  • Someone should reissue those T-strap shoes.

  • well, i never understand ppl who are still getting emotional when hearing to the 60s

  • @integral844 here is the reason, 60s music is real, today's music is shit

  • happy birthday, marianne, thanks for being so sweet to me! a real lady!

  • Like nearly all the comments on this performance. I think any attempts to analyse just why Marianne appealed to people are doomed to failure. No, she didn't have the greatest voice and no, she didn't put a lot of "performance" into it. The simple fact is that she just had that other-worldly character, that "x-factor", that certain something in her voice and demeanour that just amazed people, myself included. You just can't put your finger on it exactly. Thanks for posting.

  • You had to see her in person. Nothing like the b/w pictures. If you see her on 'Rock and Roll' circus THAT was the Marianne Faithfull. Jagger had the dress sent from H'Wood which belonged to Harlow but Marianne filled it out way more so.

  • I think she's good. But like Pattie Boyd said (who by the way, knows Marianne VERY well)

"I love Marianne. But Marianne is in love with herself."

I think she's a very natural singer, and is very pretty.

  • She had a WILD life, she'll be 65 at the end of this month...

  • @lakepurdy1,fully agree. She is really beautiful. Natural beauty.

  • I don't understand how people can call this awful singing... honestly ? So very beautiful.

  • @LadyPahukumaa I dont get it either. Whats awful is the noise that passes for music these days.

  • @thewillfulldreamer, I have to disagree. Sure, Joni Mitchell was great, and so was Nancy Sinatra, Petula Clark, Mary Travers and many other female singers from the good old days. But there are a number of young female singers these days whose music is also very creative, subtle, and musically interesting. Unfortunately, the djs seldom say who just sang that nicely arranged number he just played on the radio so I can't give you most of their names, but I can assure you that they are out there.

  • @handyman1017 Maybe so. Maybe its just my personal preference getting in the way but a lot of the mainstream music I hear today on the radio just sounds like a bunch of yelling to me. But I am open to any unknown singers out there who actually have talent.

  • she was so beautiful....

  • somehow this wasn't her day

  • We'll soon be children again. Then SULKY ADULTS! Then we'll ride the spheres! Then...

  • @GordonMorrice Forgot to say I love the song! Silly me!

  • Worst performance--ever. A trained monkey could do better.

  • @cecilnbeany

And im sure you are a very well trained one at that, but can you sing?

  • Saw her at a club in the Sixties. Without a doubt- to this day- the most beautiful woman I ever saw! She stopped all talk when she walked in a place! Had a very luminous quality and was not at all stuck-up. Very sweet. I'll never forget her.

  • @lakepurdy1 Was she hi?

  • cute as pie!!

  • im 56 and had ne idea who sang this song, or working class hero...she was good, but drugs and drinking will ruin you eventually....still an attractive woman, and she deserves applause!! We are not here to judge, just enjoy music

  • I was a teenager at this time and I remember the only reason she made it on tv was her association with Jagger. She is good looking but her singing is awful and she never wrote a song.

  • only watching this because of her appearance in a metallica vid

  • Amazing what she did with Metalica....

  • Marianne was so it back then I was so in love wiht her! She had a beautiful voice! She was the coolest of the supercool british chicks back then! You got to rememeber she had really never preformed in front of a crowd or on TV! She was so cute and so talented too bad she didn't continue on!

  • Huh. She sorta looks like Masters from House. Also, this song, as performed by Rolling Stones, was IN House (at the end of the best season).

  • Is it possible for any of you men to resist the lure of hormones?

  • love the eyes

  • How sad durgs suck. She was a puppet. Sad

  • she's givin'em that drunk look...

  • @asdf36254 and looks it

  • aw eppy you are adorable! i love his voice

  • Comment removed

  • Gorgeous!!

  • That is so lovely. I really like the slow pace of the editing and her just sat there.

  • This video is just awesome. Brian and Marianne both look so terrified and awkward! Marianne is such an underrated treasure, and Brian left us all far too soon.

  • So cute.

  • There's something about her in this video... I can't put my finger on it. Beautiful, sexy, classy, cute, you name it, she had it! And that soothing voice, it just hits the spot. I'll take this over Lady Gaga any day of the week.

  • I sat next to her on a 65 show called Tuesday Rendezvous and another 5 o'clock Club. Sadly I don't think any footage AT ALL o f those shows exist which is a great shame but I remember it as if it were yesterday and yes I still love this song as much as when I first heard her sing it. :) ... Oh Wembley Southern Studios btw if anyone 's interested - where LWT are now I believe.

  • @Mancunian6 She smelled nice? :)

  • @zrtgvbnjkop are you asking me or telling me? :D

  • This has been my favorite song since childhood!

  • iv read that JPJ from zep did the arrangments for the original version of this.is it true???

  • so sad yet so sweet

  • Oh the pure voice she had before the drugs made her sound like a drag queen.

  • what a cutie pie

  • Whose idea was it to get Epstein to sit on the corner of the set like that in those tight trousers? Painful!

  • @38dragoon38 But Hot!

  • Boy are you people dumb and naïve. Born in 1946, 19 at the time of this show. Never sang before. Didn't have to sing well to make the record. First song composed by the Glimmer Twins. May have had a live audience, most likely not. She's scared shitless. It's playback. She has to mouth the lyrics, then do exactly *nothing* through the instrumental yet not give the game away. Maybe took several takes. Passion? She's very sweet, very polite, very British. But she's a deer in headlights. Get a clue.

  • @SumnerMurrayRedstone I am somewhere in that audience and yes, she did mime both songs.

  • She seems so sweet, knowing what life held in store for her makes me feel a little sad.

  • Great video, I love her voice.

  • A beautiful song sung with great passion.

  • I was 12 at the time and madly in love with Marianne Faithfull and Dusty Springfield.

  • echt gutes video jemand der ein nettes girl wie mich kennen lernen will

  • If we could turn back time, I'd like to be right there. We had such beautiful music,

so much better than today. Marianne is still going strong in spite of all her battles in life, she's a tough lady! Love you, Marianne!

  • She looks so sweet, beautiful, and such a voice. One of my favorites from years gone by.

  • interesting to see Brian Epstein in that situation. He looked a little awkward, but did a pretty good job.

  • She(Marianne) looked tense.

  • I know it's the limit of the 60's performing art and video tech.

But the trailer shouldn't be called music video.

It's like my new Buzz Lightyear toy robot : the whole body was freezed execept for the lips.

Not much better than a pure soundtrack

  • I love Brian Epstein. He was such a pivotal person to the cultural revolution, but he's so under-appreciated. His life was so tragic, if he'd only been able to stick it out another couple of years, things would have been so different. </3

  • She has a wonderful voice.

  • @JoeandNickareccute11 Yes, and she still has a wonderful voice somehow. :)

  • I remember t-straps.

  • Mr. Brian Ep-STINE! :p

  • great song! ...great cute girl...destroyed once again by the selfish glimmer twins!

those bastards run over everyone they can when they want there way! I guess thats why they hated Brian Jones so bad he had there number for sure!

  • Its a good song, a good video, she's a nice singer. But its uncomfortable watching someone so petrified by stage fright.

  • She was the mysterious naked girl, wrapped in the bear skin rug when Jagger/ Richards got busted for pot in circa 1967

  • Your song, "As Tears Go By," was always my favorite when I was in school, and now, years later, I will always remember this song and your lovely voice, Marianne!! I used to sit and listen to you singing this song over and over again!!

  • What an amazing time to be young !!!!

So glad I was alive then...even though I was only 9 in 1965..the memories are strong and vivid...and being a teen in the 70's...wow...what an amazing time for music..!!!!

  • @lampang3 You are right! I was 13.

  • Quiet Restraint,,,love the hair..she never moves!!!

  • Wow the refrence ability of the Internet neever cesis to amaze me. I heared this beautiful song on the oldies radio. The female voice is beautiful, and it doesn't sound quite like Karen Carpenter. Then I noticed the song, and I am positve that the Rolling Stones did it too. I reasearched on the internet about this, and found this video. Now I know that the singer is Marianne faithful. She looks gorgeous, and she can sing.

  • Sexy and can sing!

  • Amazing!

  • mhbin so einsam heute wäre echt klasse falls sich jemand finden würde der mit mir schreiben will

  • nice choreography!

  • she always had that smacked out look at this stage - beautiful :) I hate that they have taken down "something better" from the rollin stones rock n roll circus

  • I LOOOOOOVE THIS SONG!!! both versiiions!;)

  • lip synced or not her voice is beautiful and this song moves me every time

  • She looked either stoned or so disdainful of the lip-synching that she acted like a zombie.

  • Badda Boom:

    It's the heroin.

  • Blimey, she's totally expressionless while she sings. She was/is an extremely intelligent person, I wonder if she presented herself this way deliberately for the performance.

  • @BaddaBigBoom Well if you read her autobiography, she wrote that she was petrified and also as a reaction to the "dolly girls shaking their money makers",Marianne sat or stood still.Must've also been the serious singing in her Catholic school's choir too.You don't exactly dance then,LOL!

  • @BaddaBigBoom Yes, it was her gimmick, it stood out because everyone else was trying to be so animated.

  • Gee, JUST LIKE REAL LIFE. All the female pop stars of that era were whores for at least one of the men. You young women have the right idea, make your own history, don't copy us!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Eppy, you left us too soon.

  • @thewayilook2night

    His choice, unfortunately.

  • @thewayilook2night A true visionary who should be given his rightful place in the R&R Hall of Fame...

  • @thewayilook2night

I second that emotion! He was a genius in his field!

    :)

  • @thewayilook2night wasn't he the beatles manager?

  • @m1kewithaone Yes, the same

  • @Psicobeatle oh ok, thanks, man he's young here. well i guess we all were back then. heh, heh. i think it's amazing the contrast between her and mary weiss. the only thing moving here is one little foot in that pretty black shoe shes wearing, where as mary weiss and the shangri las, is just spewing sex all over the place, ..... :D

  • Sweet ;)

  • Gosh shes so beautiful!!

  • It is lip synced-in her autobiography Marianne mention she did lots and lots of televison where she just lip-synced.

  • got it marianne ... still lovin' your song +VOICE ... as ..... go by

  • Brian was into drugs too, wasn't he?

  • Rolling Stones singing it is better

  • @virginiaxvita This version is good, but a little fast! I agree with you, Stones version is better! Please Virgina, try to hear a group from Azores Islands named- Os Sombras- and tell me latter, what do you think about! Check on Youtube. Bye.

  • Haunting, haunting, haunting...This and The Seekers "The Carnival is Over"...

  • this is lip-synced.

  • no its something about delay on youtube videos - they're all the same

  • But it sounds just like the single, and how can she truely sing seated that way? And there is no microphone. I think it is lip-sinced.

  • On reflection you could be right. Normally everything was done live in those days. The first syncing cam with the Black and White minstrel shows - quite late. As far as I know it wasn't normal to mime

  • OM, Brian looked so Young and Together..

    Marianne Faithfull was Totally Brill!

  • she's damn hot. I wish I'm Jagger and had her as girlfriend

  • @TininSkywithDiamonds but dude, nothing moves but her eyes, don't you think there's something wrong with that picture? i'm sure i could find you something better oh ya, george harrisons girlfriend!

  • @TininSkywithDiamonds You should see her today at age 67

  • This is Music with a capital M!!!

  • the jagger version is better...

  • she said she was nervous.

  • No contrived theatrical, synthesized, stageshow BS here. What you see is what you get. Grandeur in simplicity. After

45 years that haunting oboe's opening bars still sends shivers down my spine. Better times-better days. Love live the 60's.

  • This is my first English song in 1968........Thankyou.(Singapore)

  • She looks like she's afraid that if she moves the hunters are gonna shoot her.

  • I guess Dave is only Myrtle on the weekend, or is it the other way around?

  • Dave here. I wish more American women's voices would drop instead of sounding perpetually like 6-year-olds. Britney Spears, take note. The girl pictured in the subscribe box, upper right, resembles Judith Durham of the Seekers.

More American, adult women should have

voices like Julie London or Candace Bergen, or Oprah, yes, or Cher.

  • And on the studio version of this song, the one and only James Patrick Page (Jimmy) was the session guitarist...

  • 思ったよりあまり可愛くないなあ

    つけまつげ落ちてるし

  • She was only 17, of course she's nervous

  • Did you see Brian Epstein?!

  • she was very shy!! lol

  • She's nervous.

  • My cousin married her :P

  • He didn't make it a comment after she said "Perhaps I have let's sell it" My goodness she was honest! LOL.

  • she was beautiful, she must have been a heavy smoker too, her voice is so raspy and hoarse now.

  • deathtouch100. Got news for you, although Faithful did just about everything, your voice changes regardless. Take Cher, she never smoked or drank, and her voice dropped several keys. Do you still sound the same as when you were 16? I doubt it.

  • @playandbepaid...Yes! That was it. I looked it up since your comment, and apparently it was also known as 'Naked Under Leather' Small wonder, with those looks, I was mesmerised as a fifteen year old!

  • Triocha the film was "A girl on a Motorcycle" or motorbike...informative at a young age he he

  • how many of her songs were written by jagger and richards??? i swear i heard one on desert island discs this weekend, anyone have any idea which one that was???

  • It's good, but I heard Mick's version first, and I'm not used to the fast pace. Just doesn't sound right.

  • She was dirty and she only time taked drugs

  • Sad to think that the pretty young Marianne here had no idea what s**t she was going to go through in her life. Epstein is another sad figure too really.

  • Thing is... I love the voice and presence she has today!

  • Gorgeous Marianne!!

  • Wow, how gorgeous she was, a truly iconic figure from 60's London, a good voice too in those days. I fantasized over her often as a teenager, she was in a movie where she wore a leather jump suit zipped down to....well, quite low. it may have been pre internet porn, but it sufficed, that's all I'm saying! Sad to see her go downhill after that with the drugs/Jagger/mars bars era, even living rough at one stage. Still, I'd like to remember her like this, thanks for uploading.

  • i love the way she talks too

  • She was the case of too much too soon, a lovely voice and at 16 she admits she was scared stiff which is why she looks so as if she has no stage presense.

She had a lot of talent which was her voice.

  • What a different world we live in now. I was one year old when she did this show. It's hard to image that I actually lived in those times.

  • It's ironic that the Stones have the more mellow version.

  • Lovely lady with a voice that matched her looks.

  • she is so beautiful, there is nothing like that these days

  • Ya. They all look like whores now.

  • NOT THE F WORD WHO THE FUCK SAYS FUCK

  • @MagicMaureen46:

So everything has to be nice, sweet and dandy in this world? Wish that were true, but life is tough on sweet 16 year old girls. She grew up the hard way, and survived. She still is a very nice person, and be honest, if she stayed like this she would look silly now, being over sixty, wouldn't she?

  • great song thanks for posting

  • légèrement coincé quand mm ...

  • what is ppl?

  • Good God was she hot. But her stage presence was awfully weak.

  • hey jezebel are you bipolar?

  • Lovely, dear, handsome Brian,

what a nice person you was,

what's a pity that you're not with us.

  • She's nice and talented girl

  • Beautiful woman, beautiful voice

  • most openly comment on Faithfull's demons and astonishing survival following this era. what about him? he was dead 2 years later

  • I thought she looked Great!!! Exactly like I remember a beautiful young girl looked like at that time!!!

  • she's perfect!!!

    on the White House lawn;)

  • I remember seeing this on TV. She was absolutely scared to death during this performance. She wasn't ready for fame. She was only 18. The years haven't been good to her but she is still performing and she has a following. BTW she looked awful here; she was actually quite beautiful. Look at the pictures of her on her first 2 albums.

  • sad song... but so is life...

  • Apparently, Iseult charms no-one

  • I think she's very pretty and sweet.

Until you-tube I didn't know there were so many truly wicked and evil people in the world. Hard hearted and cruel.

  • @robie0788 they are just words. easy to write harsh words on a computer screen. don't take them in if they are hurtful. god bless you.

  • Comment removed

  • She really wasn't very good at first, but she didn't half develop later.

  • I love Brians voice :-* Sweet Brian, thank you for the Beatles! You'll never be forgotten as long a I live :)

  • Woah Brian Epstein.

  • Though I love her singing, Mick Jagger's girl seems drugged up in this one!

  • poor cow.

  • very true. but i think we aren't surprised.
