Truly amazing how ALL animals automatically know what to do when giving birth. Although humans would NEVER clean our offspring like this (although I guess you could), it still represents an amazing understanding of just how much these animals know what's going on and how to deal with it.

A wet baby is a cold baby, so it also serves to warm up the wet little guy and the real kicker, the hormones in the placenta signal mom's breasts to start making milk big time. Not pretty, but very efficient. Ever seen a human baby born? Not 'pretty' but hardly "gross" unless you're under 12 years old!
