  • This and Manhattan Transfer (for the female voice) - superior!!

  • one of the true classics from the world of oldies

  • Le Kingston Trio ont été considérés comme des rebelles dans leur journée ... intéressante ..

  • I hadn`t heard this in years.......so much better than i remembered!!!!!

  • To all of those who think that some other person/group sings this song better than Bob Shane, I say "it ain't so" This is a Kingston Trio song original, and the master version. I read that even Frank Sinatra refrained from recording it because he considered it "already sung."

  • OMG. I LOVE THIS.

  • I love it. Kurt Holm, are you out there?

  • I've been sober for over eleven years now. But when I was on one of my many benders, this was song that kept me feeding the jute box. Great song. Great Group!

    Sorely missed.

  • this is for the Oldsters out there who in our minds are still young and back in the 60's listening to this on our 8 track stero's!

  • Sorry, but Henry Thome's version of this on Viv is far superior.

  • @udaone4me Sorry, but no one has ever sung this better than Bob Shane.

  • The Kingston Trio were considered rebels of their day. And they are still so cool.

  • I was in LA and in this very nice Cocktail Lounge and this guy sitting next to me requested this song (Scotch & Soda) from the Lounges Piano Player. Wow! sounded just like this song, it was so good that he got a standing oviation and he played it again. The kicker was it was the first time he sang it, he said he heard the song on a LA radio Station and always sang along with the words on the radio, but never attempted to sing it live until that day. We were Lucky!

  • Try Asian women **busizz4me.info**

  • TO RONNIE SALINES,WHERE EVER YOU ARE.HE USE TO SING THIS SONG TO ME.THX RONNIE 4 THE GOOD MEMORIES

  • I'm 19 years old, and I love this song. It's actual music as compared to all this computer generated nonsense that takes no understanding of music to produce.

  • @mint285e Thank God a few people our age still get it.

  • @qwpu A lot of people our age listen to real music actually, I think with all the access we get from the internet nowadays it's easier for people to learn about music from the past.

  • What a song! I loved it the first time I heard it over 50 years ago and it hits me exactly the same now. Timeless music.

  • @TheRockinRelic Not to nit-pick, but the song wasn't released until the spring of 1962. But regardless of the year, I agree with your "timeless" comment.

  • @vandywilliam Your right. I remember very well when it came out. The Lion Sleeps Tonight came out around the same time.

  • @TheRockinRelic I agree

  • One of the very few songs I would sing karaoke... Heard it since I was a wee child... One of my favorites..

  • Yeah man! This one just gets better every time I hear it. A love song that is timeless.

  • Out of curiosity, does anyone remember this on the jukebox in Brady Commons at U. Missouri? It was on the box at least through 1976, by far the oldest tune on the machine. When I visited again in the mid-80s, it was gone. Tragic!

  • So can anybody else hear Morrissey's vocal style in this? It's pretty easy to imagine him singing this song.

  • I've loved this song and the Kingston Trio since the early 60's. They are incomparable even today.

  • totally agree, reminds me of my husband when we had just met back in those wonderful sixties, use to play on the jukebox that was at the table at the bar he worked at as a bartender called Cristyle Pistol in San Antonio, I would go in and he would take me to a table and he would give me a bunch of change and I played it over and over, was married 36 years until he passed away of prostate cancer, just makes me cry hearing this song.

  • @scristanti

I'm sorry for your loss. Sounds like you had some wonderful times together!

  • I ilke Bob eventhough Manhattan transfer did it beautifully in the late 1970s. thanks for posting the video.

  • Knew it was love,,, dancing with my future husband to this on (OBX) Buoy 9's jukebox.

  • Long live Bob Shane; understated elegance.

  • Nice to see you in the neighborhood - nice neighborhood, too!

  • My Favorite song of all time...Love It! Thanks for sharing....brings back the good old days of yore.

  • It simply does not get any better than this! (Music for adults: Know what I'm sayin'?)

  • No argument from these 2 old pharts!

  • @expenguin67 True dat; my only question was whether the one "NO" vote was an error. If not, HOW does one 'dislike' it :)

  • @expenguin67

Can't agree with you more...this was my favourite Kingston Trio song (and it's not easy having a favourite, is it?) from the time I first heard it...before high school. lol! What a great song and what a perfect delivery! Bob Shane's the best.

  • @expenguin67KingstonTrio are not for adults only,Nirvana ,with the teenage angst and depression is for kids only, adults listen to Nirvana for about 3 songs and theyve had enuff ...If you look at folk music KingstonTrio were hugely successful with kids during their touring days. Now I luv Nirvana, great songwriter Cobain but ,I will listen to a Nirvana album about once evry 2 months ,Kingston Trio you can listen to evryday `cos the music is about 'evryday' life(an luv).Encino is so b itchin` .Theyv

  • @expenguin67 Know exactly what you're saying!!! Have been a fan of the Trio since the late 50's (Thank you mom & dad!!!).

  • Many tried, but no one can do this song like Bob Shane.

  • My daughter sent this to me, remembering how much I loved this song. How did she remember this ager 40 years. I love you Vicki. Mummy

  • nice. lovely comment (; have fun with the song

  • This one of my favorite songs in the world <3 my grandmother used to play it to me when I was little and it still makes me cry

  • Saw these guys in Tulsa --1965 ..

was the first time I heard this song, still love it.

  • This was one of my favorite songs when I was in college in the 60's. Brings back great memories!

  • College in the '60s and you're still alive? OMG! I was in college in the '60s, too - and I don't think I've ever felt better.....

  • We don't get older we get better. I'm healthy and happy and love all 50's music. I especially love Joan Baez and the Weavers.

  • I was in college in the 60's but can't remember a darned thing. If you remember the 60's you weren't there!!

  • @stillleenie18

LOL!!! Those were the days, eh? I have some vague memories of the '60s and college, but they're mostly about the parties - and every now and then, I recall something I learned.

I must have learned something along the way. I'm still alive and not homeless - yet!

  • For sure!!!!

  • i was 4 when this song cameout. and i still love it. thanks for playin this -oldie but goodie. a real lost 45.

  • It was never a 45. It was on their first album!

  • @lessammi

This was released in 1962 on a 45, Capitol 4740.

  • I'm in the zone with this song!

  • I love this ballad because it takes me

HIGHER THAN A KITE CAN FLY!

  • The original KT was so good due to Dave Guard's genius. He arranged this song, Bob Shane on vocals and Nick Shane on bass. Wow. I believe this first came out on either the "KT At Large" or the album just titled KT.

  • Do you recall the Kingston Trio doing "The First Time Ever," or was that another folk group. I swear to god that I heard it first as a folk song, long before Roberta Flack's version.

And, yes, I was madly in love with all of them....

    Sallie

  • You are correct - the KT first did this song. I believe it was the KT with Dave Guard.

  • THey did the song with John Stewart in 62 on The New Frontier album

  • The Trio recorded "The First Time Ever," ten years before Roberta Flack. So did The Chad Mitchell Trio

  • And they did a much better version. Great as Flack is, her version is like molasses.

  • that song is just perfect in every way. when they came up with that song, that's when they realized that they were artistic genusis!

  • I LOVE the sound of an acoustic bass. So much richer and fuller sound than electric.

  • You've made me so happy with this. Thanks.

  • This is real music! Words, rhyme, celebration of life, and romance.

  • The Kingston Trio has a much-revamped lineup nowadays, but they still put on a good show, and this is one of the best songs on their current performances.

  • grea song,great memories

  • Bob Shane sure had a fine voice. Didn't hurt that he looked better than most movie stars!

Only after I matured did I appreciate this performance!
