before the advent of modern computers and machinery. That the precision and detail is better than people have seen on modern structures. And I think that, in itself, is awe inspiring.
@robasci00 You're absolutely right, though it'll take another 114 years before it's 2000 years old. True, the original was built in the year 27 BC, but it got consumed by fire in the year 80 AD and was rebuilt by Hadrian in 125 AD, which is the building you see now.
I don't mean no disrespect. ;) It's still amazing how it still stands after *almost* 2000 years. ^^
yup, everything is besides the renovations they did with the chrisitian stuff, good thing it was converted into that or else it probly would have been torn down
We could build quality structures like this if we wanted to but its just really impressive and awe-inspiring that the Romans had the ability and knowledge so long ago.
How the fuck the Romans built this some 2000 years ago what no cranes or machinery, just raw manpower, I'll never know. They would struggle to build something this quality today. If you wanted to build a place like this all you would have to do really is study it. But they had nothing to base it on 2000 years ago when it was built. No precedent.
Those bronze doors are mind-blowing. Im Australian-Italian and was in Rome last November. Holy fuck, just amazing.
dont short change humanity friend..just because there were no computers and advanced construction equipment..doesnt mean we couldnt do these amazing things..(aqueducts blow my mind...the ability to make a gradient from kilometres away with just plum lines and brain power is testament to our genius...this is YOUR heritage....be proud of it and know that you are capable of greatness.
Lol, if one can see ancient Rome like it was, huge palaces, baths and art one will be stunned. What remains now is only less than shadow it was before. Rome was a light!
As an American, it is embarrassing when travelling anywhere else to see just how stupid Americans can be. How can you travel to all these places and not bother to read some history first? Their comments are often so incredibly stupid and demeaning to other people. No wonder the rest of the world hates us!
@NJRocks281 Ah, my little idiot, the essence of being American is having the freedom to speak our minds. We have become much too arrogant. Introspection & self-criticism is necessary lest the jingoists turn this nation into a fascist state.
@mmedefarge You are right but then again what's the harm in just visiting because you feel like...? Maybe they learn a lot by travelling there instead of reading books... You know we Americans don't like reading books, we only read when we have to..like for passing tests and stuff..
@kaziabir1 They're just a bunch of old buildings if you don't know what you are looking at. Besides, you'll enjoy the trip there far more if you know what those things are & won't appear like a dolt to the locals.
@mmedefarge i partly agree with that, although your statement is riddled with hypocrisy. Some people find different things interesting, I for one cannot understand how people don't find history, especially classical antiquity, fascinating. But then again a fashion designer may say the same thing about the latest fashion trends or something like that. America was forged in xenophobia, and even though she is omnipresent in the modern world, she still retains such xenophobia.
@RammsteinGunner The U.S. is the most polyglot nation in the world, so to claim that it was "forged in xenophobia" makes absolutely no sense. Europeans who've come here to stay & become citizens (including my parents & their friends) have told me that the U.S. is the easiest place to live & be accepted. Europeans all have a long history with each other, not all of it very good & it's difficult from someone from one country to fit into the culture of another there.
@RammsteinGunner Why visit a site if you have absolutely no interest in it? It becomes just a meaningless pile of stone (unless you're there strictly to check out the architecture). but the man I was commenting on in my original statement, wandered into the Castel Sant' Angelo although he was looking for the Pantheon, two very different looking buildings with different functions. There's nothing "riddled with hypocrisy" in my statements.
@mmedefarge That is not why the rest of the world hates us. Let me ask you a question since you are such an intellectual. What people have been hated the most and the longest in world history? I mean, hate and dislike to a level where more than 90 nations and empires, in the past 2500 years, took action against these people? Can you answer that question??
@shasha1873 It's one of the reasons that the world hates us (digging our meat-hooks into every country that allows us to is another. We've got military bases just about everywhere.) You apparently believe than anyone who thinks at all is an "intellectual". I'm not sure who the most hated people in history are but the Jews spring to mind first, since Christianity became a force to reckon with. (Yes I realize that Christianity has not been around quite that long.)
@mmedefarge I was right. You are very smart. Yes, we have come so low at this time where if you can think you are called an intellectual! It is very sad.
@StarsMarsRadio I'm embarrased when abroad by the sheer amount of arrogant, dumb-ass Americans who wouldn't know their ass from a hole in the ground if you gave them a map.

You are offending my people: I'm from Rome! Mafia has nothing to do wioth Rome and, anyhow, didn't exterminate Indians, put in slavery blacks, didn't bomb with nukes anyone...first to insult people around the world investigate what your country did...you stupid!
