So true. The Wilsons all wanted to move foreward. Mike wanted to drill the oldies into the ground. Oh well. Guess in their own way they have kept the Beach Boys in the public eye enough to where 3 or 4 generations in, they are still loved! Brian's music and Van's and others' lyrics are truly what will be remembered in the distant future, though. Sail on, Beach Boys. Sure would love to see Blondie at a 50th reunion with the boys. :o)
Thanks for posting this version of the great Beach Boys classic. The sheet music for the original piano part on "Sail On Sailor" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
Blondie Chaplin is awesome in this video. Too bad that the Beach Boys decided to take the tact of being an oldies show. Sail on Sailor is a fine example of what the Beach Boys offered before they went back to the don't f with the formula routine. AGAIN!
Writers of the song: Brian Wilson, Van Dyke Parks, Tandyn Almer, Ray Kennedy, and Jack Rieley. Great versions: Sean Lennon, Darious Rocker & M. Sweet. Blondie and Ricky Fataar contributed to the BBs re-surgeance as a great in concert band, without forgetting Carl Wilson whose contribution was outstanding.
@ROCKSTARCRANE blondie chaplin was briefly a beach boy and rick danko was previously in the band, both of whom were renowned for singing more than decent haromies, ironically enough.
@hippocles: Blondie used to wow the crowd when he sang lead on 'Wild Honey'. The only original Beach Boy with an excellent voice is Al Jardine. His solo album, Postcard from California' is great and it came out just the other year. Great guests on the album are musicians like Stephen Stills. 'Don't Fight the Sea' is technically considered the last real Beach Boys song. Al sounds like he's in his twenties.

Lead is great. Harmony sucks. They are no Beach boys, that's for sure.
