  • For me, Caruso's interpretation of the Siciliana is the most haunting! The astonishing flexibility of his many hued voice, the passionate drama, consistent beauty of tone and warm resonance make this early recording timeless and unforgettable! One of Mascagni's most enchanting tenor arias and a personal favorite! Thank you, Doug, for your uncompromising great taste and archiving expertise!
  • The master in all his empathetic glory. Great images ! Thanks for you contribution, Doug!

  • The sweet, velvety, melting tone; pure, silken legato phrasing; and sincere, haunting expression of this fabulous artist are captured to perfection in the aria. Caruso's voice and singing are peerless. Thanks for posting, Doug!

  • Indeed, all his versions of this piece are superb, but especially the 1907 with harp.

I particularly love the morendo fade in the last phrase of this performance.

  • Is there any aria that Caruso recorded more than the Siciliana? Perhaps Celeste Aida. I've found recordings of this in 1903, 1904 (the current performance), 1905, 1907, and 1910. Couldn't he get it right the first time? LOL

  • @meltzerboy There is also five performances of `E lucevan le stelle´.

  • Still magical after 105 years. What a voice!

  • Lovely! TY Doug.
