  • I'm glad I'm not the only that noticed how BAD the Entreat Plus versions of the songs are

  • I Still have this Tape!!!lol

  • With all of the technology available to us today, isn't it amazing how much music is ruined by terrible mixes and mastering? You'd expect shoddy quality like this to be a thing of the past, not something prevalent in the year 2010. Proper mixing and mastering of great songs only enhance their appeal and musical pleasure. Unfortunately, this is a horrible remix of a classic.

  • It's hard to believe, but Entreat Plus sounds worse than 4:13 Dream! That's quite a hard feat, considering that 4:13 Dream is compressed all the way to hell and is, without question, the worse sounding studio album the Cure has ever released.

  • Sounds like complete crap!!!

Not sure which is worse. The completely lifeless Entreat+ or the incredibly distorted 4:13 Dream.

The version of World War that appears on the deluxe version of TIB also sounds VERY crappy in comparison to the version from the West German cd pressing of Boy's Don't Cry.

I think I'm going to rip all of the tracks I like off of the 2nd disc in each deluxe set, and then sell them off to fund re-purchasing of the original non-remastered single discs.

  • Well, well, the old Robert screw it all.. once again...

Since Boris left the band more and more bad decisions came out from the good old Bob.

It all began when Jason was hired. From that point on, everything went downhill more and more and more.

Cure fans: Don't preorder In Orange or Show DVD before listening how it sounds!

  • Boris Williams' drums sound ultra-compressed in the 2009 mix.

  • IFoughtTheLaw369, I don't think everyone had it in their heads to make Entreat Plus worse than the original. People assumed the quality would have been almost identical to the original, tacked on with the four additional songs. They didn't expect Robert to pull a historic revisionism of the disc and make it sound like shit. I hate saying that, because I love the Cure, but Entreat Plus sounds like shit. If someone thinks it sounds good, you either have a bad system or your hearing is shot, sorry.

  • Sure, there are differences, both good and bad. It seems to me people only get more mad about it when close comparisons are done that, on a normal day of listening to music, you wouldn't do. I understand the point of doing this & all, but when people already have it in their heads that they expect something to be worse than the original, they make it their mission to point out the flaws and say "See, I told you so!" At the end of the day, we have a 3 disc reissue with the missing entreat tracks!

  • @IFoughtTheLaw369

Well, it depends on the person for one thing. Fans of the orig. album will no doubt notice the difference during casual listening. Also, I remember Cure fans were drooling over this expanded Entreat but were apprehensive due to it being remixed. The problem is that they messed with the recording too much. The difference, at least to me, is astounding. The original sounds like a clean, well recorded live recording. The new one sounds like a squashed soundboard recording.

  • @IFoughtTheLaw369

Prior to purchasing the Disintegration deluxe, I had never had "Entreat" at all. I was pretty excited about it to be honest, because it contained the missing live songs. I popped it in the CD player, and mostly skimmed around. I didn't like it at all, it didn't sound like a live album. I've never listened to it since the night I bought it. Since then, I've burned onto a CD-R the streaming "Live in Dallas" gig which sounds a hell of a lot better.

  • yes, but you only get the complete recording through the new remaster..so...

  • Original Entreat = clear separation of instruments

    New Entreat = muddied mess

  • the old one is much better... its more clear to me... not that curtain of sound, that they use to produce since somewhere 2000....

  • Hey, the music is still utterly amazing though.

  • @jamesstafforduk that is out of discussion here.

The new Entreat is a piece of shhhhhht and Robert must keep himself apart from the mixing board the next time!

  • Let's face it, the new mix is very inferior to the original one. This new mix is very typical of the Cure sound since 2004 or so. This is the sound of someone who has lost his ear, and/or has no good producer to help him and firmly correct his mistakes. Dave Allen was such a producer.

Fortunately we can stick to the original 1989 mix and ignore the whole Entreat Plus failure.

  • @JYFJYF

Thing is, the 1989 mix does not have Plainsong...my favourte song ever.

  • robert smith did the remasters digitally and the final mastering was done by kevin metcalfe who has an impeccable mastering catalog. a final master is only as good as it's source so if anyone is to blame for the sound quality, it is robert. 'sound quality' itself, is subjective. you can listen to entreat + on a decent pair of headphones and hear it differently on a good car stereo system i.e louder bass. today. it sounds to me the new masters were designed for systems with built in bass eqs

  • @kva416 although the new cure albums sound like shit soundwise (way too many mids, not clear at all if too loud), it's hard to tell if any other person doing a remaster of Entreat would do things differently. I compare this to listening to Let it Be Naked for the first time (songs without orchestra). It's different, but there's nothing there that wasn't there before. Hopefully, if you know what I mean.

  • at first i didn't think it was that bad. but the more i listen to them side by side, the more i dislike the new one. i really miss the drums.

it's certainly not unbearable. any live cure is pleasant to my ears. but there was a lot more potential to really make the album sound like true live prayer tour cure.

  • I don't like that the drums are so loud in the 1989 mix, though the vocals seem clearer.

Also, you kind of hurt your case after the 3 minute mark by switching back and forth every few seconds; it makes it very hard to compare after that point, especially during "Close Down".

  • @Muldfeld

I don't have a problem with the drums, or anything in the 1989 mix. Why? Because that is EXACTLY how the Cure sounded in 1989 on the Prayer Tour. Robert biased the 2009 mix towards the "2009 live Cure sound" which pales in comparison to the Prayer and Wish tours. There's people out there who defend and claim that the 2009 mix is superior when it's NOT. The 2009 mix contains squashed dynamics. The original Entreat's dynamic range reached up to the high heavens!

  • The Entreat Plus mix sounds like it was mixed through a Sony boombox. The original Entreat sounds like it was mixed on and for quality hi-fi speakers.

  • New Entreat+ SUCKS SUCK SUCKS 1000 TIMES!!!!

The original from 1990 sounds way better .. I thought that with the new improved technology Entreat+ will sound superb but it didn't happen.

FUCK THE PERSON WHO MIXED ENTREAT PLUS! FUCK YOU IDIOT!

  • mm facebook changed "my" preferences and youtube now "knows" when one's logged in to FB so you dont have to log-in to post in youtube.. everything is so "connected" nowadays and i work with it so it should not be a surprise for me but anyway, Cure music must be preserved, vinyls wont last forever i dont like mp3 but this sound way better to the original in terms of textures and instruments that were there (guitar parts for example). iwas about to sell my vinyls but i definetley wont thanks.

  • haha, we are comparing the mixes on YouTube! oh, XXI century...

  • the 2009 mix is horrible!
