  • 0:17 killer lick

  • ...shock over what I just saw. Great player!

  • One person should never have this much power. what the hell just happened!? I think I'm still in

  • He sure keeps himself busy

  • Lol! I bet he could take on livedify.

Sorry but that was a pretty thoughtless post.

Any good player would know just how tough this is.

    Damn fine job!

  • i'll bet you 10 to 1 he couldn't take on stochello rosenburg,or paco de lucia,or john mclaughlin,allthough he's quick,he doesen't have the 'romance' that they have.5 out of 10,i'd say!!

  • @livedify I didn't know 'romance' was measurable. I give your opinion 2 out of 10!

  • My first lesson with scotty is soon.... let's just say im a little excited ;)

  • thats to all the vulgar comments.

  • if thats true tell me where the greatest tasting water in the world is

  • I saw both live...both great pickers! Don't bother to argue who's better just sit back and let your jaw drop...enjoy the talent!

  • this is my schools fight song

  • This is the best playing ~in this style~ I've heard. This guy is definitely among the best in the world... Wow! I love it.

  • Congratulations. Excellent.

  • I come back to this time and time again... This is absolutely one of the best guitar performances I've ever heard!

  • That is amazingly redneck and jazzy and I love it!!!!!!

  • My 300th like most certainly was for sparta on this one....Oh yeah, that movie sucks... Unlike Scotty Anderson... Or spartans.

  • Close your eyes and just listen..sounds like he's playing two guitars at once. A true artist if there ever was one!

  • @sherilynn1963 that's because there are two guitars playing

  • Sure gets around that fret board. More notes on that damned instrument than I thought there were. have to go back and have another look!

  • no no no! Tommy Emmanuel is the genius!

  • Hey all you motherfuckers-shut the fuck up and just enjoy the great music!

  • This is great! Definitely one of the best I've heard! Check out "Ben Prestage - Are You From Dixie" here on Youtube.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!! this is fucking insane!!! almost incomprehensible.

  • This isn't the Scotty Anderson that I have saw on here....Maybe J.R?

  • @rda3fan This footage is from the early 90's

  • This guy has abilities I haven't dared to dream of.

  • Hey ass holes just the fuck up and play your guitar. a million players brought guitar to the level it is today..... Not just a handful as suggested by so many of you dorks! its part of our human consciousness .Its like saying who is the most "perfect human" in the world, there is no such thing cause every human has to take a shit and we shit in fresh water .So perfection is a human construct and the universe does not give a good god damn!!!

  • @magmajet Hells yes! Well said yo.

  • all i got to say is o my lord ...

  • 2:20 - 2:25 O_O amazing...

  • @ZapperJet

Scotty has survived without the commercial exposure that has been given to TE.

Both play a niche style of guitar with they excel at and are recognised for.

  • I thought he played a mean guitar!

  • Scott Anderson did a few gtr clinics at Reliable Music, Charlotte, NC in the 80s...and each time he just walked in grabbed a gtr, made sure the strings were new...and then just played...no warmup, nothing....he aint human. First time I heard this tune...He was affiliated w Yamaha..and the rep, was this 60 ish old gtr player...Chuck...cant remember his last name...but a really fine fellow and he accompanied Scotty on a few tunes.

  • Scotty vs Frank Vignola is a more suitable comparison.

  • i think we have here, ladies and gents, is the Eddie Van Halen of Bluegrass. DUDE!

  • Yeah, comparing musicians like they're fucking baseball players, real intelligent. I'll settle this shit with 2 names - LENNY BREAU (in despair of comparrison).

  • MY OH MY! I dig in his SIX-FRET stretch on just a simple Yamaha APX....WOW factor indeedy!

  • STRONGLY agree with relativetruth102 here - as a matter of fact, BOTH Tommy and Scotty are TRUE-BLUE SHOWMEN in their own right, so why argue when their clips get added into my own favorites' attic? Chill, folks!

  • Wow. I'd say this fella vs Tommy E. has some credibility. Modern day post-country fingerpickers. Tommy seems to lean more towards that rested, big chord sound with some insanity blended in. This guy follows the upbeat Django style tempo with great improv.

  • @Darreltwittle

I wonder why Tommy played 'Lady Madonna' and 'Day Tripper'on Mountain Stage,

unfortunatley neither tune has the fire power to survive amongst the usual musical heavies that appear on the show.

Bad selection for the venue I would say.

  • Awesome! You can tell he practiced that song a few times. lol

  • Nice! No backup band required!

  • Comment removed

  • you most likely won't hear nicer playing than this, go man go

  • Don't forger the looper pedal being used here folks !

  • @gazmoid I have personally know Scott for 20+ years and have been playing gigs for the last 15 years. Don't insult the man by leading people to think he uses a looping device. The ONLY pedal he uses is a Ibanez reverb unit. This is from the 80's when Scott used to do clinics for Yamaha. The is another guy playing with him by the name of Chuck Thompson who has sinced passed away.

  • @formula351

Hi, does Scotty play anywhere on a regular basis??

  • FUCK. Greatest guitar player I ever heard in my life.

  • skill and skill and a little more skill.

  • simply fantastic

  • Just gotta say again, I've heard alllll the guitarists out there, and some are amazing, but Scotty is the very best.

  • Just gotta say again, I've heard alllll the guitarists out there, and some are amazing, but Scotty is the very best.

  • Just like today...back then to ...Scotty never ran outta' lick to play for any song.

  • This, like everything else, may be coming to and end. Kids today think this style of guitar is gay. They prefer guitar hero (lol) They certainly wouldn't be willing to put in the years of dedication to get this good.

  • You gotta be joking??? This COULD NOT suck ass more than it does.

  • @SeeburgMusic

Oh... Seeburg. Someday, grasshopper -- someday -- you will wake up and suddenly realize that you know more today than you did yesterday. And you will feel such relief without your head so firmly up your arse. Patience, grasshopper -- patience.

  • Horrible? This easily takes more skill than most people alive have. Then couple that with self-accompaniment with the thumb and an unoffensive rhythm (opinion), and factor in that it is not un-musical to any extent of the imagination. I just don't see how someone could say this was "horrible" unless they actively hated fantastic guitar playing, which makes little sense to me.

  • @SeeburgMusic you're a complete moron.

  • Amazing! On those fast melodic runs, is he playing through scales?

  • @mpm1985 no he plays around chords. I take lessons from him, and trust me i asked.

  • I wanna take a lesson from him too. How do I do that?

    Cheers,

    Izzy

  • that's like a 50 year old blind man staring at the sun setting over the pacific ocean for the very first time.

    vast and overwhelmingly awesome.

  • Yes, love to see Scotty and Tommy E. tour together!

  • @davidrobinsonmagic

Provided Scotty selected what to play;he has a natural affinity with what tunes suits guitar.

Tommy has a few problems here.

  • This Scotty Anderson is one haul-ass lick-meister !

  • Come to Cincinnati..you can see him.

  • i'd like to see what he and tommy emmanuel could do together.

  • supposed to be singing. very trashy

  • impresionante

  • Woww, give it a break. what was that? too good

  • What makes me laugh is the security pass he's wearing , Scotty needing to wear a pass ha ha ha ha , seriously though i agree with all, this vid is amazing.I've been watching everything i can find of Johnny Hiland he's right up there with the greats

  • Ok folks I'd give Tommy E. a 10....and Scotty a 15!!! He blows everyone away...sort of like Lenny Breau.

  • now i belive in god

  • this guy is fu.. good!!! amazing!

  • Scotty never ceases to blow me away. This is out of this world.

  • This is one of the best acoustic vids you are gonna find....bar none

  • comparing tommy emanuel to scotty anderson is like apples to oranges. they have two different, amazing styles all together. besides that, scotty is nonstop guitar. tommy is more of a showman. however, if i HAD to pick, i'd say scotty anderson is far more skilled. despite that, tommy emanuel is still absolutely amazing and a lot of fun to watch. i really don't think it is something worth arguing about tho. they are both inhuman.

  • yeah I'm pretty sure they're both aliens.

  • comparing tommy emanuel to scotty anderson

Socotty is 10 and Tommy is 11-1 to.Its all ...!

  • @relativetruth102 more skilled than tommy? no one is more skilled than tommy.. remember that my friend

  • @MrCold768 Tommy is a very, very skilled player. Berili Lagrene is more skilled than Tommy, at least that's what Tommy says. Scotty is also a very, very skilled player, and a very humble gentleman.

  • @relativetruth102 Very diplomatic. Scotty is on a completely different level than Emanuel both as a musician and an improvisor. This is not an insult to Emanuel.

  • Heard tommy emmanual, no one holds a candle to scotty

  • holy shit.....

    amazing!

  • I've been playing for nearly 40 years, heard them all, and Scotty Anderson is by far the best i've ever heard. so articulate, blindingly fast, clear, and clean. i don't think you could program a computer to play that well, and even if you could, you'd lose the inventiveness. Awesome and Unbelievable.

  • Then u dont know tommy emmanuel...

  • Yes, TE is a favorite....but really i don't think tommy or birelli or Al D , or Bret Mason could touch this version.....they are all fantastic in their own way....for my money Scotty owns this song

  • Comment removed

  • Well, that's it folks! I quit!

    lol...seriously, though, that was ridiculous.

  • It is my life's mission to play this half as well as Scotty...Can I; only years will tell...

  • Georgiaboy1961 i don't agree DG was as versatile as an egg checkout Gallaghers 88 or Licks & Tricks part 4 being one of my favs . To say DG was no Scotty is crazy , i love Scotty i love DG , when you reach their level i don't think it's right to say one is better i just watch in awe

  • he was on fire

  • Man, you're not kidding that Scotty and Tommy Emmanuel together would be totally insane! Chet Atkins would laugh his head off.

  • Scotty is without peer playing this kind of music. I love Danny Gatton as much as anyone, but DG if he was alive, would have told you he was not Scotty!

By the way, Johnny Hiland can cope much of Danny's stuff note-for-note, and plays in his own wonderful style, too.

  • Hell, that boy can play!!!! Never heard of him till now. Thank God for the Tube. Will check him out. Thanks for posting. And he would be great with Tommy Emmanuell &, maybe, Richard Smith.

  • Heard about this guy like 18 years ago, never heard him till these YouTube vids started showing up. Scotty is a treasure, wow!

  • imagine this guy jam with tommy e. :) would be sweet

  • Maybe he'll show up at CAAS this year. Tommy will be there.

  • i'm sorry, what is CAAS? hehe, i don't know :)

  • Google "Chet Atkins Appreciation Society"

There is a 4-day convention every July in Nashville.

The most insane non-stop fingerstyle party on the planet.

Workshops, concerts, etc. If you play fingerstyle guitar, don't die without going to CAAS at least once. Even of you don't play, you will be blown away by the talent that's there.

There's a bunch of videos out here from past CAAS conventions...

  • oh, i see, thanks! sounds like a lot of fun! yeah, i'm a fingerstyle player but i live in zagreb (croatia, europe) so i don't think i'll be going to nashville any time soon (i'm a student so right now i don't have the time nor the money). but in future (after i get my degree), i'll definitely drop by because i've already heard that nashville is the place to be if you want to hear some of the coolest cats!

  • Dixie Eastridge of Big Mo records told me that in thinking about doing a Danny Gatton tribute concert only Scotty could play Danny's parts...that's a small club indeed! With Danny gone, Scotty and Brent Mason are "the Man!"

  • Anyone who would give this a low rating could only be jealous that they don't have lightning for fingers...

  • None better, simply the best, Scotty!! World's best right hand, too!

  • B"H Yes, I am from Dixie, and this guy is smokin'

  • He's not only damn fast - there are a lot of fast players - but what he plays always remain extremely musical.

  • thts just amazing!!!!

  • And just think, this was taken about 25 years ago. That rhythm player ain't no slouch. Great video!

  • this is the first time I have ever seen or heard of Scotty Anderson, and I just became a life long fan

  • yea i gotta change, wow.

  • damn I just pooped my pants!!

Someone stop this guy before he has a heart attack!

  • great picker...sadly, only 58000 views!!! he has a new jazz oriented dvd available from his website....search engine optimization should bring more traffic to his vids? He deserves more attention from guitarists and the public in general....Chet on steroids... Would love to hear him trade licks with Birelli lagrene....see Scotty and ADELSTICK link at his website really cranking out the sounds!

  • Holy freakin' mole! Someone get a fire extinguisher. I swear, I thought I saw smoke coming off his fretboard a couple of times!

  • es un crack

  • Amazing !

  • bloody amazing

  • Good Grief! Go, Scotty!

  • Bum note 2min 33secs ,makes him human , ha ha

  • Probably just a bad recording - he's an alien for sure

  • Not a bum note a lil dead one,hes really amazing Scotty is.GOOOOOOOOOOOOO Scotteeeeee...

  • Fabulous playing. Reminds me of Danny Gatton - with thumb and finger picks :)

  • HaHa if someone thinks they can play like this can they email me...I have to see to believe it....

  • Unreal

  • Great

  • Great video*****

  • Great playing. Thank you for sharing this video.Shirley

  • WOW!

  • BRAVO !!! AMAZING,

  • BRILLIANT !!!!! AMAZING, BRAVO

  • guitar players in need of humility, step right up and get a big dose of it....blazing chops but also taste....it's too smooth sometimes?

  • Scotty is just fabulous - surely one of the most amazing and creative players on the planet. I absolutely LOVE his playing. 10 stars!!!

  • One of the most virtuoso performances on youtube. This is truly brilliant. There's a lot of different styles reflected here; and he can play them all very well and in time. Just brilliant.

  • sundaynightdrunk This Yamaha 1985 Clinic has to be the absoulte prime of Scotty Anderson. Does anybody have early 80's footage of Scotty??? mastercollector

  • omg hahah i cant believe Ive never heard of this guy...this is incredible, wow

  • i agree with nippercooney because in my oppion you would have to be the best in each style of music acoustic and electric country jazz rock etc... to be the best no one has done that lol so i just have a lot of favorites

  • Prove it.

  • Mastercollector if you've studied more than most you must have spotted a second guitar on this clip just pleying like a choppy kind of rythm . To mention the players i like most is who do i leave out because this page is'nt big enough , i know where your comming from with DG but different styles & different era's make it hard to say he's the best , just enjoy

  • Mastercollector , there you go again, you must be the best guitar player in the world, post a video of yourself playing so we can all judge you

  • nipperooney no I suck at guitar; a frusturated rythm player at best. I just have studied, watched, and listened to alot of guitar greats since 1969. I don't mean to compare or argue. Theres lots of people that voice their opinions on youtube. I guess thats the way I am. Believe me;if I had the money and with Holly Gattons help I would help distribute something to all you guys then no more talking would be necessary.

  • MC: I loved DG, and dig his stuff to this day, but he was no Scotty Anderson... no one is! There's not another person alive who is doing what Scotty is, as well as he is doing it. DG would have agreed, too.

  • Mastercollector, there you go again you always know someone better, if your qualified to say who is the best, it must be you , post a video of yourself playing so we can judge

  • I'm a huge gatton fan, but I've gotta agree with niperooney. Everyone hates a critic.

  • scarface197605 like Ralph Kramden said 'I got a BIG MOUTH"; oh well all I can say is watch these 3 shows; no explanation is needed: 88 Gallaghers, 88 Club Soda, and 88 Birchmere. And the player is Danny,

  • OK OK no offence meant. I would give full respect to anyone who's really into danny gatton and scotty anderson anyway. So fair play to ya.

  • scarface Thanks; all you guys are right. We should like them all. I met Scotty and he signed the headstock on my guitar. Scotty loved Gatton and told me they were soul brothers. They both seemed a little shy and just wanted to play without all the other distractions. My dream jam would be Danny, Lenny, and Scotty.mastercollector

  • ripperooney no I'm the worst player in the world, wish I was better but I'm not. By the way what players do you like nipperooney? Am I the only one, there's tons of guys who voice their opinions. All I'm saying is I've studied players in depth probably more than most.

  • puh-LEEEZE nothing but 5's ....

  • uhh.... uuhhh... your like the man

  • I don't want to scare you but that was just his warm up!!

Didn't you notice the 'missed note' at 02:33?

  • You have to be kidding!!!!

  • smorgdonkey even gatton, breau, wes; everybody misses notes but the technique is second to none along with Breau, and Montgomery but Danny Gatton is the most thriling and spectacular player ever and it isn't even close. mastercollector

  • Guys...I WAS kidding...incredible playing. I thought that it would be obvious that the 'missed note' thing was for HAWs!!

  • Thanks. I hate my guitar.

  • Holy shit holy shit

  • Holy Shit indeed!!

Every time i look at this wonderful site it brings me something i would never have believed if even my most trusted of musical compadres had told me...

But this tops them all. Truly.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!! I'm going right now to sell my Ric and Tele. I am a rabid fan of Jerry Reed, Thom Bresh, Buster B.Jones(my hero), but God Almighty, I have never heard anyone with that blaze and fluid picking as Scotty. Wellll he's at the top of my heros GREAT!!!!!!

  • Amazing !

  • Love it so much , its so hard to compare him & Danny Gatton , on a different style checkout Adam Fulara , well worth a look

  • I think this song has been removed from the guitar repertoire by Mr Anderson....nobody is going to match this version....nobody!

  • 646879 agree, most perfect technically ever, but Lenny Breau is a better guitar player., the things he does piano to guitar and everything going on is better. And the most thrilling improvisation and spectacular player ever is Danny Gatton hands down!!! mastercollector

  • hey "mastercollector", my friend Nipperooney tells me you're looking for a new name....how about Knob Jockey?

  • 88 Gallaghers, 88 CLub Soda, & 88 Birchmere

  • whatever

  • where? on youtube? I just heard a final cut of Scotty Anderson's soon to be released cd and I assure you it will turn some ears Scotty's way....I do want to listen to more Gatton, but i have not been impressed with some of the stuff I see on youtube...very competent, yes...entertaining,yes....but the "bestest?"...weeeellllll Was Art Tatum better than Oscar Peterson? Too close to call that i think...

  • 646879 Unfortunately the best Gatton clips are not on youtube. The real good ones on youtube are Gallaghers, Redneck Jazz Explosion, Redneck Jazz, and Sleepwalk but trust me if it were LEGAL there would be other clips on youtube that would be truly mind boggling!!! mastercollector

  • Scotty did a few clinics at Reliable Music, Charlotte, NC with a cool older Yamaha rep, playing comp chords. Scotty is the most amazing player I've ever seen. I have some board tapes that are just stupid good.

  • I adore your guitar playing! I love to play this song on the piano. Check out my youtubes sometime. Thanks, Allen Dale. My youtube ID is allendale1962

  • If you really want to think you've died and gone to Heaven, you should hear Scotty, his two brothers, and his Uncle Dillard play together. About the only time that happens tho is when they play at one of the benefits for some fellow musician down on his luck. They are very generous and caring people. So much talent in one family. Music has been the mainstay of their life for generations.

  • I worked with Scotty in the early 70's when I lived in Kentucky and he was just as amazing then. He has an uncle named Dillard that's just about as fantastic. You should hear them when they get together and jam.

  • Your style is a little bit of Wes Paul and Chet Atkins in a way. I perform Are You From Dixie alot on the piano. It is my second most requested song next to Down Yonder. look me up on youtube as allendale62. Hope you'll enjoy my piano playing too. Sincerely, Allen Dale.
