Excellent project Jay, and really appreciated your discussion of the 'name that grey' :-). I actually tried raw JN grey on my 22" cutaway and found it way too green. I'll be working towards a lighter shade when I get it back on the bench.
@Talos1963 Thanks! I admit the color may not work for every Trek builder, but I liked it. Adding white to it certainly helped to take the sting out of the green, but of course I don't plan to necessarily use the same formula on EVERY TOS ship I do (many, but not all). Most important thing is if a color works for you, go for it. Others can say what they want, but you'll have to live with your result of course. So do what feels right. :)
@JMChladek I think youre colour choice is great, but like you, I dislike mixing, so I tried an experiment with the untouched JN which is just too green on it's own. The grey tone you have achieved looks 'spot on' from where I'm sitting! It's certainly the colour I'll be shooting for when I go back to the 22" for real.
@TrekWorks Thanks. You've got the best eye for that since you can mix colors a lot easier than I can (and do it rather well). Right now I've got a gloss coat drying on the model as I got the detail paint done tonight. Then, some light weathering and decal work can begin.
@smsno1 LOL, true. But those two ships were from TNG, not TOS. Pegasus might be cool, but there wasn't much left of the Yamato (just a glowing hulk of a saucer section). :)
