Poor girl. That's probably the most severe crossbeak I've seen. I'm glad that she's got a devoted family to take care of her - she looks healthy and happy!
Tweaker definitely has "star quality." She seems to enjoy the attention and being on camera. Tweaker is without a doubt very cute and very, very special. I'm glad that she is so well loved and appreciated.
Can she preen by herself? I've heard some cross-beaked chickens can't and may have problems with parasites. Anyway, good for her that she's got such loving and caring humans :)
Chickens are EXTREMELY intelligent. Raising my flocks. I no longer eat chicken. lol And your bird is rare as is my bird. But Twist-It has yours beat by a landslide. I have pictures to show her beak. It's completely twisted around. She broke it as a Juvenile and by the time I saw it...The vet- 1,100 for the surgery and he could not guarantee her survival. So 3 years later she is happy and laying eggs. Usually it's the top beak that crooks and not the bottom.;)
I had a house chicken once! He was attacked by a raccoon before we got him. So his right wing was permanently damaged. We took him across America, his favorite place was Oregon coast and him most enjoyable dust bath was taken in yosemite.
I had a Chicken named Strudel-Do. Every morning he'd crow for you. His crow was not joyful, or pleasant. It sonded like someone choking a pheasant.
Lisa hand feeds him/her everyday. He would not survive otherwise. We think of him as a living miricle. He is a one in a trillion bird. We love him, and he lives in the house with us along with a lot of other animals. Most of our other 20+ chickens live outside.
One thing is very clear to me: animals are intelligent.
thats more disturbing then cute.
