@Slashe50 Both have their strengths and weaknesses the SH201 creates warmer pads, the GAIA more punchy leads and basses the SH 201 is 2 part multitimbral, the GAIA isn't, the SH-201 has 8 waveforms, the GAIA 21On the SH 201 two oscillators share a filter, on the GAIA, each oscillator hasits ovn filter and envelope generator, etc... In terms of options and routing flexibility they both are upstaged by the Alesis micron, which in turn does not have that amount of hands on real time controls
@LIGHTRONIX VA's have become pretty good, but there is one analog synth that destroys every other synthsizer: The A6 Andromeda by Alesis. To my ears it is the best synth ever built, it even blows the classics out of the water, one problem though, those things cost about 3000 bucks and production stopped last year....
Great price for all that power but NO CHORUS EFFECT. Roland makes the best chorus in the industry and did not put it on the Gaia. Maybe we will see it on the Super Gaia GT model in the future.
@mattsynth Matt there's totally chorus on the Gaia. It's in the Pitch Shifter part of the effects. OK, so you have different distortions, phasers, flangers, chorus, pitch shifter, delay, tap delay and reverb with different types, then low boost.
Distortion, Fuzz, Bit Crush, Flanger, Phaser, Pitch Shifter, Delay, Panning Delay, Reverb and Low-Boost... That's it...
And while it is a bit more polished, and have some nice new features compared to the SH-201, it has also lost some very nice features in the comparison. Infact they sound very much the same, and people knocking on 1 over the other is just the SH-201 being knocked on for not being analog, while people dont care the same with the Gaia.
@MarctheDarc Actually they don't sound the same, the SH 201 has a little more basic grit to it, the GAIA has more tonal clarity, especially on the top end. Ironically that clarity is the key to a good overdrive I really like the SH-201, but when it comes to overdrive/distortion the GAIA beats it hands down. For what its worth the SH 201 still makes very lush expansive pad sounds, you can't re create with a GAIA since it lacks the 4 osc Stacking capability.
@dudewhosaysarrh Ofc the Gaia beats the SH-201 in distortion as the Gaia has a distortion-effect and the 201 doesnt. But both oscillator and filter algorithms are the exact same, except the Gaia doesnt have the Feedback Oscillator, but "instead" they have added variations over the original algorithms which the SH-201 doesnt have. There's also changes in the LFO-structure that gives rise to differences, as well as the 2x2 vs 3 OSC-structure and the Gaias effects. But basicly they sound the same.
@MarctheDarc Well the sh 201 has an overdrive but its not very good ;) As to the oscillators and filters - at least to my ears they sound quite different. I currently have both machines in my studio, both hooked up to the same monitor system and I definitely hear a difference. When you take a simple sawtooth wave on one oscillator and set the filters to bypass you'll notice, that the SH201 sounds a little more hollow, the GAIA has a thicker sound and the filters behave differently
@mattsynth Yeah, they put flanger, phaser, pitch shift, lots of FX and plenty of room for it, but no.... It's possibly a deal breaker for me, that and 37-keys. I have a feeling they might be saving for v2 in the future to give people a reason to sell their v1's and pay for something new - who knows. I WOULD like to know if any pedal choruses are known to sound like a Juno's chorus, though. Any ideas, anyone?
I could see how newbies might find this a little boring but Richard is a modern pioneer in sound, he also knows how to get the most out of gear and software...if your interested in just pop leads watch another video.
me to i'm bald , maybe too much chemical in the shampoo now n these days or it genetic that;s why i listened to trance techno :))))))))))))))))

The Gaia is a pretty cool synth, much better than the SH-201 in respect that it's a digital SH. It sounds pretty good for what it's worth.

Everyone is bald now days. Has there been some kind of genetic shift since the 80's? What happened?

@dudewhosaysarrh The A6 was actual analog though, I don't think it should be compared with a $600 VA.

@Slashe50 I know that the andromeda is a full analogue, that's why I think it is the best polysynth ever built.

Is it really correct that GAIA has chorus?
I've never heard anyone say that before

@Gulielmi87 It does not have Chorus!

Yeah AND the SH-201 costs about the same as a GAIA, new. In a way, the Sh 201 appeals to me more.
