These movies are awesome!! Just starting Karate and while a diff style the tips and technique's are basically the same. Thanks so much these are the best on here :)
If his right arm dosen't swing back how can he get the extra power from the hip rotation into his leg though? every time i try it i find that it takes a somewhat long time for my arm to snap back into its place, however if i try it like hes doing then I get less power into the kick on account of the momentum loss from my arm. Help?
This is one way of doing mawashi geri. With this method the impact is medium to low. If you wanna learn how to throw high impact mawashi geri, ones could break someone's legs, ribs, or neck, then learn mawashi geri from Kyokushin Kaikan:
The video you are showing is very good... But... The version you posted is specially good for a cornered opponent... I personally wouldn´t use it to chase off a running enemy inside the ring... No technique fits everything.
Well, that´s what I think. :D Thanks for the vid.
nice looking video but the concepts are not correctly stated.
Consider 0:34, you are told to bring the knee directly forward.
The problem is that under this explanation the only rotational power would come from the subsequent twist and no rotational power would come from the beginning.
A better explanation would have shown to bring the knee forward WITH A SLIGHT ARC so that the rotational power is generated directly from the beginning.
Good point but you are explaining the older version of roundhouse which has an arc. Modern day TKD roundhouse is completely linear to maximize speed. Arc does give you the gradual rotational power but linear version has the sudden twist motion which give it's pop as well. And "ideally" by bring the knee directly forward, opponents can't tell whether you're doing roundhouse or front.
mma uses rotation from the beginning, as does muay thai which was proven through kenetic measuring to deliver a stronger kick, stronger kicks mean more force, force = mass X acceleration, the leg isnt getting heavier, thus rotation from the beginning is a faster moving leg, and thus harder and more dangerous to block.
@Woolfrey I am not bashing anyone or any art....I train in SBD myself with some TKD background....You say a round house properly done cannot be blocked...After watching many vids on this, I will say TKD kicks are very fast and also SBD kicks are very fast...This speed is great in training and tournaments, but have you tried these kicks in blue jeans just to see how jeans reduce some speed and height for street use...Of course this will vary depending on the build of each person..
Excellent tutorial! I'm sure this is really going to help me with my kicking. Great to see examples of correct technique, incorrect technique *and* exercises that focus on particular elements. 5 stars. Keep up the good work! :-)

Lol, what a bullsh&i with this spiral force :P It's only a technique which has to release the 100% of the force form tha body, it has nothing to do with te receiving of force by the opponent's body.
mhmmm...watched some of these vids, then discovered and downloaded the human weapon series and he was in it..it was rad because these videos are fucking amazing
Respect, Very good tutorial,If you use roundhouse kick on the street fight. You got to control your self and completed with punches.otherwise don't use it Cresent kick working on the street fight.
i wil admit i never took classes to be a martial artist but i have trained my self and have emplimented it in real fights once i almost died fighting a very good friend of mine and i paralysed him for a week on his left shoulder but i digress that i know power and its not how you compile the knowledge of this strength it knocked many of men down for hundreds of years so why and how do you all figure that this kick sucks "cause man did not choose it
man diversity will help any fighter look at kimbo slice he barely ever fights on the ground something people say isnt real mma but look at him winning there is some advantage to this
the roundhouse kick is the most powerful standing kick in existance. the only experience you have is of watching people in the mma, so dont comment if you know nothing of the subject in question. one of the only kicks more powerful than the roundhouse kick, is the jumping 360 roundhouse kick known in tkd as the tornado kick.
now when theymeasured power on the national geographic channel the turning back kick was the most powerful kick, not knocking the roundhouse or your opinion just throwing a little science in the mix, and my reference of knowledge comes from a second black sash in Hun Gar kung fu and competing in sanda and mma.
that round kick is totally useless in a full contact fight and isn't able to do some real damage if you
are aiming at the body...it is called round kick due to the fact that the foot is travelling roundly...
usually one is using that round kick which is shown at the beginning of the video to confuse your opponend and to score points in some kind of competitions...but in a full contact fight those kicks are totally useless...
bull shit i fight full on with sparing buddies and it is very effective trust me when i say so it knocked a 250 pound man in the air once and tat man is me
In my first class, I held the bag for one of the blue belts, his kick left me with a decently sized bruise. Served me right for not holding it correctly though
Chuck Norris appeared in the "Street Fighter II" video game, but was removed by Beta Testers because every button caused him to do a roundhouse kick. When asked bout this "glitch," Norris replied, "That's no glitch."
in the vid n in most dojos they show kicking bags n such with the foot, but ive heard that can break the bones in your feet, so muay thai ppl use their shins more, which are also harder, is this better? also with this, the range is shorter i guess
The reason why taekwondo uses the foot to attack is because,it has a longer range and during that few seconds of time or length , they can quickly think of other offensive kicks to attack the opponent or whether to dodge it..studies has shown that the leg is as twice powerfull as using the hands but also it depends on each individual bone structure..the more you trained the harder your bones get..same goes for karate masters..they can break stacks of bricks with one hand
as for muay thai it uses close range attack but also gives a huge blow..however it depends on the skill of the fighter..if he/she knows whats the human weakness points.
You can't harden the small bones of the instep of your foot. Once your foot hits with full force something hard - like an elbow - there's a good chance you are going to break it. Shinbone, on the other hand, won't break unless you start kicking rocks. But taekwondo practitioners wouldn't know that. They have their hands down and relaxed, so they don't have to worry about kicking an elbow used to block a roundhose, like you do in muay thai. Beautiful way of showing how the sport spoils the art...
Kicking an elbow, hurts BAD and stuns you for a while, you learn a block like that in Muay Thai? That's pretty badass... But, in tournaments you often catch an elbow with a kick so..
Bullshit. Of course you can harden the bones in your foot. These bones are actually ones of the densest bones of the entire body. I can kick through a stool leg with my instep.
Art: the outward expression of the human mind through varying means. It's impossible to "spoil art." Please learn about these things before speaking. It is also a fact that your instep will get harder. You've also mistaken TKD as solely a sport. That is also incorrect. You're on the internet, information data base. It's as easy as looking it up.
when my opponent used this kick i excute back kick and my ass get kicked by his knee nad that was very hurt
