@chickenman5755 not really, Subaru owners in Sweden are among the most satisfied owners since the Subaru range isnt just STI WRC replicas, they are reliable and well equiped cars for a good price. 4wd is good to since we have snow during winter and it can also be very dull during the spring and autumn.
@fesen2 Over in here in Canada, most people buy Subaru for performance, there great rally cars :) I currently own a 2009 Volvo V50 and i'm very happy of it. When i need to put the back seats down, it's actually flat and i can fit alot more stuff into the Volvo than the Subaru. Also the gas milage is great. I can get about 700km on a single tank.

I owned an 854 T5 & an 855 GLT (N/A & Turbo) & they are great cars in their own right. Never gave me a problem. However, I've also owned 2 1997 Subaru Legacies (4dr & 5dr N/A) & they also never gave me any issues. When it comes to performance, the Subarus have the Volvos on smash, no questions asked. Volvos are made for long distance travelling & even though they can corner pretty wel & have more power, they are no match for the Subarus. When it comes to reliability, they are dead even.

The new Volvo S60 goes from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. That is not that bad I think for a "boring" car as you said.
Unfair on the Volvo they pitched a mid spec SE model hear with squidgy suspenssion, should have been a facelift model RDesign which does have stiffer suspension & a lot less role the result would have been a lot closer. The Volvo T5 engine is a good engine though, it's been in the Focus ST for several years and is the base for the RS focus 300 BHP funny how 5th gear loved both of these cars. Unfair biased report just glad she's out of a job now never did like her presenting.

its not even a contest - if you are shopping for a sport saloon Legacy is really head and shoulders above anything - unless you are willing to drop the cash for an Audi RS4.
The LEGACY will win in every possible way except ergonomy.
V50 is a nice old lady's car while the SUBARU could be driven with hard step on the pedal if necessary. One of them is simple everyday car, the other has a lot of sports features in it.
Don't forget that the Legacy is actually the first SUBARU to win a race in the WRC. And it still holds the world record of high speed in petrol engines at 100000km. Volvo is far and away from there.
I wonder if there would have been much differance if they got the V50 R-Design. It does have better suspention setup and better tires. But anyways the V70R would have killed the Subaru for sure, and the Subaru is ugly.

I had a Volvo v50 but now i have a legacy...both good cars,...someway i found the volvo more like a car to rely on. But the legacy (2009) is more comfort and fun.

It is not as good to drive as a BMW, not as comfortable as a Mercedes, and doesn't have the build quality and the good looks of an Audi! Volvo can do a car that is good as a bmw but then the price will be much higher and noone would buy that kind of a Volvo beacuse Volvo is family car and not a sporty car. So it is compared to BMW and it looks crap next to it! and as a family car as u said the FOrd and Mazda build as good cars as Volvo for much less price! as i said: Volvo comes in the middle!

Volvo have improved very much the latest 10 years. It's just a question when Volvo is equal to the german cars.. In a few years I think they are. Ford sold Volvo because they had no money left, not because of Volvo. Ford was just a shitty owner who couldnt take care of all their car companys.

The new Volvo S60 goes from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. That is not that bad I think for a "boring" car as you said.

Unfair on the Volvo they pitched a mid spec SE model hear with squidgy suspenssion, should have been a facelift model RDesign which does have stiffer suspension & a lot less role the result would have been a lot closer. The Volvo T5 engine is a good engine though, it's been in the Focus ST for several years and is the base for the RS focus 300 BHP funny how 5th gear loved both of these cars. Unfair biased report just glad she's out of a job now never did like her presenting.

Wouldn't a road test be better? Since that is where 99.9% of people buying these cars will be using them.
The reason why I am disappointed is because I'm interested in both of these cars and this video hasn't helped me at all.
I'd rather know what they're like to drive in different road conditions, which equipment each one has as standard, how many MPG they do around town; basically the USEFUL information to a potential buyer like myself.
Frankly I don't care how fast they go around a track.

I'd rather see an independent review by a group of experts, which is what Fifth Gear is meant to do. I don't expect you to know this, but Fifth Gear a couple of years ago used to be very different. They used to give actual facts and useful information about cars; nowadays they try to be 'cool' like Top Gear and do useless stuff like this on a track.

The Subaru Legacy has to compare with a V70(and the Legacy Sedan with a S60). Take the old Impreza Plus against the V50 and then you'll see that the Volvo is much more better!

The LEGACY will win in every possible way except ergonomy.
V50 is a nice old lady's car while the SUBARU could be driven with hard step on the pedal if necessary. One of them is simple everyday car, the other has a lot of sports features in it.
Don't forget that the Legacy is actually the first SUBARU to win a race in the WRC. And it still holds the world record of high speed in petrol engines at 100000km. Volvo is far and away from there.

I wonder if there would have been much differance if they got the V50 R-Design. It does have better suspention setup and better tires. But anyways the V70R would have killed the Subaru for sure, and the Subaru is ugly.

Well this is great info... the next time I'm at the race track and need to know which STATION WAGON to race hot laps in, I'll make sure to grab the keys to the Subaru! But seriously, having owned a Subaru in the past everything was great until it hit the 100K mile mark, then it literally fell apart on me-part after part, problem after problem. What did I do?... Traded it in for a Volvo; so far so good. I will say that the Volvo feels much more solid than my Subaru ever did - per my experience.
