Lorenzo was writing a novel The story in the novel was interspersed with the story in the film The girl was in novel, and was an imaginary result of the real one nighter he had on the island. Lucia went to the island when she thought Lorenzo was dead because of how Lorenzo talked of the Island.

I thought it was a wonderful film about the complications of both love and writing. It was great to see sex portrayed so positively, even joyfully, unlike porn.
