  • A little advice to you Anka, YOU ARE REPLACEABLE TO!

  • "When I move, I slice like a fuckin' hammer!!!" What a tool...

  • WHY DO MUSICIAN'S TAKE THIS' I WOULD KNOCK HIM ON HIS ASS

  • @zoomcat818 of course you would, mr. anonymous behind a keyboard.

  • Joe went to HR....

  • where'sJoe........

  • @8484terry I think Joe is outside getting ready to whip Anka's ass! I can not believe how big this guy's head his. He's an okay singer but certainly nothing special. He write's well, but big deal, so do a lot of other people. WAY TOO BIG FOR HIS BRITCHES!

  • Where's Joe!

  • Where's Joe? Not even marginally talented and an arrogant, pipsqueak bald little fuck! I'd last about two minutes, then I'd have to rearrange his face! Nobody is as important as Jesus Christ! And certainly not this nudnik!

  • i work occasionally as a stage hand on the local crew at caesar's.sometimes when we're done we get crew shirts from the band performing on a given night.paul anka played tonight.the guys did NOT get shirts!!!

  • I didn't even know this prick was still alive.

  • Placido Domingo, Lucciano Pavarotti , Andrea Bocellii and Paul Anka are perhaps the greatest classical singers of our time. And aren't the great talents always temperamental

  • @777Whatsgoingon This is not temperment...It's abuse.

  • For those of you enjoying other's misery.......the people who are the object of this rant are some of the finest musicians of our time. Joe, who is one of the finest rock guitarists ever, finally had the last he could take shortly after this was recorded. Jon, who kisses up for his life is the finest jazz flautist I have ever known and the former musical director of a very famous singer's network T.V. show. As for the Anka show, it was the same every night. Nothing ever changed. Strange.

  • @Mendy7952 What can ANYONE POSSIBLY DO with someone who has the philosophy that "I AM THE ONLY IMPORTANT ONE ON THAT STAGE"? Yeah, right...what an utter megalomaniac a**hole!

  • @denplanet1 IF you translate that from Anka-Speak to English, it means "I AM THE ONLY ONE ON THAT STAGE I CAN'T FIRE." P.A. likes to talk big about himself. He is barely five foot 4 in heels.

  • "When I move, I slice like a fucking hammer!".

    LOL.

  • A funny rant! I could understand someone with such high standards like Paul Anka going off on his band members. After all, Paul Anka's a professional, & his band members should play like professionals as well. I think Joe purposely stayed away because he didn't want to hear another of Anka's tirades. Paul Anka's a world-class entertainer, bar none...& that's just the fucking way it is!

    Bravo, Paul Anka!

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH High standards? What kind of "high standards" are you referring too? Rhyming words with the same word at the end of two lines of a song because he couldn't come up with a better poem? Telling people he wrote "My Way" when he really only wrote he English lyric? Maybe you mean his flawless voice which sounded like he had swallowed a broken glass before each show?

    Roses are Red

    Violets are Blue

    My lyrics don't rhyme

    But neither do Paul Anka's

I wrote that as a tribute in '80.

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH High standards? You are a riot ChihuahuaboyDH! The musicians P.A. spent all his energy berating here are among the best in the business, and the shows were the most consistent anybody could ask for. What Mr. Anka IS doing here is letting off steam at captive employees because he knows he can. Is Paul Anka a talent? That is a personal taste issue and I will not go into it. I CAN tell you the issue here is NOT the level of musical perfomance from the boys.

  • Where's Joe?

  • @WalrusCandy Joe is one of the best rock guitarists of all time. By this time he had had it. He finally answered one of the bosses nasty questions truthfully a few months later and was escorted to an airplane home. If you really want to know where Joe is, he is on hundreds of rock records playing in place of the big name you thought you were listening to.

  • So......where's Joe anyway?

  • @picure I'm still trying to help Paul figure that out.

  • He's actually tame compared to some Buddy Rich outbursts.

  • Put this audio to the Hitler movie visuals that are always being shown with the comedy subtitles. I opened for this little douchebag years ago at the Arco Arena in Sacramento and nothing anybody could ever post about him would be too harsh.

  • @bumfug1 I gotta hear more about the episode at Arco Arena...

  • @styleomatic I was booked to open for Anka (as a comedian, not a singer) and I could hear all this noise from my dressing room. It was stage hands building an L shaped screen at his door because he liked to keep his door open but didn't want the peons to be able to see him when they walked by. He was just going off on them because it wasn't being done fast enough, they were making too much noise and for all I know they left a red M&M in the bowl. He made a huge deal out of...to be continued.

  • @bumfug1 - PLeeeeze tell us all the scoop on this little prick!

  • @bumfug1 this door blocker so you'd think every possible detail of the show was triple-checked to perfection. Well, his door got blocked but the important stuff wasn't so successful - when I hear the announcer say, "...please welcome Paul's special guest..." and I walk on stage, there's no frickin' lights. No stage lights, no spot light, nothing. This lasted for a good minute and a half and I'm just doing jokes in the dark. What a crappy gig.

  • @bumfug1 I must know you but I don't remember an opening act working in the dark anywhere. Perhaps it was on purpose and you weren't aware of it? You DID remember to buy the crew drinks after the show every night, didn't you? That is something you have to know to do......why don't you describe yourself and maybe I will know you.

  • @bumfug1 I would love to hear more about this episode myself...Am ashamed to share a b'day with him after this.

  • The "You're Fired" sign looks like it's from "Back to the Future Part II". Awesome. Oh, and Paul Anka is a douche.

  • Oh yea he's the only important person on the stage. Next time Paul go out and sing your songs a cappella. See how you sound!

  • @777Whatsgoingon Paul had a talent nobody else on that stage had. That was the ability to convince bookers he was worth $400k a week and then convince audiences that that croaking was great singing. Not to mention the songs. That is a talent that most musicians never have. I miss Paul. He had GUTS. I didn't care about the music, it wasn't my job to dictate taste to the guy signing the check. If you think it is, you need to quit the business.

  • many years later this was talked about with howard stern and paul anka on howard stern show. i heard it

  • @MichaelHansenFUN Is it posted anywhere? Would LOVE TO hear Anka try and explain his megalomaniac rant!

  • @denplanet1 all i remember is that it happened 13 years ago

this was during howards last time on public radio

    2002

    i think.

  • What a prick, talk that way to me and I'll slap your teeth down your throat,Better off i'll kick that shit outta your bitch ass right on stage in front of every one.Sure i'll be out a job or maybe in jail but it'll be worth it

  • THE GUYS GET SHIRTS

THAT'S JUST THE FUCKING WAY IT IS!

    WHO ARE YOU WATCHING?!......Where's Joe?

    I DON'T GET IT.

    DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

    DO YOU WANT YOUR JOBS?

I'M THE ONLY IMPORTANT ONE ON THAT STAGE........Where's Joe?

  • @wonderwhaz797 "Who are you watching?" was not about Paul but about Jon the director. Paul would be pretending to cut off the band and Jon was actually doing it. If some watched Jon and others watched Paul, it wouldn't be together. Only thing is, we were watching JON and it WAS together.

  • @Mendy7952 Wow, were you actually in the band? Did you have to listen to that tirade?

  • @wonderwhaz797 I am certain that if he kept that up with any musician worth his salt he WOULD be in the hospital for a LONNNNNNGGGGG TIME! Someone WOULD have re-arranged his face by now...

  • @Mendy7952 My question is why should Paul Anka get angry at the director, why should the band be scorned for watching the director? The director is responsible for keeping the time, but Paul Anka wanted to keep the time too? Huh?! Well, then why hire a director? .........Where's Joe? By the way, if you know, who was Joe? LOL

  • Other then the swearing, to be honest, he just wants everything as perfect as possible. Can't blame him for that!

  • if hes the only important one why doesnt he go out there alone and just shut up?

  • Shitty singer. Shitty songwriter. Dick.

  • I don't understand why he's pissed at the band for screwing up the end of My Way or whatever it is they're talking about. He seems to me like he's giving very confusing instructions for who they're supposed to watch for their cue. Maybe if he said "Watch me and when I bring my hand down, that's when you come in on the last chord" or whatever. Besides which, I'm not sure anyone in the audience noticed or cared. They were just happy to see Paul Anka perform.

  • "When I move I slice like a fucking hammer!" There had to be at least one guy there that wanted to just say, "huh?"

  • @RayWagner -yup, i get it. the next time he makes cuts, it's not going to be nice and neat like with a knife, it's going be a mess. look at it this way, try slicing bread with a hammer. ain't happening, that thing is gonna get smashed. hope that cleared up the confusion;^)~

  • Havin' my baby!

  • Sometimes it's the band leader who is the one messing things up. Most are

    to stupid to know it!

  • The tirade was over the top! But I think when Paul Anka says he's the only important one on that stage, he really means that anyone in the band is replaceable except for him. He is the only one that people are paying to see. A great bunch of musicians is important, but it doesn't matter who the individual musicians are. Nobody is paying money to see Joey the trumpet player. They are paying to see Paul Anka and hear his songs. Anyone in the band can be replaced if they don't make the cut.

  • @mrderekevan That's it. None of our names were on the marquis. Paul mispronounced my name every night when he introduced me and I never said a word. Because it wasn't about me. It was about him being a big man and introducing me. See, it is an ACT. That is why it is called an ACT. If you want music, go to Carnegie Hall.

  • Comment removed

  • He writes one good song for Sinatra and thinks his shit don't stink! I'm embarrassed to think he comes from Canada. :S

  • I play drums for a frontman who is a local star. He hired me. My job is to make him look good. The band is not a democracy. I don't get a vote. I give my opinion when he asks for it. Otherwise, I do what he tells me to do. That's just the way it is. And you know what? That's fine with me. He writes the checks and that makes him the boss. If you don't want to play under those rules, don't take that kind of job. But if you take the job, do what you're paid to do. It's called being a professional.

  • @docthebluesman it's one thing to be a professional and there's another to be a slave. I don't need a job that badly to deal with a prick like Anka.

  • @jeffkahl There is criticism and then there's ABUSE...This guy thinks he's GOD himself!

  • @docthebluesman And Anka is acting like a professional? This guy has done nothing to treat people like this. There is only one guy in this business who could pull this off and that is buddy Rich, because he could back it up. Or should I say walk the talk.

What a total asshole Anka is being. If he thinks he's the only important one on that stage, HE MORE CLUELESS THEN HE ALREADY IS.

Here's the reason, without the band behind him, he's NOTHING!

    WHAT AN ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "I'm the only important one on that stage"? What a fucking asshole. He can't even really sing. This is pretty funny though, to actually see how big his ego is.

  • I know musicians. The band is f-ing -up because they're all smokin' boo backstage!

One question: How does one "slice like a hammer"?

  • I know musicians. The band is f-ing -up because their all smokin' boo backstage!

  • The guys get shirts- is that correct ?

  • @pekoe67 Don't make a maniac outta him! You've got one week's notice! He's all about the integrity.

  • he likes it hiiiiiiiiiiiis wayyyyyyyyyyyy

  • @norristerse Awesome, thanks for your comment!

  • @styleomatic

    cheers!

  • THE GUYS GET SHIRTS, OK.

  • @waltherppk1000 oooh...someone's getting horny already..what's that blinking sound? oh that's your alert anklet. lol Go back to jail you guido piece of trash

  • @waltherppk1000 yea i probably wouldn't survive in your company where hillybily hicks sodomizing each other fantasizing abou paul anka

  • Hilarious pictures!

  • Life in a bubble.. A mushroom farmer deals with bullshit but at least it's productive bullshit

  • I think doctor hackenstein must be drinking at least some small amount

of what ever Paul is drinking---and whatever it is, please keep that stuff FAR

away from me---NO ONE has the right to talk to ANYONE that way--I don;t care what their reasons are--I think he must have been trying for the Diana Ross award that particular day

  • Wonder what he would say if the red hot chili peppers bass player showed up in his titey whiteys.

  • Thanks Jimmy Pardo.

  • The little things, done right, add to the whole picture. Anka is making money to support a lot of people and he's got to make it as good as possible. Plus, the guy he's chewing out seems like he can handle it.

  • I can see his point But! Paul Anka, what a wanka!

  • @TheLonesomeEchoesite "none of your business," LOL. You post it on YouTube in front of the world, it's everyone's business. Didn't know about that word, though. That's uncalled for. Who's "going another round," bro? You ever been in the ring? A conversation is not the same thing at all.

  • @altosax314 If you wsih to call the shots, are curious, or just a happy guy that has a sense of humour and needs conversation simply for appeasement or lack of interest otherwise, your inquiry into the comments of others presupposes that you may not privy to the gest of the comments that preceeded. ''Punter'' in England is a term commonly used for 'paying customer' of prostitutes, as well. A round of converstion in discourse is another matter. A gentleman is never unintentionally rude. Happyday

  • @TheLonesomeEchoesite How is it racist to say that James Brown had high standards, too? "Punter" is a paying customer if you're in England.

  • My friend Paul Anka is extremely professional. He just got real angry. Everybody blows their lid. He's not that way at all. He's a very loving dedicated man. You see the real person when he pours his heart out to the audience and see tears in his eyes.

  • @jazzavox Finally someone who defends Paul Anka because he understood the reason for his outburst! I like what you wrote! :)

  • FUCK, JUST BUY THE GODDAM SHIRTS!

The clip is hilarious, thanks. Anka may be aprofessional musicisn but I'm glad be is not a cocktail barman " I slice like a fucking hammer" ???? WFT Paul , I've never seen a hammer slice a lemon!

Gotta say, people pay to0 see these guys, so he is right to keep them focused. James Brown fined band members for unprofessionalism, ie slopy dress. Maybe Anka could have been nicer about it, maybe not, he may have been too nice before and they ignored it..

  • Lovely attitude, bet every body loves Paul. The charisma is totally lacking here and possibly never.

  • hehehe where's Joe?

  • Hi, everyone! I am italian and i didn't understand much. Is this conversation authentic? If yes, why was Paul Anka angry?

  • It sounds like "John" is the band director but not directing. Real pros perform like pros. Paul shouldn't be the one giving this talk, it should have been done by the music director. Paul, with all of his experience, should know this and should have resolved this with his musical director long before it came to this.

  • i listened to about 4 mins and got bored.Just another extremely rich, short man that likes to try and bully people - BECAUSE HE CAN - and he knows the musicians depend on him for their livelihood.

I just don't get it. If he wants to get the best out of his musos then, clearly , he's going about it the wrong way. It just leads me to believe that he enjoys a bit of bullying -TWAT !!!

By the way - he can't swing either !!!

  • @billyboy496 Maybe he ahd tried the nice way and it wasn't working. It seems to me his attitude is taht the punters deserve better. Emelyn Hughes said that Bill Shankly, the great Liverpool manager, reamed him out for a half-arsed performance in one match ,Shankly, like Stein and Busby had been a miner and he told Hughes that he was a thief taking the money of hard-working men to half-play a game in a shirt that they would play in for the love of it. Same thing driving Anka's tirade, I think.

  • @Jigaboo123456 Punters? Where did you meet your girlfriend?

  • I love the line where he says "Don't Make a Fuckin' Maniac Out of Me"! I was hysterical laughing on that one!

  • creepy old guy behaving like a diva...tiresomely creepy

  • Awesome job coordinating the images with the rant. One of the funnier things I've seen on YT in a while.

  • @Signal30Bassman So glad you liked this. There's a lot of audio... it took me a while to get the stills lined up.

My favorite part is when Paul says, "I don't care if it's Jesus Christ..." and U-2's Bono is flashed in there... Let's face it: Bono's ego is greater than any of the world's popular celebrity deities!

  • And you thought Buddy Rich had issues with HIS band... :^P

  • This is what makes professionals out of amateurs. If no one REALLY cares, shit happens.

  • @CCConservatory What makes them PROFESSIONALS is that they come back tomorrow and do it again for a good paycheck. You want art? Go to a club where the player is making $40.

  • These has beens just slay me. As if anybody even remembers. These old men use young kids to play on the road and they take the gig to get experience. Advice, I use to do the same thing. I would look for other gigs constantly before something like this happened. I always had a new car with enough room in it for my clothes, and instruments, so right after something like this happened, gone and who cares, he doesn't and I don't.

  • Ha Ha, Another hot drummer! You gotta like drummers that know what they want.

  • Great video! Paul's right. Band members can be screw-ups sometimes.

  • Where's Joe a little after 3 minutes, then you flash DiMaggio. Hilarious! Happy Easter!

  • I think he was more than fair - he outlined the standards he wanted and gave the band a chance to fix things. Part of the problem we seem to have society-wide is a lack of desire to be the best we can be.

  • I think Joe's gone out to get the guys some shirts.

  • When he's talking about how the guys get shirts, it sounds like he's more upset with the fact that his wardrobe guy screwed up regarding failing to provide the appropriate attire for the band. I like the part when his group is all over the place with their endings. Don't they know how to read their arrangements?

  • Great job Style. Anka's ritual humiliation of his band and abuse of authority is beyond grotesque. Forget 'put your head on my shoulder', Anka deserves a fist in the face.

  • Give them hell, Paul. These assholes are late because they're not as serious as you are about entertaining -- that is, about their fucking jobs.

  • For an act like that common sense should tell you not to wear a fucking T-shirt. He's right to be pissed off. He didn't fire anyone either. He gave them a chance to shape up or ship out.

  • this is on a volume of a cd series that I had a hand in making one volume

this was also discussed on HOWARD STERN with Paul Anka, at that time it happened 15 years before...

  • Vincent Falcone spent several years with the right hothead - Sinatra. This creep is such a fuppin moron it ain't true!!!

  • That's how you TCB, Bitches

  • "I'm the only important one on that stage...I don't care if it's Jesus Christ..." ...so, Paul, are you bigger than Jesus, or just your ego?

  • deal with that

  • For those people who are complaining about Paul Anka being upset - I think he had every right to be upset.

His bandmates don't sound like they really care all that much.. Its his band; they are employed by him ; they were obviously doing a shitty job in terms of dressing properly on stage and playing the music correctly. I don't blame him at all.

  • *** I think he had every right to be upset***

'Upset'? 'Playing the music correctly'? Anka isn't genuinely upset, the whole foul mouthed tirade sounds fake as hell. And how hard can the 'Diana' chords be? My guess is Anka resents the bands' height advantage over him. The bass player was 5 foot 2, towering over Paul.

  • nah you are the upset one. Anka has money and talent. Do you have either? ;-)

    (nudges you)

  • Ha! You said, 'Anka has talent.' Thanks dude, we can all do with a laugh after watching this psycho.

  • No I really meant it. The nudge was just so you didnt think I was an asshole. No he is very talented and I have no issues with him yelling at his band (to get em to shape up...!).

  • Do the guys get shirts? Is he the only important one on that stage? What's the sound of one hand jerking?

  • Make no mistake,he is who he IS because there is this side to him.

More often than not,to reach the pinnacle of success you need to throwdown every once in awhile.

And that's just the "fuckin' way it is."

  • but i'm confused...

    do the guys get shirts?

  • Actually i think Anka was totally right to chew out his band! Like he says he pays them on time and is there for them so why can't they look out for him? Wearing tee shirts is totally disrespectful when Ankas fans are mostly older types who are used to suits. Playing bad or lighting wrong etc makes him look unprofessional to his audience. I don't blame him any CEO of any company would do the same..it's a job do it right!

  • @doctorhackensteinmd lol wow you don't know anything about what was going on when this happened, or the situation at hand,,,,doctor needs to wake up lol

  • @doctorhackensteinmd music is supposed to be fun, and when it's not fun, it becomes a job.

  • Anka is a good song writer but he is obviously a arrogant prick who has wet dreams about Mussolini! This guy is a small man with a monster ego.

  • "Shirts for everyone. MJ T-Shirts!

    NOW!

Don't make a fucken maniac of me. That's just the way it fucken is!"

OMG, I'm dyin' here.... and I've heard this so many times already...Bwahahahahahaha

  • Now he just hit the jackpot on the "new" Michael Jackson song! "They have a major, major problem on their hands," Anka said earlier today.

  • hes a maniac maniac

  • Are all washed up performers this big of an asshat?

  • Happy birthday, hammer-slicer!

  • Did you see Wynton Marsalis on trumpet in the left background of one of the pix? Man, Paul Anka is an idiot! Who knew?! Can you imagine how many maitre d's have heard him say, "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!"

  • Sweetie, I need to cut this cucumber. Have you seen the hammer?

  • That's Just The Fucking Way It Is!

  • Where's Joe?!! Great visuals from start to finish. NIce video "cameo" from Vinnie Falcone, one of the coolest piano/conductor guys.

Thanks for posting, hadn't heard this one for awhile.
