Because Achilles and Patroclus were actual lovers. Read 'The Iliad' by Homer.

I hate the way they change the story to get rid of the fact that Achilles was gay and Patroclus was his lover NOT his cousin!

@Pattypaddy Actually, in some versions he was not with Patroclus. Also, in some versions he was gay AND Patroclus was his cousin. Remember, back then it wasn't so unusual for first cousins to marry or be in relationships.
