  • @Orca40 I thought so at first. I thought the second season was full of bs artsy fartsy stuff.

But when i saw the episode about the woman who needed to replace her spine, and wanted to jump over the border to join her lover, like the third time i saw it, i realized there really was a story that was really engaging actually.

Im not bluffing, im not trying to say im holier than thou and idiots wont like it, im smart bla bla, etc..

the third time i saw that episode i realized it was really good.

  • Peter never lost control. He was given time to do full episodes which gave him more time to express his ideas and concepts in the stories he wanted to tell. Add in dialog and it becomes more complex. On the surface or to people watching for visual value it seems less intriguing, but to those who understand the intent of the project in the first place it becomes more complex and leaves more for interputation. Something that can be viewed many times and still be enjoyed.

  • you say that as if comic books were some sort of inferior artform, peter chung is really influenced by many comic book artists, like Moebius...

  • wow... he was really choking out there...

    very principled and self absorbed

although it's probably why aeon flux was so awesome

  • I find the girl introducing Chung very cute and funny.

  • The difference between Peter Chung and most Animators is that Peter's work has absolutely nothing to do with comic books. Peter is a film-maker. His art-form is more about cinematic story-telling and less about illustration-based storytelling. So when you see Aeon Flux or the "ANIMATRIX" remember that you are watching a film and not just a cartoon of some sort. Peter is a true storyteller and should be thought of as such. As you can probably tell, I am a big fan of his.

  • @Rcinch1...

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with comics...

    That's silly.

  • @Rcinch1...

"...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with comics..."?

    That's silly.

Comics predate animation, and thanks to the genius efforts of pioneering cartoonist/animator Winsor McCay filmmakers like Peter Chung are able to tell their stories.

So when you post on YouTube, remember that everybody who worked on those films you enjoyed referred back to the STORYBOARD all during production... and be jealous because THOSE are comics YOU will never get to read.

  • @Rcinch1

You're delusional, your ignorance insults yourself.

  • @Rcinch1 me too

  • @Rcinch1 "Not just a cartoon". WHile I'm down w/ the whole idea of animation just being another way to tell a story like anime generally does, saying "not just a cartoon" is a putdown on animation, the very thing you and me don't want people to do to Peter's work. Just wanted to point that out. Second of all, comics in it's purest form is cinematic storytelling at it's finest and certainly not confined to dimensions like movies and tv are.

  • @Rcinch1 thats just semantics, you dont want chung's work to be associated with the word cartoon bc its supposed to be for kids or whatever, and same with comics bc its nerdy. Also you call it a film which is supposed to be high brow.

But also agree with you in the fact that what chung tries to do is justify the medium he is using, or go deep into the medium itself as a way of story telling.
