  • nice version of peg by steely dan

  • geil!

  • I can see Larry is not missing Walter Becker on bass!! DAMN!!!!!!!!!! GO MELVIN DAVIS!!!!!!!!

  • いいいなぁ。大学時代に隣の部屋の先輩がこのアルバム持ってて、朝によくかかってました。今聞いてもファンキーでかっこ良いフレーズだ!

  • good to see musicians all on stage really loving what they do.... are you looking universal!

  • identical "peg" chords, comping, beat. on the A section,,,the rest is pretty different, but maybe he should a changed one chord on the A section...just for "forms" sake

  • Great song to chill out to and/or get smashed to and/or make love to.

  • I FEEL LIKE I DIED AND WENT TO "335" HEAVEN!!!!!!! LOVE IT

  • melvin davis ruleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssssss

  • ベースぱねえwwww

  • He is Legend!

  • Love the dual 335 attack!! I'm going to buy one now..........!

  • Two masterful guitarists on one stage in a Country that needs to be recognized for their determination and shear will to rebuild. You never see the Japanese on TV with their hands out like so many other Countries after natural disasters. I am humbled by these people and their strength and character. Glad to see them enjoying life again after those terrible disasters. God be with you all.

  • Larry should do a benefit tour for Japan.

  • @kocean1 He did

  • this is the same progression of steely dans 1977 tune "peg" its still great though!

  • @masongensman Larry readily admists. He said he wrote this when he was doing tons of session work for SD

  • ritenour, carlton, loeb...all the fourplay alumni

  • Praying for Japan!!!.. and with this tune i'am Jammin' for Japan!!!!!

    Cheers Everybody!!!!!! Konichiwa Everybody!!!!

  • Que som gostoso! No ponto!!!

  • @MOSKII58 you're right! That's the first thing I thought of when I heard this for the first time. This is a tasty treat for sure, all the way through.

  • OMG!! Is he Steve Jordan!? he's my fav!!

  • this reminds me of the Dan's "Peg"

  • nice performance

  • They need a 3 Jazz Guitars tour. Carlton & Ritenour & Metheny

  • @BullToTheShit no...too different styles!

  • LOVE!!! :) :)

  • ... suerte la del bajista... al que sacan del agujero en el que se mete él solo.....!!!!!!!

  • It makes me so sad that there are over 42 who are so ignorant of the true music.

  • @popes0919 Over 42? Is that all? You gotta be kidding me. The 42 people who thumbed down this music are just the tip of the iceberg of people who due to the proliferation of the utter nonsense dished out by the record companies no longer know what real music is about. When record companies promote rubbish 24-7, the masses think that it's the best thing ever and they get used to it. So when they come across real musicianship they can't appreciate it. It's called the degradation of Art.

  • when Lee took off there, he totally lost what Larry was going for

  • I agree with jvm410ftw, you do have to love larry's tone... playing wise neither is better it's just preference at their level.

  • love Larry Carlton so much~i've been replaying this song for lot of times. The other one i can't stop listening is "smiles & smiles to go." like his playing w/ FourPlay too~i feel touched every time when seeing their live:D their passion for music has never been diminishing w/ age~

  • I have this on my ipod but had never seen the video. Two great guitarists. Great to see Larry C stretch out a little. In love w/ his playing since the Dan 'Kid Charlemagne' days but 'frustrated' by his studio stuff where it seems like he is too safe and commercial. Liked his playing w/ FourPlay a lot, also.

  • PRAY FOR JAPAN !!, I hope that all of those japanese people in this place are ok ...

  • @HolyGK I think this gig was quite a few years ago, well before the tragedy..Nonetheless I'm with you in your prayers....but meanwhile, we bomb and kill...unbelievable!

  • @HolyGK Thank you!

  • @HolyGK would you pray for burma and sudan and africa and everywhere else in the world too?

  • @CroissantOrange If I could yes.... but why are you asking that question. You might not noticed but that live was played in Japan and not in sudan or burma or cambodia or anywhere else. That's why I made the link with the recent japan earthquake and those people in the public...

  • @HolyGK Thank you HolyGK. Im very happy to see your comment. Im appreciate from all of Japanese.

  • sounds so familiar to me, it was 30 years ago when i was a college student.

  • Geeeez! Them guys are goooooood.

  • Both of these guys are amazing. Gotta love Larry's tone. O_O

  • Got to love the tone on that Gibson 335. Wish I had one. Larry and Lee are amazing and they both have played on Steely Dan recordings.

  • They are in Tokyo. That might explain some things.

  • I agree... they are more than just channeling the Dan... they are steeling from Dan Pun intended.

Which is kind of sad. Lee is better than that. Or at least he used to be.

    Cheers.

  • @exceligent Larry openly admits he was copping off Peg. He wrote this back in the days he was doing a lot of solo work for them.

  • Hey...sounds an awful lot like "Peg" from Steely Dan....

  • Ein Genuss!

  • The whole band is laughing because the audience enjoys the shitty elevator music better than Larry's creative solos.

  • Both these guys wore the strings out, I hate when ppl compare artist against one another. Who really cares? Just enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @whaaselfesteem you're right.why compare, both are good in their own right.you guys if you know how to play, post your video and lets see how good you are!!!!

  • Oh yeah!

  • I like the banter about who's the better guitarist...these guys are both phenominal and the discussion about who tops who in this performance is not warranted...it's not a pissing contest....two great musicians in their own right sharing the stage, it's about accompaniment not comparing.

  • Hahah, nice hair style, mr. Bassist :P

  • @LiberoMan I firmly believe that's a hat

  • @robzecc HAHAH, you are so right! xD

  • DAMN AWESOME BASS SOLO!!!!!

ladies and gentlemen: MELVIN LEE DAVIS!!!

  • This is great ! GREAT !!

  • Carlton smokes Ritenour yet again.

  • This was about 2 years before LC took Rit's place in FourPlay, I would like to have heard THAT conversation! Hahaha.... (I'm quite sure it was a POSITIVE thing, not a negative at all. LC stayed with 'em quite a bit longer than Rit did, but now Chuck Loeb is with FP, sometimes it's just time to move on.)

  • @ZeekDuff Rit had started his own record company, called IE Music, and could not devote the time needed for FP.

  • @BadSneakers Ah yeah, I recall reading about that, didn't make the connection, but now it makes sense. Thanks!

  • @ZeekDuff But I don't think Rit and Bob James have collaborated since...Not saying anything is to this. I know Rit has done stuff with Harvery Mason and I'm pretty sure Nathan East, though.

  • What masters of tone and taste.

  • "Room 335"...as played by the two masters of the 335 Larry and Lee!!!

Real guitar playing...melodic fusion at it's best !

  • Actually sounds more like Weather Report!

  • sounds like weather channel music....lol great though

  • this joint reminds of good times we at had the actual room 335 here in Afghanistan...;)

  • Carlton's sound is awesome.

  • จะมีสักกี่คนที่รู้จักเขา ... Larry Carlton

  • Peg Steely Dan:)))))

  • Larry Carlton . Room 335 ... was one of my favorite L.P.s

when it was released, and it it still is ..............

mine is the origanal vinal .. LOL ....

  • After work stress reliever for the commute back home.

  • This is music

  • @elias909antonas You don't say?

  • 1:16

Whale coming out of the ocean.

  • @bobsegat000 LOL

  • itS not Melvin...

  • vado a sentire lee alla casa del jazz ho appena preso le pevendite su listicket, non vedo l'ora

  • Melvin Davis is an amazing bassist, but for some reason I think his solo was more of a show-off than anything. It didn't quite fit the song.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the whole thing - I just thought he could have made it a lot better. Thumbs up anyway ;-)

  • @marmelaki Same here. I don't quite like his solo. That, however, hasn't lessened his ability a bit.

  • It is so much fun watching people who love to make music!! It is truly magic! Thanks for the post!

  • Larry is unREAL

  • konnnasubarasiigitarisutoninaritai...

  • WHY are all the great performances in Japan ????

    1. row can´t even follow the beat..

Love to see these guys once !

  • @MyBluesGuitar Americans are too "popped out"!

  • @MyBluesGuitar US is too busy with beiber. No time for talent!

  • @Squish888 Hey I'm American and I appreciate talent! I'd start cursing Bieber out here but I don't do that lol.

  • @monkeys350 PLEASE DO. It is bone heads like Booger? Boner? Burber what ever his name is that takes all of the fun out of the music now a days. Here is some real talent. Kind of between Al Di Meola and Rush. Good stuff. I use to play for hours along with Lee and I learned so much. If it wasn't for music like this I would have never learned to play solo or turned on the weather channel.

  • Such beautiful melodies!!!

  • This music seems an excerpt from "Peg" from the album "Aja" of Steely Dan in wich Carlton has played (beautfully). Any story about this?

  • @stonelenny Yes, Carlton has said it was a intentional. He was doing tons of studio stuff with SD and wanted to do a song in the spirit of SD.

  • Superb stuff from the masters...had the pleasure of seeing LC in concert, a masterclass of guitar...and LR is amazing too...

  • Ritenour's play sux here. Owned by Larry 4 sure !

  • @Attilio75

    Only here

btw his disto is so cheap in this video

  • Hey guys! Just letting you know Lee Ritenour has a sweepstakes contest going on right now. You can win a Yamaha Acoustic Electric Guitar, Monster® Turbine Professional In-Ear Speakers, or even 110 Electric Guitar Strings. The contest is in collaboration with their new album, 6 String Theory. Check it out! Concordmusicgroup(DOT)com/FreeDownload/6stringtheory

  • Larry showing Lee how its done!

  • I say Yea, Melvin!

  • yeah, Melvin!

  • what album is the off?

  • Lee Ritenour album "Feel The Night" with Steve Gadd... fantastic

  • very nice

  • Two ridiculously tasty jazz players!

  • 着ているシャツのセンスはどっこいっ!!

    サウンドはダンブル直アンのカールトンの勝ち(笑)

    最近はめっきり歪ませなくなっちゃいましたが。

  • when i grew up these to where just equall Lee a bit more jazzy.. Larry a bit more blues..wonderful to hear thease monsters again

  • Have a listen to Joni Mitchell's studio, original version of Amelia. That's not a pedal steel you are hearing. It's LC on that 335.

  • This song has a similarity to Steely Dan's Deacon Blues. Nice though.

  • @MrHardrod2 Sounds like Peg too

  • Oh aren't we all happy people ...hm and some cheesy salsa in between...

Elevators had to be made for this music, just fits perfectly together...

  • @dockaiser Wouldn't he give you a kiss after the show ? Should have tried to get back stage.

  • Ritenour is the man...followed him since 76...I was 16...he shares his music and love...to all!

  • Very nice stuff!

  • it would be nice to see Larry play at the Baked Potatoe again........

  • i am skip the solo off bass all the time...

  • one of the best tunes!!

  • Who are the 37?

  • I personally watch larry carlton videos just so I can see 5+ people blissfully smiling into an audience backed by cheesy elevatoresque music. granted it's well written elevatoresque music with the best guitarists ever

  • Completely amazing musicians! this is what producing music is about

  • Lee blew me away

  • they look like they were vibin and havin fun doing what they love

  • Two of the grooviest, funkiest, tightest guitar players ever. . . in my opinion. Mr. Davis isn't doing to shabby back there on the bass either ;)

  • Either this progression sounds like Steely Dan's Peg or Steely Dan sounds like this.

  • @Subhuman80

If I remember correctly Peg came before Room 335. In fact I think Peg inspired Room 335. I may be wrong but I think that's right.

  • @Scarified2012

It's the other way around. Larry claims that he wrote the progression for Peg and was never given credit.

  • @emarzan7

Wasn't aware! Thanks for the info!

  • @emarzan7 I thought I recognized the similarity!

  • It is very good to know that what is reference quality music world has been and always will be what I really enjoyed as a boy

  • This is great, I've enjoyed it many times. Thanks

  • que dire que mieux

  • Larry Carlton might not be one of those actual guitar 'legends', but he's certainly a guitar master who plays this song freakingly awesome

  • C'est très fusion-film-de-cul...très cheesy mais géant

  • Check out Lee on the Captain Fingers album. He does a killer version of 'Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder. He definitely can rock.

  • aha i neeed to find the tabs

  • Very very sweet Larry, You are one of my favorites! Hard to believe this was 15 years ago! The sound is still as fresh as baked bread!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • Great players. Not great composers, though.

  • @neiogneidu They are great composers but may be what they compose is not so popolar.

  • It's not Junk.

    Its Ass!

  • The bass solo was junk.

  • it rocked man!

  • Peeeeeeeeeeeeeg...it will come back to you!

  • @lazerus9 Damn, i scrolled down to make the exact same comment,

and ya beat me to it, lmfao !!

  • @lazerus9 exactly.

  • @lazerus9 but way before peg it will come back to you, was even a sperm swarmin in becker fagens's balls lol

  • Fantastic!

  • Oh! don't bother so much!

You're wrong: I'm just a rock and jazz guitar player, fond of Hendrix, Coltrane, Maceo Parker...

Playng Gibson SG and ES 175.

Lee Ritenour is so good a guitar player, but this number is soul-less. For my point of view.

    Cheers!

  • O ok i'm sorry i thought you might been a dum dum

  • It's not so bad. The guitar sound wasn't his best there, it didn't help you to listen to the pick strengh and feel well enough.

  • @chiefmojorising1 Why a dumb girl???Could be a dumb ass lad too thanks...im a gril and fuckin love it

  • There's only so many chords, something's going to sound like something sooner or later.Larry was a vital part of Steely Dan way back when they were guitar based.

  • Many people listen to this song and don't even realize the central rhythmic and harmonic colorings are mirrored from Steely Dan's "Peg". Still, a very, very cool groove to improvise over.

  • i think i heard this rhythm a lot

  • Wow, I heard the similarity right away. I don't know how it could be missed!

  • dont like the snare

  • need more volume on this! turn it up fodera! :)

  • I would like to visit room 335 or at least play one.

  • Ritenour has a finesse and a touch that borders on magical!

  • Peeeg it will come ba.. oh wait a minute?

  • 'Lees solo was great but Larry was hitting the changes a bit more....... very sweet....

  • Mama mia Larryyyyyyyyy!

  • Wow, LC seems to really take the prize in this one. I didn't know he could shred so. The bass player is the weak link here I think. Thwack and pop...

  • SHRED..what the f--- you on..the MAN does not shred....he groves..

  • @brymacbluesband I am not trying to cause an argument, but he implemented some serious shred techniques. Plug him into a Mesa cranked and it would be considered shred.

  • I agree 100%. The bass solo was incredibly weak compared to the rest.

  • Repetitive figures in the bass solo aren't weak if implemented correctly, and I don't agree that it was a weak solo by any means. I was really diggin it.

  • Pfff... perfección en guitarra!

  • What a bass solo by Melvin Davis. Unreal.

  • brillient guitar work

  • remember 21 jump street i think he did the theme and he played with christoper croos listen to his album and the sosls are larry

    aloha

  • Larry´s second solo is just guitar heaven!

  • I want a Dumble Overdrive Special in the worst way. Larry's been using that amp forever. The problem is, they're so rare that people pay like $20,000 for them. Killer amp. You can crank it and use your guitar's volume knob to control the gain level without losing any volume. Way ahead of it's time.

  • Some of the best light Jazz ever.

  • reality is not many guitarists can make me cry , these are 2 of them along with pat metheny and bill frisell...pure soul

  • i'm sure the japs would appreciate larry and lee's cool looking shirts
