Just like to add my thanks to this upload great stuff but for those of you who wish to timeravel back to the sixties even if it were possible I would not bother to do it.The past is always better than the present because we know not what the future holds. The sixties started something that today still lives and is still good...Popular Music !
Watched this when it was first broadcast in 1967 - The two girls dancing - at 2:05 - LOVED them then - love em now - arent they great - - wonder if they have ever seen this - what a great pair of movers!
@captainsoul1953 They must have thought this "modern" non-serious music was disposable, only suitable for teenagers and younger. The fact that alot of british sixties pop groups were grammar school boys and not public school may have added to this fact. Hadn't they just been 'forced' to start Radio 1?
@TheSoulfeeling Jeez, deffo my friend,,, love that era, wish I was older, that way I could have lived it on the inside, instead I saw it as a kid on the outside, love the music from the 60s, never ever will there be an era like it, I have all the old 60s vinyl 45s which I collected from old record shops....
Pete Murray is an asshole ; an insincere precursor to Peter Powell.Murray,on Juke box jury described the Pink Floyd as 'a con' (!!!!) What the fuck was Murray then if thats the case ? Wouldnt know talent if it bit him on the arse !
Yep.. I'm in my 50s now, and was a big music fan back then.
Always thought that the likes of Pete Murray should never have been doing this sort of thing.. typical BBC trying to be 'with it' and using the old farts they employed at the time.
Yea, well said ; every thing with Murray was 'Smashy & Nicey' e.g. "One of my favourite groups" for EVERY band he didnt really listen to ! & 'Great guy best of luck to ya mate ! Ha ha
when I was at college me and a group of other 67 christmas babies used to get wrecked together and get down to some serious psychedelia appreciation...still do occasionally
In fact film recorded episodes survive of totp from as late as 1973 of programmes made in colour! In fact one has been colour restored. (colour recovery CR)
Sometimes episodes where sold abroad as a film version, no problems of video-standards conversion. Sometimes episodes where recorded on film because videotape machines where not available, so a film recording was made, sometimes BBC engineering made a film recording for other reasons. Film recordings are all that exist of ALL DR Who episodes that survive from the 1960's (145) and 30 from the 1970's as well! As well as many comedy drama and variety shows from the 1960's.
The answer is this show was film recorded (telerecorded) the tape, a quad 2inch tape was wiped but a film version on 16mm film survived. Film recording worked by syncronising a modified cine camera at a 6inch flat screen b/w monitor. The film frame was synched to the two fields of the tv "frame". Only 6 totp shows from the 1960's survive from the 1960's out of 350 or so. One show from 1965 survives as a part VT recording. All the rest are Film recordings(Telerecordings/kinescopes).
what a pitty!! Not too long ago I've taken an interest in TOTP!! It's a shame that it had to leave air in 2006. Bet it was an awsome show!! I'm an American so I've NEVER got to see it on TV!!
@nyrainbow2 The BBC are arseholes, now interested only in making money and guarding their copyright. They are paid for by the British taxpayer, but they act as if they are WarnerMusicGroup. They long ago lost any credibility they once had.
I think the human race was still learning to dance in the 60's

Can someone answer this?...How come some bits like this did survive the mass wipe out, the BBC did of 60s early 70s video.
I can understand it more, if it all survived...or it all was wiped!!
