  • I get what you mean, 888. But I'm talking about recreational drugs. I'm not thrilled with prescription drugs either and do my very best to avoid them whenever I can!

  • Does anyone remember the PSA with the sad music in the background and it showed loved ones disappearing in different scenes? (The idea was that drugs made them disappear/killed them). OMG that one totally broke my heart!!!!! And, like the Suzie one, it had a really serious narrator with a great speaking voice. I can't find it anywhere. But omg did it affect me!!!! *shudder* I remember being creeped out when I saw it and also soooo very sad...I literally cried to my aunt about it!

  • Omg I remember this PSA!!!! It's sad and scary!! I remember being frightened and crying from it when I saw it in the 80's as a child! Still gives me chills!! I tell you, some of the PSA commercials were GOOD (such as this one)! Granted, most were stupid, but there were some really good ones back then. I'll tell you one thing: I have never taken any drugs in my entire life, or for that matter even smoked a cigarette!!

  • @kittipride

You have never drank water, caffeine, or ate food?

  • when you say "no" to your kids about drugs, it usually just makes them want to do it more. you just have to tell them about the dangers and let them know that it's a continuum and that weed, for example, won't necessarily kill you, but it's all about avoiding excesses. same with alcohol. but telling your kids "DRUGS ARE BAD!!!" period, means they'll totally just be curious. i know i was.

  • @oxfordpictionary Plenty of parents tell their kids about the dangers. People do it anyway because it makes them feel good. You can't use logic.

  • There was something going on in Susie's head that was a lot worse than weed or crack if she jumped out the damn window. Do these morons do any research into drug abuse or do they just make up idiotic bullshit to scare the public away from cheap forms of leisure?

  • Was that a bong or a crack pipe? Cuz it looked kinda funny if its a bong and if its a crack pipe it looks about right.

  • This is the most heartbreaking one!

  • Ya say NO. No pills no powders if it comes from the ground it's probably ok

  • dont do drugs smoke weed.

  • that was meth not weed

  • Uhm...Did suzie drop her bong? XD. I like how they took her away in an ambulance. Apparently Suzie is the only person in the history of mankind that has died/and or been injured/ from weed...

  • @MrMaryJanes It was supposed to be a crack pipe, not a bong.

  • Comment removed

  • What do you know? They are sponsored by pharmacological, alcohol and tobacco companies.

  • WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED,it makes you crazy. See

  • Brought to you by Anheuser-Busch, Coors, and Big Pharma.

  • white lighter. totally explains her death. case closed.

  • Its a crack pipe people. Shes been smoking crack.

  • no, im pretty sure she died of an overdose of meth.

  • it would appear sh died of marijuana overdse. lol

  • Partnership for a drug free america is mostly funded by the pharmaceutical industries. The "Big Pharmas" are afraid that if we were to legalize non-addictive, helpful drugs like marijuana, MDMA, or LSD, they would be used to treat mental illnesses and pain instead of the "Big Pharma's" pills. This country is pretty much run by large corporations and they do not care about you, only how green your wallet is. So much corruption in this country.

  • Thats right, absolutely true. You should tell you kids about drugs, we need to rid the society deadly, super addictive drugs like marijuana, ecstasy and LSD. Drugs will kill you on your first go. You dont even have to take these drugs, if you look at them, you will surely die. Alcohol on the other hand is OK to use because it is taxed by the government. Did you know that Partnership for a Drug Free America is funded by alcohol companies? They obviously care for our health.

  • This video is right. Broken bongs can really be a serious hazard.

  • @Valadar917 it's a crack pipe

  • @johntrierweiler Why do you think that? They definitely make bongs that size, you know.

  • @Valadar917 it looks like one

  • @Valadar917 the burn marks around the bowl

  • @Valadar917 yeah, it's the number one cause of home accidents. Hahahahhahaha, ok maybe that's not as funny as I think it is

  • Just a quick fun fact for everyone. PSA is funded by tobacco companies. Last time I checked, cigs kill more people each year than any other legal or illegal substance. The fact that pretty much every statement made in any of these commercials is 80 percent bullshit and 20 percent horseshit is also a good reason to ignore these ads.

  • @tanksta0wns That doesn't look like a bong--it looks like a crack pipe or a crank pipe. And I think she dropped it before she died of an overdose.

  • tHer parents never told her the CIA imports cocaine into america and 9/11 was an evil plot so the CIA could control the opium fields in afghanistan

  • This one is so sad. :(

  • mostly those pipes like the one in the vid are used for crack, a normal meth pipe doesnt have a bowl its just a glass bubble with a hole in it and a stem shooting out where you put mouth.

Theres all kinds of ways to smoke crack and meth though.

  • She Was Freebasin Canola Oil

  • Your Body Is Your Own!!! YBIYO!! YBIYO!! YBIYO!! Spread the word!!

  • drug experimentation/use WILL NOT stop. all humans are drawn to experience altered states.

  • Pot doesn't kill. The government does.

  • bong without water+blowtorch=methpipe

    dumb bitch was smokin meth

  • Suzie now is selling her ass to support her drug habit!

  • So she died by smoking weed?

  • wth? how does she get sent to the hospital from smoking weed?? weed doesn't kill!!!

  • @JourdansKandyLand just because it's smoked through a bong doesnt make it weed homie...

  • They idea of drug-free America is a good idea, drugs should be free

  • lol!

  • @Mafiososupersikwitit you've got it right, it's drug-freedom, not "no drugs"

  • Nice FREE DRUGS

  • @Mafiososupersikwitit weed onlty should be free and totaly legal and the others should be even more illegal

  • I love how these ads are always targeted to affluent, middle-class white suburbanites, when drugs were a problem that had a much greater effect on people in the cities, the lower classes, and with minorities.

  • couldnt agree with u more

  • You are absolutely wrong. everyone from all classes do drugs. The only reason they are a problem is because minorities do them. Wake up and see the world. The reason Weed became legal was to make more reasons to put black people in jail. do some research

  • I never said drugs didn't affect people from all wakes of life, I just said they had a greater (negative) effect on inner-city minorities and the working classes. This is a fact.

Illicit drug use amongst blacks is at 10.1%, the highest % of any race.

The rate of drug use among the unemployed is over half that of people with full-time jobs.

Area-wise, Large Metropolitan areas have the highest % of users (8.5), with'Small Metropolitan' (ie, Pittsburgh) coming in second.

  • Also, I agree that part of the reason for criminalizing weed was to punish blacks (you meant to say ILLEGAL.)

However, if you look at more drug PSAs from the 80's, many of them talk only about crack. Though drugs do affect all races and classes, crack use was limited mostly to poorer, working classes (which, in the 1980's, meant more blacks.)

Yet, most of the people in the commercials (whether they are speaking to us, or are acting as the 'user' or someone affected by their use) are white.

  • The main exception? Drug dealers in these ads are ususally black.

All I am pointing out is how these ads do little more than to warn the middle-class about the 'evil' working-class users they will probably never encounter. The ads also try to justify the US's insanely long prison sentences for crack cocaine use (as opposed to other drugs, including powder.)

They are uninformative and serve only to pat their target audience on the back for being straight-laced. Do some research.

  • @zachmasterzach crack is wack lol but srsly crack is WAY worse than regular cocain....

  • was there ever a point to this ad? apart from being funny?

  • Shut the fuck up stupid commercial, cannabis can't kill anyone.

I think I said this already but im gonna say it agian.

  • may cause vomiting, dizzyness, loss of appetite, and in some cases death...but if you have a headache, depression, tooth ache, splinter, or small abrasion, consult your physician and ask him about the newest pharmaceutical breakthrough.... i think ill take my chances and burn one...thanks anyway...

  • AHA thats really authentic,

shed be the first to die from weed in the history of fucking eaaaarth.

  • She had a heart attack because she dropped her bong? I'm confused.

  • Oh my god what the fuck if this chick died from weed she'd be the first in history.

    Fucking idiots.

  • They say marijuana leads to other drugs. Truth is marijuana leads to shop class. I quit long ago, not because I didn't like it. I quit because I didn't want to try turning a coffee pot into a bong.

  • Its called buying a piece.

  • It leads to other drugs cause it's sold in an underground scene, with a lot of other drug dealers.

  • no most pot dealers deal strictly pot....

  • Yeah, but most pot dealers know people who deal harder shit. I could easily get some crack if I wanted to. But fuck that shit.

  • yeah i got you but yeah haha just goes to show...even though you can get it pot doesnt have any effect on whether you want it or not

  • the only thing my parents ever said to me about drugs was "stay out of the bathroom" I have never abused pharms. or anything beyonds shrooms. the 3 things I have used are shrooms, weed, and salvia. had my parents not said that I would most likely be the same though because of the people who I befriended.

  • way to keep it safe man

i havn't tried shrooms or salvia yet but i've been tryin to get a hold of shrooms for at least 6 months.

  • in my opinion:

    1. natural good (un-processed)

    2. processed bad (opiates, amphetamines, etc.)

    3. pharms good when used as directed

  • Ugggg see the anti-drug people give the information that all drugs are bad. Some drugs have beneficial uses A.K.A pharmacys so we know this is false.

The pot dealers give the information "Its natural so its good" , We know belladonna is natural but its components will kill you so we know this is false.

The amphetamine/pill/other dealers give the information all drugs can be bad, but it depends on how you use them. This the closest to the truth I have gotten.

    Stay cool

    --an97an ======

  • pot is a natural thing that won't hurt you...just like vegetables...natural from the ground...but harmless...not everything that is natural is harmless though....but pot is most definitely harmless

  • Marijuana is more carcinogenic then tobacco.

Even though people don't usually smoke weed 5X a day it is still more carcinogenic then tobacco.

    Sources:

    (Double-u,Double-u,Double-u ) (D0t) nida(d0t)nih(d0t)gov/infofacts/marijuana(d0t)html

    and

    oehha(d0t)ca(d0t)gov/Prop65/docs_state/mjcrnr061909(d0t)html

  • Those websites are from the government...of course their gonna say that marijuana is more unhealthy because they make laws against it, obviously they dont want it to be legal....secondly i smoke pot regularly (everyday for about a year now give or take about two weeks or so) and i mean common sense can tell you that pot smoke is way cleaner and smoother by the way it tastes....it tastes better and feels cleaner without a filter than cigarette smoke does with one

  • true that. pot smoke isn't processed either.

  • Governement studies show that marijuana is harmful...BUT EVERY OTHER STUDY DONE BY A NON GOVERNMENT FUNDED OR GOVERNMENT AFFILIATED COMPANY SHOWS ITS ACTUALLY BENEFICIAL. No need for caps but i felt like it :)

  • The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.

The new findings "were against our expectations," said Donald Tashkin of the University of California at Los Angeles, a pulmonologist who has studied marijuana for 30 years. "What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect."

  • keep tryin man the waits worth it....shrooms are fucking great youll gain a higher consciousness man like you'll finally realize what the fucks up with the world haha

  • Ha ha ha!!!

Rich white kids beware of crack!!!

Poor black kids feel free to ignore this message as it's authors clearly didn't intend it to be for you.

  • LMFAO haha.

  • EPIC patmathis EPIC

  • Thank you.

  • hah! i finally have found it. I've been looking for this ad for a while. Remember it from my childhood... left a hard impression on me, though I thought I remembered it being a bit more graphic, showing the girl's feet on the bedroom floor and a gurney being rolled from the house and into the ambulance.... oh well...

  • This ad just shows what happens when you are bad parents. I bet these groups don't advertise againt the use of pharmaceutical drugs, which is WAY more destructive than weed for instance.

  • Actually, 90% of their funds come from five companies:

    GlaxoSmithKlien-Pharmaceuticals

    Phizer-Pharmaceuticals

    Anheuser Busch-Budweiser, Michelob, etc

    R.J. Renolds-Camel, Pall Mall, etc

    Phillip Morris-Marlboro, Virginia Slims, etc

That's why the only ads you see are against weed which is the safest drug known to man

  • @coffeebuzzz I agree that it's important for parents to talk to their kids about drugs. Mine never thought to because I was so sheltered, but even as a young adult now, I wish they had.

  • @coffeebuzzz Not only that, prescription drugs are also within reach whereas Mary Jane (weed) is not always so easy to hide.

  • @coffeebuzzz Pharmacutical drugs kill more people than illegal drugs.

  • @DivineMoleculeDMT only because they're more easily accessible and less likely to land you in jail, therefore more frequently abused. the fact remains that pharmaceuticals are made to help you, or at worst do absolutely nothing, while recreational drugs make no such promises.

  • Is it just me or does SUzie look like a grown ass woman in one of the pictures? The one where she is smiling with her parents on either side of her? She looks to be in her 20s.

  • Does anyone have that one ad with the guy walking in circles going "I snort coke, so I work longer, so I can make more money, so I can buy more coke."? I thought that was a messed up commercial.

  • Do a search on "so i can do more coke". If you can't find it, retrojunk has it.

  • I remember this ad! it really disturbed me when I was a kid. But now that i'm older, i know that most teens don't go from mr/ms perfect to crackhead who od's, like susie. Still, sad commercial. I can imagine it's awful to lose a child to drugs

  • in another PDFA ad, a sad looking couple is told they cant have kids because the husband used to smoke pot.this is a direct contradiction both of the clinical evidence developed in nearly a century of cannabis studies and of the personal experiences of millions of americans who have smoked pot and borne perfectly healthy children.

  • the PDFA is a joke

  • how do you figure that?

  • well, do you remember a PDFA ad showing a train wreckage with a man saying Anyone who tells you that "marijuana is harmless" is lying, because hsi wife was killed in a train accident caused by marijuana. Let me know if you recall this ad or not,and i'll continue with what I have to say..

  • was this in 91'

  • probably,not sure.

to continue..what the man says in the ad is a COMPLETE contradiction to the direct sworn testimony of the engineer responsible for the disaster, who stated "this accident was not caused by marijuana." this ad delibratley ignores his admission of drinking alcohol, snacking, watching TV,generally failing to pay adequate attention to his job,and deliberatley jamming the train's safety equipment prior to the accident.yet for years, the PDFA ran this ad blaming the accident on pot.

  • So pot was blamed instead of negligence in terms of keeping the train running safely is what your trying to say?

  • in a nut shell, yes.what should've been blamed was alcohol and negligence and the PDFA is wrong for showing these ads which are full of skewed misinformation.they were asked many times to remove or correct Train Wreck ad,but instead wrongfully carried on with airing it for years.we should stop calling these PDFA comemrcials PSAs.cuz theyre not PSAs,theyre slickly packaged lies that misinform a public that deserves the truth

  • Your aboslutely right.

  • and that's why I feel the PDFA is a joke. not because they are anti-marijuana. but because they are misinforming the public and they are fully aware of it.

  • So it's all about the money, is what it comes down to.

  • yes,as is the whole war on drugs

  • wow the 1980 were really strong about anti-drug PSAs and this one was pretty sad.

  • Yeah, a large factor was how huge heroin and cocaine had become and crack cocaine. In fact, you could trace a lot of the anti-drug sentiment in the PDFA to how enormous crack became in the inner-city and it was really frightening how it was portrayed in the media.

  • is suzie dead?

  • I used to live across the street from Fraternity Row at my alma mater and saw scenes like the one at the 52-second mark of this commercial outside of my window on a regular basis - at least once a month, sometimes two or three times. guess which perfectly legal and very aggressively marketed drug the kid in the ambulance had "overdosed" on?

  • Triple C's?

  • alcohol?cigarrettes?caffeine?

  • suzie got on that hard young

  • poor suzie with her crackhead self. Did her parents see the warnning signs i mean they should't known about her stealing fitty dollars from them all the time. The changes of her apperance, the crack pipe in the bathroom and the crack rock all over her bedroom dresser. Shame on her parents for not helping her you idiots!

  • What's a crack pipe?

  • is that a pot pipe or crack pipe because pot wouldn't kill you. Fuck the tobacco companies.

  • probably a crack pipe

  • Hahahahahahaha,

I think they don't need drugs in the USA. If you watch this kind of crap you already know Americans are fucked in the head.

  • Does anyone have the link to the commercial from the 90s where the girl got pregnant because she got high or something? I think it was about how pot alters your judgement, and therefore makes you into a whore who gets knocked up while stoned... I just remember it being hilarious.

  • i like eggs

  • The guy doing the voiceover is John Walsh, isn't it? The guy who created America's Most Wanted.

  • Sounds more like Martin Sheen.

  • You're probably right. I don't remember Martin Sheen's voice that well.

  • really? Moons of Jupiter?

  • How sad...

  • since when do little white girls smoke crack?

  • Since one of Amercia's sweetheart posterchildren, Dana Plato, who started making crack-smoking fashionable.

  • Anyone know where I can find the link with the anti-drug ad that featured the gigantic needle? Shit gave me nightmares for weeks.

  • Was that the Syringe PSA from the Concerned Children's Advertisers? That's on here somewhere.

  • Last year prescription drugs killed 450 ,000 + people ! Last year 17,000 people died from chronic use of non steroidal anti inflamitory drugs (tylenol ) in America ! That means more people died in 2007 from Ibuprofen and Tylenol than Heroin and Cocaine ! That is a an actual statistic that can be verified ! I used the FBI and JAMA stats .

  • They did a study , heroine and alchohol had the same rate of addiction among people who began using ! Is alchohol that dangerous or is heroine that safe ?

  • neither tht study wasnt real

  • Um, yes her parents should have talked to Susie about drugs. But was Susie living under a rock? How could she not know that drugs kill, it was all over the place in the '80s!

Plus I think the parents should have taught Susie to have respect for herself and her body, and deal with her problems in other ways, not just that "drugs can kill." Because some people know that and do it anyway.

  • theyre all over the place in the 60s 70s 80s 90s and 2000s and not all drugs kill but many do

  • Abuse is no arguement against proper use. Suzie's parent should have taught her how to make rational decisions.

  • The PDFA's PSA's from the 1980's and 1990's are retired but can have a second life on Youtube.

  • PDFA should put all of their PSA's from the 1980's and 1990's up on Youtube. They likely won't work on this generation because it is so messed up but for those of us who grew up back then the PSA's were interesting and sometimes even scary.

  • the dancer psa is up now!!

  • I remember that commercial and boy did it give me shivers. It still does. And I do agree with the fact that these PSAs don't have the scare that they used to during the late 1980s and early 1990's.

  • Comment removed

  • The steroids ad? I thought that one was fairly recent.

  • Marijuana will send you to the hospital but there is not ONE SINGLE recorded death from smoking weed?

    Ok, THATS accurate.

  • Who the hell has ever had to go to the hospital because of marijuana? Maybe some newbie freaking out, that's all I could think of.

  • not true....weed use starts a chain reaction to further drug abuse.

  • Source: Your ass, 2006.

  • spoken like a truly ignorant asshole.

ask yourself this and I know its hard for someone like a addict such as yourself this:

how many pot smokers have only stuck to pot?

or ask any junkie like yourself, what was the first illegal drug they tried...

  • That was very ignorant comment I made but posting lies and calling me an addict(I've stopped smoking weed before for a job, no problems) is just as bad.

    Plus;

I've smoke weed, only weed. Never anything harder. My friends smoke weed, only weed.

And The DEA studies lie so their job.

  • i know a lot of people that haven't tried anything other than smoking weed. just because you haven't met any doesn't mean they don't exist. i hope you're also against alcohol, because that is a legal addicting substance that can actually lead to addiction, overdose and death.

  • I agree w/you,Lindsey...tabacco and alcohol are the true gateway drugs but now Rx abuse is rapidly overtaking them...and all three are legal..sad,isn't it?

  • but im not gonna lie i did do alot of other shit, but most kids i know dont, im basically done with it all now tho, like once every 2 months ill smoke because i get drug tested

  • ask them what the first LEGAL drug they tried was? oxy contin? alchohol? tobacco? coffee? and there are alot of pot heads who just stick with pot. like me!

  • well no shit they first tried weed because its the lowest, the whole gateway is common sense that they turned into somehting to make it seem bad, smoking weed doesnt lead to harder things, curiosity does and i tried dxm, alcohol, cigs, pain killers and wanted 2 do coke before i ever tried weed (no i realize coke is dumb and dont want to do it anymore never ended up tryin it)

  • LOL, shes going to the hospital from marijuana. (thats a bong, not a crackpipe dumbshit.)

  • hhahaha its funny cuz all the laid back parents i no their kids have more control and the ones who r all rly strict about drugs have the junk heads

  • what a waste of a bong

  • The first time I saw this back then, I thought I would see "Suzie" in the bathroom as the door slowly opened.

  • Is that Martin Sheen doing the voiceover? Sounds like him.

  • I noticed that PSAs aren't as powerful as they used to be back then. I remember one with the kid being hung like a puppet in a dark room smoking. Quite creepy.

  • I agree whole-heartedly.

  • I remember that one. It was something about peer pressure, and it said that when other kids tell you that pot is cool, "they're pulling your strings". At least I think that was it. I only saw it twice, and I wasn't able to watch it all the way through.

  • Yep, that's the one. Very eerie commercial.

  • I remember that one vividly too! I've actually started looking for that one.

BTW, in case this reply goes to the front, it's to a ten-month-old comment on a drug PSA about a puppet.

  • Yeah really. I wonder if it is on here yet. That one used to creep me out during Saturday morning cartoon times. I'll tell you what. I haven't done a single pleasure drug in my life.

  • I found it! I actually found that PSA while looking for something totally different. It's in "90's Kids Commercials Part II' by a user called "makomichiruyaten" The PSA starts at the one-minute mark.

  • THANK U i just watched it. i swear that commercial is practically the definition of creepy

  • Thanks a bunch.

*watches* After 16 years, it doesn't seem that scary. I had my eyes closed through half of it back then so it was really the music (I once described it as "carnival from hell") that did it for me.

  • Yeah, the music was actually one of the main reasons I remembered it so well. I'm still blown away by the fact I found it now entirely by chance.

  • Yes, because we all know the countless children that died from marajuana use. The numbers greatly outweigh that of alcohol, tobacco, and prescription drugs...

    O wait...

  • lol.

    Tobacco: 400,000

    Alchohol: 100,000

Legal drugs (OTC and Prescription): 20,000

    Pot: 0

  • OK? That's a crack pipe, son.

  • sad

  • Um, well, parents should learn that getting good grades and being the "all American girl", while important, isn't everything, heh.

  • This PSA is really sad. Make's me wonder if Suzie was actually a real person. Either way, this use to scare me as well as made me cry while watching afternoon cartoon's back in the days.

  • Deaths from legal drugs (U.S. per year) at doses used for prevention, diagnosis, or therapy: 106,000 Deaths from marijuana use: 0

  • This one isn't scary. You want scary?? Look up scary drug psa and look at the snake. THAT'S SCARY!!!

  • I feel for this girl. Both my children died after taking a hit of marijuana, their hearts stopped before their bongs even hit the ground.

  • This ones pretty good. But....Please if anyone has the "Nobody ever says I want to be a Junkie when I grow up" ballerina psa, please post it! Thats the one I remember best as being the scariest thing ever.
