the srt-4 did good considering the terminator is pushing 390HP stock. throw on a cai, 70mm throttle body, long tube headers, under pullys, and an exhaust and you could be pushing 460HP. personally if i had the 03 cobra i would keep it stock only drive it on nice days and keep the miles low and in 10-20 years it will be worth a fortune. most famouse cobra ever

@gadberry2009 Heres's a math lesson for you. Power to weight wins everytime. Most upgraded turbo srt-4's lay down 400-430 whp at 18-19 psi. The curb weight for a 03-05 neon is 2970 lbs. thats 6.9 lbs/hp. A 2003 cobra with a turbo at the same 18-19 psi will make 700-730 whp. The curb weight for an 03 cobra is 3664 for a coupe and 3907 for a vert. thats 5.0 lbs/hp for the coupe and 5.35 lbs/hp for the vert. The smaller the lbs/hp number the less weight per hp the car has.
These are all pump gas figures.The less weight per hp the car has the faster it will go. And we havent even factored in the fact that the neon is a front wheel drive car and has to make even more power to overcome the deficit the traction loss causes. I dont care how you slice it. you can not launch a front wheel drive car the same as a rear wheel drive car. It wont happen. Do 4 cylinder cars have their place, Yes. Are some of them fast, Yes. Those 03 Cobra transmissions are hard to shift. My stepson has one and it is really notchy. My Tremec trans in my 92 5.0 was the same way. The old T-5 that came in the Fox body cars was the smoothest but way to weak, especially 3rd gear.
That was my old 03 cobra, made right about 470rwhp, had a 2.8 pulley, intake, prochamber, and mac catback. The race was near the airport in Bakersfield Ca. that srt isnt slow. he just put a new turbo on and hadn't fully tuned it yet. fun times

Cobra had maybe 450 rwhp...exhaust, intake. You can put 1500 into a cobra and make over 500 rwhp(they make 400 stock). All you need is a pulley and the exhaust/intake. An SRT4 needs at least 6k to make/keep up with that....Cobra>SRT4
Used 50 trim kit 950 bolt ons 500, add that up for me tell me what you get!. and it will put you 420+ at the front wheels. Anything else? You non buyer of used parts dude!!!!
@SpenserHarris Well you are right I will never buy a used part for any car that I own. But you mean to tell me 4 injectors, a fuel pump, and some kind of engine management is only going to cost 500? That is the least amount of mods I can think of to run the kind of HP and not even safely. Then you are going to need a logger or wideband or something to tune with unless you get it profesionaly tuned. I suppose it could be done if you found all of the right parts at a steal on ebay.
Opening description should read "lightly modded 03 Cobra". This is not a shot at the srt-4 guys. Those are great cars, but the 03-04 Cobras when "heavily" modified make 600+ at the wheels. This one is not on that level.

@Adrenaline96 this is true in many cases, but with front wheel drive, most of the transverse engine mounts and transmissions just give up at more that 500 hp ish... granted that is a lot, but if you want to pass that threshold then youll have to rebuild the front end on most front wheel drive cars.. and thats my only hard evidence for disliking front wheel drive.... other than that, i just really hate how fwd handles... fwd cars just arent my scene no disrespect.... mustangs are my life haha

I really really like driving the SRT4 daily, but the fwd. is stupid....lol Miss my fox, should have never sold it. Some day I'll get another to build again and the srt4 will still prob. be my daily driver....runs high 13's and gets 25-26mpg and I can drive it through a snow storm no issues. It'll never be as fun though

Only one to come straight from the factory with them is 96-98 cobra's. Like he said it was only an option for 99/01 and 03/04 which apparently alot of people didn't care about cuz I've never seen one with a snake that was factory. Btw it's a fucking emblem you think it can't be swapped out? Like it's welded in there or something?

@gibsonlespaul2 Actually the cobra emblem in the grille is a production order option approximately 80 percent of all cobras made were orderedwith them and the rest have the mustang symbol as it is the standard emblem

@gibsonlespaul2 its a real cobra. It has the cobra hood, cobra rims, rear bumper, nd emblem on the side. Not all cobras have the cobra emblem on the grill though. Just most of em do

Cobra had maybe 450 rwhp...exhaust, intake. You can put 1500 into a cobra and make over 500 rwhp(they make 400 stock). All you need is a pulley and the exhaust/intake. An SRT4 needs at least 6k to make/keep up with that....Cobra>SRT4

Used 50 trim kit 950 bolt ons 500, add that up for me tell me what you get!. and it will put you 420+ at the front wheels. Anything else? You non buyer of used parts dude!!!!

@SpenserHarris Well you are right I will never buy a used part for any car that I own. But you mean to tell me 4 injectors, a fuel pump, and some kind of engine management is only going to cost 500? That is the least amount of mods I can think of to run the kind of HP and not even safely. Then you are going to need a logger or wideband or something to tune with unless you get it profesionaly tuned. I suppose it could be done if you found all of the right parts at a steal on ebay.

Opening description should read "lightly modded 03 Cobra". This is not a shot at the srt-4 guys. Those are great cars, but the 03-04 Cobras when "heavily" modified make 600+ at the wheels. This one is not on that level.

ahh yes, two of my favorite cars! and to the dumbass that said the srt4 should be racing a v6 mustang: you obviously don't have any experience with srt4s, stock they are about as quick as the gt. Mine is lightly modified and i pull from gt's. I'm assuming this is on a stage 3 turbo so
any v6 mustang would get destroyed.

AWD is hard to keep up with but it's all about your set-up. i know front wheel guys that toast rear wheel guys and vice versa. It's not stupid, just different ya know? Racing is about making the best out of what you got.

@Adrenaline96 this is true in many cases, but with front wheel drive, most of the transverse engine mounts and transmissions just give up at more that 500 hp ish... granted that is a lot, but if you want to pass that threshold then youll have to rebuild the front end on most front wheel drive cars.. and thats my only hard evidence for disliking front wheel drive.... other than that, i just really hate how fwd handles... fwd cars just arent my scene no disrespect.... mustangs are my life haha

@WannaBFoxRacer very true....I currently have an 05 SRT4 as my driver. Needed something fwd for winters where I live as a driver. I've built a Fox body mustang in the past. I really really like driving the SRT4 daily, but the fwd. is stupid....lol Miss my fox, should have never sold it. Some day I'll get another to build again and the srt4 will still prob. be my daily driver....runs high 13's and gets 25-26mpg and I can drive it through a snow storm no issues. It'll never be as fun though
