  • hey cool we like it, greetings from the experimental band TRANSVESTITEstallion we added it to one of our insane playlists

  • I expected to listen bad music and was surprised - maybe it's a little too simple, but serious and interesting at all

  • FUCKING BASS! :D

  • So is half of the musical experience watching the video? Im sorry but im not getting very hip to this... >.< help?

  • @EcuadorFreak I'd suggest you just put ur headphones on and fullscreen the shiet and imagine this as a real 3-d space of some kind, sick-like trippy. :D

  • WOW.

  • WOW, JUST WOW.

  • Documentary shots from another civilization, from a far corner of the universe, abandoned long ago for reasons now lost. Cut up from whatever was found in the main computers, videos of destruction or abandonment, on an unrecognizable decoding. Dark, dreamy, dreary.

Reminds me of Blame! log videos, D. Lynch sequences, Autechre degraded video clips.

  • beautiful upload . . .

  • Alva Noto does beuatiful work, just deep, contemplative and so goddamn cool

  • Art!

  • Alva Noto - Spray (Original Mix) [This Is The Real Life?]

  • I feel like this is sort of what it would be like after a nuke got dropped somewhere near you, but you somehow survived it.

  • maybe someone knows were could I download this full version of spray?

  • fa caca

  • yes i think tis is art, but without video. this sux

  • This is definitely how I would visualize grain cloud(s)!

  • i wanna know how this music is made, are data sources used and reinterpreted into sound and visuals simultaneously, what is it composed of does anyone know?

  • @onawintersnight Alva Noto uses different techniques from album to album etc., but one of his main techniques is to re-record samples several times over to add the "white noise" effect. The original sounds become lost in the noise caused by the loss of the original sample's integrity. By doing this he retains something of the original sample but also adds strange, haunting and new effects.

Not sure if that's what he's doing with this track but it's what he did with his "Xerrox" albums.

  • good lord, thanks it's not in hd... i'd be orgasming all over my computer right now...

  • This is my favorite!

    Obviously, you have a vision!

  • I genuinely enjoy this piece of music. I'm not even watching the video. I don't care if it's art or what, I like the piece, and I intend to download this, I don't need the video.

  • Just came across this group yesterday after venturing out for some droning type music, I'm like in love now. This video is wicked too, do wish it was in hi def. I'm pretty sure my friend will love this.

  • la tranche da 4'46" a 5'05" è fantastica.

  • yeah i think i'd more call it contemporary art then music

  • i wonder how many people watch this video and think, 'fuck my speakers are broken.'

  • None if they know what they're in for before listening. Like AYe!

  • el0pinante: estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo, lo vi ayer en Lima también y me encantó, totalmente distinto al ambient que presentó en Barcelona, mis respetos al Sr. Alva Noto ;)

  • I'm from Perú, I saw Alva Noto with Ryuichi Sakamoto at Sónar 2006 - Barcelona, it was fucking boring, now he's coming to Lima. Hope don`t make me sleep again...

  • ESTAESLAFORMA, i saw him yesstarday in LIma; was "a little bit more pop than he has" and was awsome. ... boring for you its because maybe you heard the most experimental of his work.

  • ecin eno oot dab eht gnikcuf gniht skaer fo ...

i dunno, gnihtemos, don't get me wrong , i love the fucker..

  • avant garde!

  • Tonality, harmony, melody were destroyed back in early 20 century by the likes of Schoenberg et al. as nothing more than contingent social categories of production imposed on music. Tuned pitches and the 'natural' were destroyed by musique concrete. Music is, at its most minimal level, nothing more than the rationalisation of sound over time. Carsten's work, including this, fits very easily into this definition. There are far more interesting debates to be had about Noto.

  • where can I read more about such things (books, websites, etc)?

  • sorry I didn't realise you'd replied. Alex Ross' the Rest Is Noise is a good place to start. It's a history of major developments in 'art' music over the 20 century and its a fun read too. More academic but verging on noise itself is Paul Hegarty's Noise/Music: A History

  • I will check that out, thank you for your reply

  • try some lsd

  • I think Fama made a valid point, its not really music, i dont see why he got -4 post count for that one. I guess this is more of a... i dunno, sound?

  • The quality is not good enough to apriciate the fuul work of carsten nicolai

  • i just found a 40mb m4v file at the 2nd link in the info, its a little less tortured

  • wtf?

  • fascinating. btw you can listen to alva's songs at his homepage

  • I think this is brilliant, stimulating, creative, unusual, the list goes on :) I agree that this is not conventional music, but as it is sonic art it can obviously be called music. I mean you could listen to this on its own, to good effect. But with the video it becomes something else. This reminds me of stuff in the art gallery I used to work in, and to be honest, we could've used more of this stuff :) :) :)

  • This is great stuff love it!!

  • This is great stuff!

  • In my opinion... Music? ...no, not really. Art? Definitely. I kinda liked it.

  • i agree

  • it is not actualy real music, it takes a lot of time to get in to it. but when you do...

  • witch album is this from?

  • dumbass

  • shut up cunt

  • This WOULD be a good screensaver!

  • beautiful music and video, who is the guy that doesnt think this is art? dont just tell him if you dont like it dont watch it. attitudes like that are the reason this stuff doesnt get shown to more people who might appreciate it

  • this is art, for the video, but for the music, i dont understand, just the image are introducing the sounds but the sounds dont introduce the image

  • @rascalrascal agree

  • I saw it in a performance at the OFFF 07 in Bcn. Do you know if it's possible to buy it as DVD?

  • is it ascii? particles? it's a shame youtube still samples down the rate this much...

hi-res is a must on this! I like it anyway

  • briliant

  • Nice style, wouldn't mind seeing this with a more up-tempo sound.

  • I pretty much like the minimal structure of this piece.

  • someone posted it somewhere and said how good it was, so i watched it and shared my opinion of how pointless it is. people are allowed to have different opinions without rasihasi resorting to insults, or you telling me what i can or can't watch

  • riznich please!! post your own video before commenting someone else videos... show the people how 'artistic' and how 'good' you are...

or you got nothing intresting to upload... what ashamed (lol...)

  • if you're not a fan of alva noto then why watch it?

  • you don't get art too much, do you?

  • =) you just can understand that's all

  • you just can't understand thats all =)

  • what a waste of time

  • ok then watch the things that are on your standard: soft porn and pop music XD

and let the adults watch art quietly.

  • Video's OK, text is REALLY silly... ("dissolution of THEIR ideas" I guess)

  • remembered watching alva noto, kangding ray and 1 more dude at the singapore biennale 06. awesome visuals and not too mention the aural pleasures

  • remembered watching alva noto, kangding ray and 1 more guy at the singapore biennale 06. provoking visuals..
