my god, that was terrible. don't distort the lines, that's the worst thing one could do to the art. Also, that long introduction at the beggining makes it boring to wait for the monologue,it's a little bit pompous. What's more - you do not say the lines but act, make effusive expressions, I advise you to take more concern about the lines, words, tone, pitch of the voice than making some kind of a performance out of classics. The most horrible thing is to uncunnily distort the original version.
@grazusrytas well have you seen other plays? and other versions of them? it cannot be perfect since this is not the time when it was made you don't know how it was performed back then so thin k about what you say next time before you hate on other peoples work.
@oscarcool40 yes, I have seen plenty of other plays. None make this terrible acting. It's words that are important, not jerking out in the scene. And I had thought well enough before I wrote. Perhaps you have some problems with assumptions about other people.
This is amazing! I've seen 4 or 5 versions of Hamlet on film, and none of them actually FELT these words. I thought about making a short film of 'To Be' myself, but this says everything in actions AND feelings that I wanted. Please, if Ned Jolliffe has a distributed version of his version of Hamlet, I would LOVE to see it! If not, then this short video is a GEM in itself!!!!!
I didn't see anything special in this video, other than the effort of the director. The acting, though not bad, was stock at best. There was almost no scansion, leaving this beautiful iambically pentametric soliloquy to be performed as prose (the biggest Shakespeare no-no), and most of the shots just felt too contrived and unmotivated. Not bad, but not great. Certainly better than many "to be" recanters on youtube.
I think there's two ways you can go with this scene. The way in the video, with Hamlet considering suicide, and Hamlet musing on the futility of life. The video is excellent acting, but I prefer the other way. Hamlet has not yet determined Claudius' guilt, and to kill himself now would be leaving the charge from the ghost unanswered. This is beautiful acting though.
I can see your point, but I disagree. I think that Hamlet's thoughts don't only apply to him, but rather, he ponders on why anyone exists at all. I find that to be much more poetic.
You`re exactly right. Hard to believe that, though delaying a spiritually-commanded murder of one man, he`d be so close as this to murdering the entire universe. It`s almost certainly contemplative, slightly grieving, with a note of dry irony. But yes, good acting. The other way is a challenge too though.
Very powerful, it emboddies the agony felt by the decision of plunging oneself into the purgatory of derision through raising ones sword in the desire for vengance...Beautiful, hope to see more from you....
wow... i just stumbled on this. I really liked it. The quality developed from allowing Hamlet to have this wonderful moment before the soliloquy really set the mood. Good work. I wish you the best.

I likle this a lot probably the best Hamlet solidoquy i've seen, very stylistic. You've really captured his emotional state and express it brilliantly, I think the choice of music helps though, the only criticism I could make is the continuity needs improvment and prehaps more variation of status to his surrounding could make it more visual but in essence great!
AMAZING! keep it up i would love to see you in a play.

yes, but the former is much more poetic than the later.

Excellent work. Really excellent. Not just the acting, though that was superb, but it was very well put together as film. Bravo.

It's not about Hamlet considering suicide. That would never happen. It is pure conjecture, Hamlet remains impotent.

personally, i think that "To be or not to be" is Hamlet debating whether or not to commit suicide. But i respect his opinion.

I didn't like it in all honesty.
it was ruined by repeating the "to be or not to be" and the "That is the question" parts.
