  • Loved this game as a kid

  • Neptune was such a PITA

  • The Jupiter boss always gave me the hardest time.

  • At 1:08 is the sugar apple or custard apple with a worm coming out of it. That's what I used to think of it as.

  • took me 7 years at least to beat this game on console

    oh that glorious run

  • Gyruss: Proof that Pluto is a planet! The eighth one!

(Probably during the odd part of its orbit.)

  • @PhazonOmega

    It was.

  • you can take out 2 of the space station heads with one rocket is they are right next to one another

  • Damn 0.0 I remember playing this back in Second Grade !!!

This Game owned back then !!!

  • I got past the 3rd sun on this game. more than once, favorite planet is jupiter.

also have the stand up arcade classic version, a few things are a little different but in that version, the sun is my favorite obstacle by far.

  • if they remade this youd start at neptune instead of pluto :]

  • My dad loved this, he couldnt stop until the end, and would talk shit to everything when he got blown up... this is sad to watch in a weird way.. a good weird way. helps you to remember our inner child is always there, you just gotta get it out to play

  • hha my dad always had names 4 the bosses...the 2nd one was the pearl necklace, the 5th one he called the golden crab

  • This is probably the best arcade port for the NES due to all the added features and over-the-top difficulty progression. I keep coming back every year or so to watch this video again. God knows I can't get all the way through the game but I have come close. It's been years but I think I made it to the final boss. Once. lol

  • you can kill 2 heads on the boss near by each other using ultimate.

  • At 3:00!

Man, this boss is an ASS if you fight him wrong.lol

  • I dont get it, after they kill you, your umm... the special attack that u have gets reduced to 1... how could he used 3 ?? maybe Im wrong, but I remember that everytime u died they took away all of your special attacks, and left u only 1..

  • Would you do the arcade version, too?

  • I'm still waiting for this game to get released on Virtual Console. Your boss fights are awesome! I could never get past the Golem by myself, but I was like 8 the last time I tried...

  • This game has very detailed graphics.

  • @ 3:28 It was impossible! to kill this B**stard without loosing one or two lives

  • this game is a lot of fun. I played it before, but I didn't beat yet.

  • A B Right Left, Right Left, Down Up Down Up Start = 30 men. basically the opposite code on contra.

  • sorry told you wrong. its right left right left down down up up B A Start. i think thats right

  • Last one is so hard to predict, I can understand you dying there :P

  • I had a lot of fun beating this game!

  • Screw it up? It's still fun and well done. It's not Nintendo's fault that they couldn't replicate the game exactly with limited 8-bit graphics..... : l

  • i kind of like the arcade version of this game better. Although this one is pretty good ,too.

  • oh yea, that "golem" was a BITCH to get past. i remember that

  • Why is Golem such a frustrating boss?

  • because it was a truly random boss. and because you actually had to be in the reach of his attacks to blast him.

  • i hated that slap happy brain jupiter boss...grr stage 19!

  • lol that's my fav boss in all the game :P

  • Great game! Great music, sound effects, gameplay and bosses!! This was my third game I got in '89!

  • Huh, for some reason...I died more on the second boss than on the Golem.

  • I think the best part of this game is knowing that mankind is the only one that could stop this evil douchebag but for some reason we have to start from Pluto =P

  • Hi Stafy. Do you have complete videos for the entire game which you played? I haven't seen any time attacks (speed runs) of Gyruss anywhere on the net so maybe you could post one.

  • weren't all of these bosses named after the planets?

  • I'm not actually sure on their names, but that'd be interesting.

  • No. The bosses were ruling the planets in the name of Genghis Khan, who was depicted in the beginning of the game according to the game's manual.

  • Genghis Khan?

  • Konami said it, not me.

  • Well, wasn't accusing you of anything, it just sounded funny to me, that's all.

  • I didn't say you were accusing anyone of anything.

  • Oh, I'm sorry

  • @Gicane yeah the boards were. It went from pluto to the Sun.
