does anyone know.. if you can mix with the faders while the program is running. will the faders on the pc move also?? like a controller. and if it does how do you do that. fire wire?
So question. would this work. Record say 16 inputs at the same time into pro tools, no EQ. return them back on the corresponding channels as returns. do the mixing post tape. then record that back into pro tools, with the mix youve done.
Yeah yeah ProTools compliant. Yay for the rich kids. For the rest of us: While testing various softwares, I've miked my band up and used my 1640i to track 16 tracks of live audio into Audition3, Audacity, and Reaper. Setup and results: NO PROBLEMS. Get this-- all this was done on a Dell i3-based laptop.
No I don't work for Mackie! I just love this board. Live FOH... stage mon/FX sends... and 16-track pre-everything digital recording outs-- ALL FROM THE SAME BOARD. Sweetness.
there's a few things they should change.. track 1 and 2 have a built in DI for guitar (awesome), except that channel 1 and 2 are the "default" for playback.. so you have to reroute your playback into 15/16 for example when you're using an acoustic guitar, while listening to playback from the computer..
other than a few silly things like that.. such an amazing mixer.
I`m seriously considering buying the 1620i model, and since you mentioned the "rerouting playback issue" , i wanna know if the rerouting is done via the integrated software of the mixer or if it is a cable wise rerouting for playback and playing simultaneously. Also, would it be possible to reroute the playback to the line in 9/10 ? that is so i can use all of the 8 mic inputs.
@tmonozy Allen Heath Zed 16 - they cost £50 more than the 1640i and are good solid british build with midi on the faders and additional midi assignable buttons asnd dials. i got the Mackie as its more compact and routable.

@torres619 No, its not a controller. The audio comes in, the audio goes out; there is no other digital signals.

You can do rerouting in the mixer, or through your DAW.. you can send anything to anything, within 16 channels..
It's suuuuch an awesome mixer.. the 1640i I mean.. haven't tried the 1620, but i think they're pretty similar..

i rekon these things are awesome. is there anything similar in the market to them, does anyone know?
