  • i have exactly the same problem everytime i pull off it release a note

  • Hi, i can sweep pick fine up to 5 strings at fairly good speeds but i can't stop my strings ringing when my fingers come off so i end up getting open noes playing over the rest of my pattern, How do i stop it?

  • Thanks from Spain, you are the best because the apparent difficult of the technique it's in the part of pull up, and nobody explains that. Gracias amigo, muchas gracias.

  • Good job explaining the foundation of sweeping, a lot of vids just show off the player's abilities.

  • Thank you bro. It helps a lot.

  • Thanks ALOT! This helped so much

  • this is deffinetly "sweeping, for dummies"

  • thanks man! your video realy helped me :D

  • thank you! great lesson! so many great shredders giving lessons out there, but not many good teachers! there's more to teaching then just being a good guitarist. i think you nailed it.

  • pffff this shit is hard, but im gonna keep practicing :D

  • so i was looking through videos on how to sweep pick all over youtube but couldnt find one that i could actually learn with but then i came across this one and i finally learned my first sweep pick :D

  • thank you so much you have taught me the basics of sweeping and i got it now thank you so much

  • I've been trying to understand the basics of sweep picking for quite a while and thanks to your patience and knowledge I'm starting to get it. Thank you very very much!

  • Thanks for the vid.

  • 4:38 He looks at the camera with a death glare... wondering why the students have started playing out of time.

  • Nice vid - got something similar on my channel for anyone starting sweep picking.

    Peace out.

  • thanks for the help man, great video!

  • best video on YouTube 2 learn how 2 sweep awesome job dude! \m/

  • Sweep picking has always been the thing to hold me back, i've always had trouble grasping exactly what is being pulled off with the technique. thanks to your vid, I feel i have a much better understanding and am on my way to learning sweeping :D thanks a bunch, awesome video!

  • @kakashigaiden3 Thanks for watching and keep practicing.

  • Who cares what he looks like were not here to compare looks were here to learn how to sweep so lets stop commenting stupid shit and just pay attention to the video!!

  • Thx for lesson. But still hard as hell.

  • Wow, this is probably the most patient and descriptive lesson i've found on youtube so far. I've got the basics to sweep picking but I really could use this to fix it from the ground up, thanks!

  • @DDRKnightProductions Thanks for watching. Tab for this is available on my website under lessons.

  • great lesson dude you rock, i must say, very helpful, i can almost keep up with you during the last part when you play it superfast

  • Thanks everyone for the comments, both positive and negative, some are very funny. Stay tuned for more.

  • Dude...you rock!!! Great lesson, and I think you are cool looking enough.

  • @MrJimmyd16

Thanks! Glad you liked the lesson.

  • You are the only person on youtube who actually taught me how to sweep. YOUR AMAZING. THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • @camojames123

    Your welcome! Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you so much ^^

  • I've looked and tried so so many different lessons on sweep picking, lots of cool loooking dudes all basically showing off what they can do and what "you" would love to do, no lesson at all. Then I saw your vid, you may not be the coolest looking dude but you certainly know how to teach, because at last I am sweeping, totaly due to your video, I've never ever commented on a video on you tube either but I'm so pleased I wanted you to know. Well done and thank you, you really are a cool dude.

  • @setsebbati Lol yeah i know what you mean. My guitar teacher also shows off a bit much X D . He shows how to play it slowly. i play throught it. then he plays it at full speed and i just watch. lol

  • @setsebbati

I have always had a face for radio! Thanks for the comments!

  • THANK YOU you go into the detail of sweep picking and it really helped me keep rocking brother

  • great great video best sweep lesson i have found out there i have practiced it for only about forty five mins but after i got the sixtuplets down i was like whats next so i unpause the video and you said three down theres a sweep and three up theres a sweep thanks a lot dude you rock!!!!! \m/

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to make this! great lesson!

  • this is nice video. thanks

  • hehe when Masta the sweep picking ima finally get to play cob songs

  • The best technique of learning and breaking sweep picking down I have seen on You Tube. Thank you.

  • awesome thanks for that help, i managed to get up to the third stage within the first try but got stuck on the 4th, guess with a bit of practice it will all come within time

  • Thanks a lot. This video was a huge help. I've always tried starting things too fast, but you broke it down nice and easy. I can't play sextuplets, but I think with practice I will. I got my sweep picking start here.

  • I want to be able to sweep pick so badly. I play too fast, so I'm unable to get the hang of it and my fingers aren't able to keep up. But the problem I have when I try and start off slow is that I end up picking the strings. I just can't help it, even when I try not to, I can't slow down the sweeping motion.

  • @jakejohnhess

I don't know what gear you are using but I have had a number of students with the same problem. Some have been able to solve the problem but using a different pick. Know a lot that use the Jazz III and seems to help them a lot. Just a thought.

  • Dude, thanks for your lesson, you're really awsome!

  • This video could not have helped me any more. Before spending a few hours practicing this, I could only dream of sweep picking but now I am closer than I ever thought I would be to playing the insane solos of my favorite bands. I owe all my skill to this video, because before this, I thought sweep picking was only for those who have played guitar for years. Now I can be the amazing guitarist I want to be. Thanks Dave Krater!

  • @spolkpwn

Great! thanks for the comment and watching!

  • lol, I've got the same guitar :D :p

  • 4:40 Lmfao!

  • man this helps a lot, i just need a hell of a lot of practice. thanks man

  • Great starting point for sweeping - it's a technique I've never managed to get "down" properly, so working it from the first principles is fantastic. Thank you.

  • You should also watch him play some blues,he's very good, makes me jealous

  • @Khronospite...and to everyone whos dissin this guy,who gives a fuck what he looks like, you can't judge a book by it cover fuck-face,at least he's showing it slowly and a proper way to use a metronome.get a freak life for god sake and grow the fuck up...geeeeze,don't watch it you fuckin guitar gods

  • @wiredcycle

Thanks for the comment. Doesn't bother me any what some people say. Some are pretty funny! I just hope I am able to help. Thanks for watching!

  • thanks alot man..... you really helped me

  • i found this helpful but it's tiring to do lol my pinky feels like it detached from my body

  • I'm going to come back to this one when I get my first guitar I'm 13 and this seems easy but It's probably harder then it looks

  • found it helpful thanks (:

  • Thanks from France !

  • you look like a pedophile.

  • i hope you get molested by one :)

  • @Khronospite

and you sound like a douchebag. this man is giving some decent lessons, spending some of his time so that a few guys can learn to sweep pick. and you have to fuck with his looks! idiot

  • @freshbuddy chill out

  • @Khronospite You sound like a moron.

  • *determination face*

  • Cool, I've only recently heard the expression 'sweep pick' and thought it would be some advanced grandmaster ninja technique that I couldn't do but you explained it perfect.

  • @Dave54600

I wish it was a advanced grandmaster ninja technique! I could package it and sell it on late night tv. Thanks!

  • dude you have the same guitar as me! cept mine is black

  • yo why are ppl saying he looks bald/nerdy fuck you all, he can play, thats why alll the ppl that are saying this stuff are in your house / moms basement jamming by your self, if your heros like zakk wylde/jimmy page/randy rhoads/eric clapton/ all the gods were to read this and say this to a dude who loves to play, theyd alll say fuck you and this guy can play better than all you and im, pretty sure theyd all call you a disgrace

  • @RockSignProductions gracies fuck these people

  • @RockSignProductions

spot on, man. couldn't agree more.. if assholes could fly youtube would be an airport

  • @RockSignProductions Its sad how the world works doesnt it? These people would buy instructional dvds of their idols flipping their hair play their licks slow then fast and call it....lessons but in the end learning absolutely nothing. And when a guy wants to show something that can actually be useful and free...instead of thanking him they are commenting about his appearence.

  • hahahaa XDDD

he looks so nerdy and...not metal XD

  • @customan10 ikr

  • Great lesson, easy to understand and simple enough for beginners to try and practice. Thank you

  • @21semperfi

    Your welcome!

  • dude he sooo bald

  • @supadoob

My head is completely shaven now. Growing out my goatee and going to color it purple.

  • @supadoob dude you sooo ignorant

  • GOOD TUTORING MAN!! It feels like we "the viewer" is right next to you in person, you go step by step using the metronome and explains what you're going to do and what notes you play. GOOD JOB!!

  • @dime4life99 Dude your a troll

Pro Tip: Don't be a Dick

  • i have watched 100's of videos on here, and you explain and show this technique clearer than every other video on here. thank you for your post.

  • is he playing a hellraiser?

  • ADD kids would also like a little solo at the beginning of the vid to pull them in and show that you know what you're talking and how it can be applied

  • george costanza :D

  • @igorjukicze

I always thought I looked my like Elton John.

  • i just started sweep picking and this will help me soo much. thankx man

  • I've been doing that pattern for a good two years, but I can't stop getting a little open note buzz sound when I lift off the strings..

  • this guy taught me sweeping!

  • Really nicely explained. Thx!

  • Thanks been looking for a good vid on sweeping! XD

  • Sweeping is one of the hardest things to learn on the guitar. Finger tapping is much easier. But I love sweeping!!!!!!!!!

  • @Sk8happyrabbit1 Lol yea but then when u add sweeping and tapping its like O.o WTF............

  • I'm an average guitar player and this helped me a lot, thanks

  • easy

  • @2346 ur right, ive always done finger taping, so i was like wtf 0.o? but then after a while u start to get it faster and faster.

  • well im just starting to sweep and yea u feel like ur not getting any better but keep practicing cause im starting to get faster and it becomes more easier when ur brain learns what your doing

  • hey when ur hammering off on that 12th fret, instead of doing that can u just up stroke that?

  • @BoomSnapClapFag

You can do it either way. What works best for you.

  • Thank you!

  • thank you very much!! :)

  • wow, best lesson on youtube.

  • never before did i ever dream of being able to sweep pick but thanks to your video leason i am slowly but surely catching on to the concept its all about (i mean this in a totally non sexual way) the wrist motion and control its very hard but im starting to get it...for 5 years ive been playing guitar sticking to power chords and simpler shit and was intimidated with sweep tabs...now that i understand the concept i can go on to bigger and better things thank you very much

  • wow, your comment describes my story xD .. im the same, played for ages but never learned awesome techniques

  • @freakontheleash89 once you said I mean this in a non-sexual way, it just made it sound sexual.

But this is a very good lesson. Detailed.

  • @freakontheleash89 i feel the same way bro! it was really helpfull. thanks!

  • @freakontheleash89 Wut you did pwoer chords only got 5 years? did not even attemp any solos?

  • Really helpful lesson, thanks!

  • Ive watched like amillion videos but yours really helped thx alot seriously

  • for once somebody gives out some awesome lessons and take their time to help us understand because I do now and I love the method he uses, it may sound tough but i'm willing to go the extra mile thanks to this man.

    thank you.

  • I want to thank you personally. I've been playing for 30 plus years, but yet I couldn't sweep pick. Until I watched your video! Thank you SO much. What a great video. You're not showing off you're actually teaching. Thank you again!

  • very good job !!!!5/5 as a begner guitar studing !

  • if he is a whit bitch what does that make you ? don;t get me wrong but dont jugde somebuddy by the way he looks . cuz we all are made on Gods image ... are you calling God fat ass withe bich ?

  • The lesson is geared towards beginners, which is pretty rare. It's nice to see teachers now focusing on implementing simple versions of advanced techniques at earlier stages. Great job man.

  • Really thx alot i watched alot of other lessons but i still didnt understand now i do thx !!!

  • chupame la polla pero no toques los cojones tu maricon!

  • i thought this was preety good, showed everything you need to know and was quite clear, unlike other sweep lessons that people have uploaded :)

  • By using the penis of an unaccompanied friend, christthekiwi, ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

  • First off, that's not a proper A minor triad, it's actually an inverted A minor triad, (3d Inversion). Secondly economy picking and sweep picking are 2 different things. Economy picking involves subsequent down or up-strokes on adjacent strings, sometimes involving a hammer-on or pull-off. Sweep's are straight down strokes involving at least 3 strings, followed by upstrokes on the same 3 strings in the same arpeggio, sometimes accompanied with a hammer on, pulloff, in the arpeggio pattern.

  • So, maybe I should put up a website, naah, i'd rather teach folks for free, BTW, I am an experienced teacher, gave many a lesson at Mississippi Music in Biloxi, Ms! Give me a shout if you need a tip of two, I can put up videos on webcam if you want!

  • @gtr362

You are correct on the minor triad. Actually second inversion. I believe the order is root, 1st inversion than 2nd inversion. Thanks you for watching.

  • pinche viejito

  • Hey i dont have an electric yet so ive been doing this on an acoustic and when i play the G string at 9 and release my finger like in the vid i keep getting unwanted sound with it which is same with the B string at 10... Can anyone give my some advice on how to stop it? Thanks ^^)

  • im not exactly sure of what you are saying but maybe you are not pulling of your finger straight up and also learn to use all parts of your hands to mute unwanted noise hope this helps but not sure how else i can help you

  • Its sorta like the acoustic string sticks to my finger and then comes off making unwanted sound.... So should i use my palm to mute it after playing the note? ^^? Thanks

  • yeah its something you have to develope. like right after you play the note and you pull off your right hand kind of mutes it so it wont ring you get what im sayin?

  • @bloodymarry667 yea like when i started playing i hated the excess sounds so i mute naturaly same with my friend. im pretty sure once your ears get sick of it you too will just naturally get rid of the excess noise.

now can any1 help me out i get like a buzz from the springs on the back in the back of my trem. it dosent show up on the amp but i hear it unplugged.

  • @bloodymarry667

i know you've probably tried this, but you have to practice it slow, and keep it slow for a quite a while, it has to be absolutly clean all the way through, then speed it up, and practice that for a quite awhile.

  • out of all the video lessons on this that i have found on youtube, this one has made the most sense to me. thanks.

  • best lesson man great teacher

  • hey man really great lesson. i got it \perfectly. alot of others aren't this explanatory. thanx

  • A lot of these youtube instruction vids are like this.

It would be easier if he used close ups of the neck of the guitar plus a cut away to a tab of the lick. Simply get close ups of the left hand then the right. Then shoot a tab of the lick and edit them in using imovie or movie maker. Very basic stuff.

This is just one long medium shot, ADD kids will have a hard time paying attention.

  • Hey :( lol

  • @robbatkinson666 im 12 and can sweep picking

  • @yes0684

    Kay. But can you grammar.

  • @Clike666ness what is that

  • @yes0684

    Hehe, lol.

  • @Clike666ness what is it XD

  • your so cool!!

  • @robbatkinson666

I have ADD and I will have trouble paying attetion anyways.

  • verry helpfull thanx man :D

  • thank the good lord for this guy an actual lesson

  • hey this guy looks like that guy from the first G3 live concert with steve vai...lols

  • @borisblues

Mike Keneally. Worse guys to be compared to!

  • weird i youtubed how to sweep and your video came up! i took lessons from u awhile ago! small world

  • fantastic! thanks

  • :)<3

  • i have a question for anyone who would like to answer. Do you need a little bit of echo effect to sweep pick? almost all videos ive seen with good sweeping there was an echo on the sound.

  • Are you talking about echo or reverb? And often times, that sound is an illusion because of the way sweep picking sounds in general when played with distortion.
