Yes, I think you are confusing things like customs, with marriage in general. Dont middle eastern customs, and many, include the religion of Islam? I have many friends who are VERY oppressed TODAY because of this religion. I dont see this in Modern Christian marriages. Yes, even in my NATIVE past, we were married off before we had a chance to choose, but I dont see that in native spirituality. Our customs allow us to choose. You are confusing the definition of marriage with societal customs. Marriage is the union of 2 consenting, non-related, human adults of the opposite sex. Societal customs are how people behave in a society, and that is what you are referring to here, not the definition of marriage.
