I'm very protective of this film. I originally saw the movie when I was very young, around 11 or 12, and I remember being fascinated by it back then. Although a long movie, it's VERY captivating all throughout, at least to me. I finally got around to reading the novella recently and absolutely loved it. Craig Toomey is my favourite character, and Bronson Pinchot delivered a great performance in my opinion. The ending is true to the novella.
That is, in all it's cheesy still-frame celebratory hop-in-the-air-that-usually-belongs-in -after-school specials, the actual ending of this very silly adaptation. Chompers out of super mario 3, a deranged balki, and special effects that were dated long before the film was completed, it all makes for a very nutty flick.
This, out of everything else in this (the poor cgi exterior shots and langoliers included) is what RUINED the it all!
You would think after all that happened (Toomey going psycho killing almost everyone untile getting sliced-n-diced at the end, the poor kid dying after injury trying to calm him, and the former SAS sacrificing himself) you'd think everyone would be a little more umm, you know, sober?
This is like something out of MMPR ( - comic release).

I watched this on sci-fi and they didnt show the ending.. they ended it and showed credits while they were at the window for the last time..
