@docribby Snake is not her son, it fits the theme. Snake was taught all he knows from the Boss, the boss was like a mother to him yet the fact he had to shoot her tore him apart and SPOILERS.... In MGS4 it is revealed the eva or "big mama" was a surrogate mother for the les enfantes terribles project.

The horse and flowers are what make the scene great because they really make the cutscene more emotionional.

The flowers are also the best use of symbolism I have ever seen in any game, movie or book.
