  • Can we take the metro or something the Queen's day night at 22 pm from airport to downtown ? Thanks for your answer :)

  • The reason that queen Beatrix is celebrating her birthday on April 30th is because of the weather. January isn't a very good month to celebrate a huge party outside (cold, snow, etc.).

  • @dutchforn00bs

What is the majority of religion in the Netherlands? What's yours?

  • @Pollocketful I'm not religious, and neither are most Dutch people. The biggest religion is Christianity, both Catholic (south of the country) and Protestant (most of the north).

  • Come on Guys its just an excuse for another Holiday , He he

  • LOL Nederlanders zijn gek

  • Nice that you explain it all! Groeten van Brazil!

  • queen's day == party , who cares about the queen any more ... which is a good thing normal people never had they're day .

  • wat is your own channel???

  • @ninoboeing it's "lidespam" :)

  • Ok, that makes sense. Thanks

  • It just came to my mind that having a "vrijmarkt" on queen´s day - which is the

national feast day like 4th of July in the US or 14th of July in France - is very, very,

very dutch and it fits the country with it´s trade traditions quite well.Trade is more important than anything else in the Netherlands,so why shouldn´t it be done by everybody on

    the national feast day ?

  • @uwed100 oh, that is interesting! Never thought of it that way.

  • dutchmen never have king???

  • @EvanC0912 We've had 4 queen's in a row, but the next in line for the throne is a guy :)

  • @dutchforn00bs ooh i see.. that's why in my history textbooks (in colonial period chapters) there's only the names of queens of the netherlands. LOL.

  • that was pretty funny ;p groet je vriends (i hope it is correct) ;p

  • ...bin terug von mijn erst Nederlands training...hey hey...

  • You, boring? You don't seem boring from your videos! But I do like festivities, so a friend from Den Haag showed me queen's night there and queens day in amsterdam. Woooow! You're not boring, Canada is boring. It's kinda festive downtown lately because the city's hockey team is in the finals for the Stanley Cup, but it's the only time I have ever seen it like this. Nothing is a bigger deal than NHL hockey here (when we're winning). Not my thing though,

  • @alpine1080 Canada is awesome, not boring :D (I've only ever been to Alberta, though :p)

  • Why isn't the flag of the Netherlands orange?

  • @Robert21970 Well, that would sucks even more LOL

  • @Robert21970

The Prince's Flag (orange-white-blue) that was used during the Eighty Years War, was replaced by the red-white-blue flag in the French time. The red in the present flag will never become orange again, because the NSB used the Prince's Flag as their symbol.

  • KONINGINNEDAAAAG <3

  • if you ain't dutch you ain't much

  • Oh, I didn't know you still had a queen in the Netherlands! Wow, how uncultured and American am I?

  • Are you and your friends American? you live in holland but your english sounds typical american...

  • @jayshko Nope, we're Dutch :)

  • @dutchforn00bs do all dutch people speak english so well?

  • @jayshko No. All people speak some English, but most not this well I guess. I went to a bilingual (dutch/english) school & both girls in the video lived in north america for a couple of months :)

  • @dutchforn00bs I think he or she might be talking about the accents, which are so seamless. Compared to the "General American" English accent, there's a hint of something different about them that identifies them as foreign, but compared to the accents of many other non-native English speakers, they are remarkably easy to understand. I think it's because Dutch is one of the closest major language relatives to English (Scots and Frisian aren't quite "major"), meaning less pronunciation conflict.

  • @wicaco When saying languages are closely related this isn't ususally about the sounds and phonological rules of a language. So Dutch people understanding English grammar, or vocab easily might be attributed to the languages being closely related, but not necessarily the accents. Have you ever heard any with a strong Dutch accent speak? We have a lot of things in Dutch (eg devoicing of final consonants) that can make English hard for Dutch speakers to correctly pronounce :)

  • @dutchforn00bs So you guys are just really good, then! :) Come to think of it, there was an argumentative Dutch exchange student in a few of my government classes two years ago and he did have a very distinctive accent. I don't know how I forgot about him.

  • @wicaco I think the biggest difference between the NL and countries surrounding us is that we don't dub TV shows and movies when they're in foreign languages, but we subtitle :) The same is done in most (all?) Scandinavian countries, and they usually speak good English too :)

  • @dutchforn00bs

except for kids and teen shows even when they are live action

  • @jayshko Why should we speak in an english dialect, never. By the way it's the Netherlands not Holland

  • @jayshko People from the Netherlands tend to speak good enough English. It's one of Earth's many mysteries.

  • @RedKremlin17 It's kinda because Dutch, English and German are all three Germanic languages. Many words are the same, mean the same or are pronounced almost the same. Like the words 'that' for 'dat' or 'the' for 'de'. And because we dutchies use most of both languages, we pick them up much faster than French (no offense) people do.

  • @jayshko

a lot of non english speaking people pick up english and the accent in which to speak english by watching american television and movies and music, so they always have a US hint to it.

  • Hoi Lidewij!

I really enjoyed your videos, although I already knew all this :-) But as long as the "Mevrouw" in the Burger King Amersfoort starts to speak English with me although i ordered in Dutch, i guess there is still a lot to learn :-) For your other fans: Orange, because the Queens family is the Oranien-Nassau-Family - in Dutch: Oranje-Nassouw and 'oranje' means the colour orange too. Strange but true.

  • @rodeui2011 Hoi! Don't worry about the mevrouw at the Burger King.. most Dutch people love switching to English when they here an accent, even if it's barely there.. :D so it's probably not you. but us. xD.

    Fijne avonde gewenst, Bastian

  • Get ready for Queens' Day again !!

Best day of the year, National holiday :-)

  • HeeeeeeeeeeY My Birthday is on April 30 ^_^ yaaaaaayy :P

  • April 31 4'26 04.31 ?! :-)

  • I looked up the websites you listed. You are lucky to have such an awesome group of friends. How did they all come to speak English so well? Was it from listening to pop music? The Queen karaoke thing was hilarious LOL.

  • @hugstablebear :D:D Queen is awesome.

The English is mostly from TV and school, I guess. Nearly everyone in the Netherlands can speak some English.. Dutch people who are on the internet, however, have to know quite a lot of English (or, you know, we wouldn't understand). As for these friends specifically, one is an English major and both lived in an English speaking country for 4/5 months :)

  • I think I love koninginnedag!!!!!

  • I think I love koninginnedag!!!!!

  • and what if Queensday is on a sunday..? we move it to saterday! 0:)

    and without notice....

how sad being the queens mother: waking up on your birthday all excited, just to discover that everyone is in bed with such a hangover that that hangover even has an headache.. must suck missing your own party

  • @Vivalasandy Does not matter, her birthday is in Januari haha;-)

  • @Vivalasandy that from that comedian! (:

  • Nice video! You should defenetley do some more cultural stuff, maybe Sinterklaas too? Or something else :)

  • @mariesu92 yes. I'll definitely do one about sinterklaas.. I think around the start of December :)

  • great video, thanks.

  • great video.thank you

  • THIS IS SWEET!!!! When I visit, I'm going to around Queensday. Im learning Dutch right now and will not go to Nederland until I am pretty fluent. But this day sounds awesome!!! Perfect for gifts for people back hom. People in Holland arent that patriotic? Screw that. The read red white and blue!!! hup holland!!!

  • I'm really relieved Queensday was without any terroristic crap this year, too bad that 5 May was screwed up instead. :( Your English sounds pretty good, have you spent any time abroad? And where do you come from in the Netherlands, you sound a bit like you're from the Utrecht area. :) Groetjes uit Maastricht

  • @Auremin May 5th? What happened? I heard that it was super busy, but nothing bad happened, right?

I lived in Ireland for about 3 or 4 weeks.. but that is not much longer than a holiday xD And, well, you can probably tell from my accent that it's not very Irish xD I think that I learned my English mostly from YouTube.. and from school :)

I'm from Zwolle, actually ^_^ I think my Dutch doesn't really have a region-bound accent.

  • @dutchforn00bs No, basicly nothing really bad happened, just some weirdo screaming in the middle of the 2-minute-silence. As a consequence, people panicked and started running away from the guy (who was standing in the outer rings of the group) and a lot of people got trampled over and stepped upon in the panick. But still, it's just a sign that our society is really on-edge and that someone screaming is immediately interpreted as a 'terrorist attack'. Sucks!

  • @Auremin Oh, right, I heard about that (only because 3 of my friends were there), but that was may 4th! ;D

  • @dutchforn00bs Right! :D I wasn't paying attention. XD

  • @dutchforn00bs Oh and, Zwolle, I couldn't have guessed that. I basicly know a Rotterdam accent (because that's where I'm from myself), Limburg accent, Brabant accent, Amsterdam accent, Den Haag accent, Friesland and Groningen accents and then there is for me the 'Utrecht' accent, aka the 'normal' Dutch most people speak (which apparently can't be defined as 'Utrecht'). ;) You're right, it's not region-bound!

  • I will be studying in the Netherlands next spring semester, so I will be there for Queen's Day, which is exciting.

  • @thephoenixvera Oh, yes! Sanne told me about that :D When will you come here? :)

  • @dutchforn00bs Probably around late January until early May.

  • I was there this year it was AWSOME. I was in amsterdam city centre and i didnt see any sort of flea market there was just a massive party on the streets and in the canals, as you walk through the streets the music changes and theres djs on roof tops and honestly it was the biggest celebration i have ever seen and last year i was in belfast for saint patricks day and it was tiny compared to queens day.

  • @dutchforn00bs Geluksvogel ;)

  • thanks! sounds so fun! cant wait ro get there!

  • Yay Lianne!!!!

  • @princeword I'm feelin' teh love :p

  • amazing video ,,,,

can u give a brief idea about how is the political system in netherlands ruled ?

  • @gargoor I asked Lianne (she's also in this video) to make a video explaining that, because she knows a lot about it :) I don't actually know how it works exactly, that's why :D

  • omg dit is zo cool :D

  • Hoi Lidewij, I'm ATravelingman from twitter. That's some wicked cool Koninginnedah history... or should I say Herstory, lol.

  • @Travelinman777 haha, I'm glad you like it ;D I didn't know all that history stuff either, so.. yeah :D

  • What if we have a king? Kingsday? o.O

  • I can be a little dense sometimes, but why did Sanne say April 31st? Joke?

  • @74coneill That's just me being an idiot :p

  • @booksandquills You're no idiot, Sanne--simple mistake!

  • your videos are going to come in handy in a MONTH.

  • @chiquitabanana WOOPWOOP :D:D

  • wow i like ur way of celebrating this day. now i know when i should visit the netherlands. it should be on the Queens day!

  • @paj4ica May 5th is even more fun!! In my opinion.. it's our liberation day, and we have free music festivals all over the country :D

  • What is up with the orange? The flag is red white and blue, so how did orange factor in to all this? Did they just decide, "You know? I like orange." XD

  • @ehmkay The orange is a reference to our royal family. Their last name is "van Oranje" (I think xD) which means 'of orange', so, yeah, orange xD

  • Great videos, please keep making many more

  • @4lots Thank you <3 I will! :)

  • Queen's day sounds pretty awesome! I love the collab clips :D

  • @CosmicScaleFactor I love them too!! :)

  • about an hour ago I was thinking.... what exactly is queen's day? Thank you!

  • @7649460 Awesome! :D <3
