  • I've got a 200 HP H.O Etec and I love it!

  • @malueg79 - If I remember correctly your motor is the V6 3.4 litre block...lot's of torque I'm thinking. I'll be trying out my V6 150HO this coming spring on my Glastron. Should be fun.

  • Sorry for the stupid question, but why is the engine so deep in the water when idle?

  • @NatK1981 - Good question...I've thought the same. Part of it is due to the perception based on the low profile of the motor being a V4. Part of it is the extra 90lbs over the 79 V4 which is in my other video. Check the profile on a Bass boat...still looks low. I think much of it is because of how they designed it to be a low profile motor. Fisherman gotta like that aspect. Go into the Evinrude website, look at the various boats with the V4 and I think you'll see what I'm referring to.

  • @Stromzilla Yes, maybe you're right. It looked strange to me because here in the mediterranean we don't use this kind of boats, due to the nature of the waves... most of the boats on the evinrude website would be useless in our sea. Different deadrise, different chine, different hull altogether. They are built mostly for oceanic waves (at least that's my opinion and I'm no expert).

  • Amsoil is the best!

  • thats sick! how many mph?

  • @myersjulian - I've had it up to 54 mph. Wait till you see it run with my new Evinrude 150 HO. I should be picking up the motor to bring home this coming Saturday. However, I won't be installing it until next spring. It should be quite the performer.

  • @Stromzilla Very Nice choice! Y

  • @Stromzilla Very Nice choice! You should see low 60's with that setup easily.... as i am sure you are aware. Had a 1983 cvx-17 with a 175 Evinrude crossflow back in the day. would run 58-62 i beleive.... all day long. Nice motor shots... keep em' coming, especially with the new beast on the way!

  • ct1762- I'm estimating 60 to 65mph with 150HO as you are thinking. Really looking forward to mounting the V-6 which is sitting in the barn ready to go. Your CVX17 sounds like it was an awesome setup. Thank you for the comments.

  • Now thats music to my ears:) My 150 runs like that...:)))enjoy

  • @Yiddil - You're not going to believe this...next week I'm taking delivery on a used 2011 Etec 150 HO. Can't wait!! I'll bet it's an awesome motor too.

  • This is really a great video Strom. Thankyou

    Ken

  • LIQUIDNIRVANA - Glad you like it. I'm having a lot of fun with the outboard and doing videos. Hope to produce another video of the boat in action from another boat. Today I tried a new prop. Check out the performance in the Classic Glastron forum...installed an OMC SS 13 x 23. The motor actually turned it...we were flying!

  • I am considering making this same change. Do you get noticeably more power/speed with the E-tec? Do you think it would pull skiers better than the old 115? Is the fuel consumption better? Thanks.

  • @1958fm- Keep in mind no matter how you cut it it's still a 1.7 Litre motor. However, I believe the torque is improved because you have a more controlled combustion process and it's always spot-on. Not sure the topend is a whole lot different. Gas / oil consumption is much improved. The noise factor is better if you like it quiet. It starts so much better...no choke to screw with and no gas to drip out. It's a wonderful package and I'd highly recommend it for an upgrade.

  • Hi Jeff - I'm working a couple of bugs out but it definitely is a fun ride. There is no visible smoke that I can detect. The Amsoil HPI is a very clean oil to begin with and with setup I don't even recall smelling it but that could've partially been due to how the wind was blowing when I was at idle.

  • That should make the weekends fun

I don't see any smoke at idle

    Jeff O.

  • In 2007 I did a re-power from a 1991 Johnson 115hp and went a step up to the v-6 150 E-TEC what an improvement in fuel and oil consumption--top end also by 15 mph--Have no complaints--I have a question how much are u paying for the Amsoil HPI oil--I have stuck to the XD-100 buying it on line for around $31/gal.

    Rick

  • @MrRideoutrw - Funny you mention the 150...almost bought it but thought the V4 would be better for resale and would perform to expectations on the CVX-16 and it does. If you become a Preferred customer you can buy the HPI for around $26/gl. You'll still have shipping and tax as you do with the XD-100. If you have any interest please checkout my website. Let me know what boat you're running the 150 ETEC on. Thanks!
