Hey rebel I’m going off to college soon and am looking for a bike to get to work, classes, and back to my dorm. My f150 is just too much on gas, but I’m keeping it to store the bike for freeway driving the 2h ride home for vacations. But I don’t know what to get; I did a lot of research and I’m in love with the 250r but I have never owned a motorcycle before and don’t know how well I would fit on the 250. I’m 6'3 and 220lb. Would the 250r be a good match for me?
Hello rebel, I'm an aspiring soon to be rider in the near future and I was wondering how I can know or a better way to know of I should get a 250 or 600?..ive watched so many videos from you and ramekin and theyve helped but I'm still not sure. I know I won't be taking it on the freeway or anything so it will just be local really. So would a 250 be best?...ive heard the 250 is good all around and I've watched your freeway videos to but I just wanted to ask :/ because it seems good on/off freewa
@tyler16666 I think the 250 is a great bike and fantastic to start on (if you have no bike experience) if you have some bike experience or even a manual transmission experience I think a 600 would be fine (but beware the in-line 4 cylinder 600s as they have IMMENSE power that will be less friendly to a new rider.
@rebelyell91 Well i can drive a stick shift fine, but i remember seeing a quote from i think you or ramekin, saying that its better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. And i think a 250 is better since its my first time ever riding one, or will be. i'd rather get comfortable on a 250 first i guess then. no reason to start on a more powerful bike and get hurt or die on it because of the power :P and thanks for the input and help! ive made my choice to get a green kawasaki ninja 250r
@tyler16666 i have a 350 and could not be happier. i really wanted a honda cbr 600 and even thought about a z1000 lol but i said no i have to play this smart. patience is a virtue i know the 250 is not all that fast but from my experience and others judgments and personal experiences the 250's are the best for beginners
@tyler16666 I watched all of rebels video's as well, and had the same problem as you. i decided on a bike that wasnt a 4 cylinder beast, but also not an anemic 250cc single or twin cylinder. an awesome compromise is the suzuki gs500, or the kawi 500. they are twin cylinder bikes, are not finicky (bulletproof is the word most used to describe them) and are fast enough to keep your self out of trouble without causing any.
I have a question for you, How did you convince your parents to let you get a bike? I'm really interested in getting a bike, but my parents aren't too happy about it.
@endosocks Get a decent job and buy it yourself. Unless they are going to kick you out of the house for doing so. Patience...im 25, married, a dad, home owner, school loans, and just now starting to get into riding...try not to wait like I have.
Honestly, as someone who got the 250 as his first bike, I would recommend the KLR to anyone. I have friends with KLRs that are still riding them after a few years and loving it. I was pretty tired of the Ninja 250 within a few months because it can only do one or two things, and it's very low powered. The KLR might not have the beefiest engine, but you can do a whole lot with that one bike.
@rebelyell91 I would say if you want to offroad get something just a bit more rugged than a klr , it looks just a bit too road oriented for confident offroading. I mean fine if you are just going down a bumpy dirt road but if you want to tackle the bigger hills i dont think the suspension would handle that kind of beating as stock.
@jimbo80982 Mine is an '06 model, however, I have a friend with an '08 model and another friend with an '09 model that have both proven to be quite capable offroad/dirt bikes (and 2 of us are old school (1970s) motocross racers, so we have been around a dirt bike or 2 in our days).
@rebelyell91 the v-strom looks awesoem ,ive never ridden it , but one of my instructors had them back during the test. He chose it because it was an enduro type and the enduros are all very good at soaking up the bumpy roads which is a big plus in the uk because the roads are horrible.

@879doogie Get some like a 125 or at the most 200cc cause it´s more fun then a high cc bike cause you can drop it and not care you can have more fun with it to.
I just wanted to add something about the ninja, if your just starting out, because its a smaller bike, you can really learn how to properly shift because you are shifting so much.
Thank you for being a Vlogger. I have learned so much from YouTube. I just bought a Honda ShadowVLX600CD. I have only driven a dirt bike and that was years ago. So, you and others have taught me so much. Thank you
Yeah man !!!!!! THIS IS REBELYELL91 !!!!!!!!! Good times, great vlogging and amazing trips !!!!!! This video is really better than the others !!! Rice 4ever !! K33P doing Your best-est, Jeff !!! Thumbs up for the vid, 'couse The man deserves !!!! Reeeeeaaaally nice vid, bro !!!
I don'T consider a 250 Ninja a "Sport Bike" .... A Sportbike has to be fast accelerating and overall Fast ... I saw Videos of the 250 ... and it was none ...
ninja 600 is a nice bike ! oder a Suzuki BANDIT :D
Hey Rebelyell91 I just wanted to know how your camera set up is for your videos. I can only find your old set ups. How did you mount the gopro and are you using a mic inside?
The KLR is an awesome bike to do anything, but I agree that as a first bike it would be a hand full, due to it's stand over height.
BTW, even having the camera attached to my helmet in the city seems a little strange to me :D But I do It anyway. People can think what they wanna think, not like I'm ever gonna see them ever again.
@kennyraceboy :) good call Kenny. I just get embarrassed when I'm chatting pretty loud in my helmet and then the guy next to me looks over and stares, since I'm talking to myself lol
It's not "end of story;" stop spreading bullshit. They are two very different bikes built for very different applications. If you want to do some adventure touring that includes a lot of off road, a 650r would be a complete waste of money. Again, people should choose bikes based on their intended applications. If all you care about is going fast, then you shouldn't be buying a 650R anyway.
With the 250, there are a lot of people who start with that bike. Many times they are ready for a bigger bike within a year. These bikes are readily available used, in very good condition, cheap. So cheap, that you only need liability insurance. It's much like a hand-me-down bike. A fairly new KLR, can be bought cheap as well, but will cost a bit more than the Ninja. The KLR handles great in the curves. A very nimble bike.
I've ridden dirt bikes for a long time and my first on road bike was a CRF230L dual sport. But now I have a Ninja 250, both really great bikes. However, they are very hard to compare I mean they are in two completely different categories.
Can't wait to move back. I'm from Mesa.

@jimbo80982 I quite often do some very serious off road stuff on a box-stock KLR. (more than 10,000 miles of it so far)
My 2 cents worth
