  • Cool! I just tried to fly a chopper for the very 1st time on the x plane 10 demo... Only now I understand how skilled one must be to fly like this! Will definitely order x plane 10 now! (I barely could take off and not crash, really appreciate the hovering and the ctower round!)

  • Oh thank you hehe. How are the grafics so sexy?

  • Wtf this isnt x plane 9! How did you get out of the heli?

  • @roger201288

I didn't actually get out of the helicopter.

I used a head tracking device during this flight, so I only had to move my head 10 inches to the right, and the virtual "camera" followed my head's position in real time. Do a Google search with the keywords "FreeTrack" or "TrackIR" ! Have a nice day!

  • any information how realstic the simulation is?

  • @CodySmithM

Yeah, it's not easy to find an accurate joystick.

I have a Saitek ST200 with a home-made long shaft. It's a really old joystick, it's kinda weary by now, so I'll have to get a better one soon. Too bad that I don't have too much experience with other brands...

  • Is this better than FSX, can you land helicopters on buildings. Because in FSX when I try to land on a building it just goes through it. Why does it do that. I have the Flight simulator x. Looks like its a better game, and do you get more planes, jets helicopters, and stuff than FSX. Thanks.

  • looks like ATC was taking a break. LOL

  • Great video! I just got X plane 9 a few days ago. Have been using MSFS for ages and decided to give x plane another try.

  • IS X-Plane Frame Rate Friendly? Or do you need a powerful PC?

  • @SeuFilms yeah, i once played this on a labtop and it didn't seem to lag that much.

  • How so u take off because every time I try the helicopter doesn't move off the ground

  • @monsterman48390

First of all, change the "throttle" joystick axis setting to "collective", then raise the collective SLOWLY on the ground.

It works backwards, so the full throttle position will be the lowest collective AOA setting. This is normal.

    Does it help?

  • Do you have any special helicopter joystic devices?

I use a normal throttle, joystick and rudders, bus it is extremely har to hover the helicopter like you do. It's momemets and it's behaviour in the air are very defficult to handle. It's the same with all helicopter in X-Plane.

Can you give me any advice?

    Thankyou

  • @PyroSpeuz

Yes, I use full sized cyclic stick, collective lever and pedals.

Try to do small and rapid corrections with the cyclic in a hover. Helicopters aren't stable vehicles at all. They want to drift away all the time, so it is not an easy task to keep them steady. My best advice is to practice a LOT and keep your FPS on the high side.

  • @gregmeszaros Tahanks a lot for your answer.

I'm quite new in helicopter flying.

    I will practise =)

  • @PyroSpeuz Go into the joystick controls menu and click on the "center" tab. On the left side you will see stability sliders for yaw pitch and roll. I set my yaw to 80%, my pitch to 60% and my roll to 90%. I have a saitek cyborg stick and CH rudder pedals.

  • @artistgmg Thanks. I will try this =)

  • where did you get the heilcopter?

  • @Felix97able

I've downloaded it from the official X-plane community website.

You'll find it in the "Downloads -> Aircraft -> X-Plane 9 -> Civilian and Military Rotorcraft" section on the 5th page.

  • i ben in a r44

  • how do u get out of the helicopter and move around

  • @EBartender23

I have a head tracking device which moves the "camera" as I move my head.

Read the older comments for details.

  • @gregmeszaros if track ir was cheaper hell yeah i'd buy it... but it is definitely not worth that price. ill just have to live with the hat switch.

  • @planeguy3223

I don't have TrackIR either. Why don't you try Freetrack? It does the same for (almost) free. You could make your own head tracking device in a half an hour of work.

  • @gregmeszaros yeah i guess i could do that. ive got a couple hats to spare... or do you do it a different way? id like to make it a project for me. pm me or just put it down here please.

  • @gregmeszaros

it looks like you're flying 6 inches off the ground

  • is this on pc?

  • @eimislt6

    Yes it is.

By the way X-plane runs great on Macintosh as well.

  • wat map is this ?

  • @Danielmaijub

LOWI airport at Innsbruck, Austria. The airport and the detailed surroundings are included in X-plane.

This is the default airport in X-plane.

  • Hi. I am not a noob at X Plane I'm actually really good. Uh, with planes. Whenever I try to fly my helicopter it doesn't take off. I go full throttle and it won't even lift off the ground. Please help.

  • @blanchbacker

You don't have to do anything with the throttle in most modern helicopters. It is handled by an automatic equipment called "governor", which keeps the rotor RPM within a narrow range.

Google out the words "helicopter basics" or "helicopter controls" and you will find tons of useable resources in no time.

A quick hint: Go to menu->settings->joystick, keys and equipment.

Find the joystick axis named as "throttle" and change it to "collective".

I hope it helps, good luck mate!

  • @blanchbacker the throttle control is reversed or actually collective is the real term

same way on a real helicopter

if you have a joystick, but throttle down to go up or

but keep it within have throttle to none or else it will stall then fall out of the sky

so don't do full throttle and you will be fine

  • How do u move out of the helicopter and walk around?

  • @AustraliaNavy

Please read my last comment and you will find out for sure ;)

  • @AustraliaNavy you don't

  • As I have written before, I use a home made headtracking device (a baseball cap with three infrared LEDs on it's brim and a hacked webcam) with a freeware software called Freetrack. Google this out and you'll find all the information you need on their website.

Good luck if you decide to make your own one. I can assure you it's worth the effort.

  • How do you move your camera like that

  • AND BTW when i try to fly my helicopter it says WARNING AUTO IGN and it starts to fly out of control plz help

  • hey everytime i try to fly my helicopter it starts to glitch around and i cant fly crap when it does that plz help!!!

  • If you meant spin around, then use the anti-torque pedals to change tail rotor's blade pitch, which compensates the main rotor's torque. The more engine torque/collective angle of attack you use the more left pedal will needed. When you gain significant airspeed, ease off pedals as the vertical stabilizer starts to be more and more effective. Naturally, you'll need right pedal on european and russian made copters, where the rotor rotates just the opposite direction.

  • i mean like doing backflips and stuff and not staying still

  • how do you get sound on your recording i cant get the game sounds on mine

  • I use a third party software called Fraps to record in-game movies. X-plane's own Quicktime recorder cannot record sound.

  • thanks

  • very nice controlled flight!

  • K, last question do you also have x-plane helicopter for iPhone? Or just the fragging awsome desktop version?

  • Yes, I have used "ctrl-o" for 3d cockpit view.

I don't have an iphone, so I cannot have the iphone version.

  • I've a question! Were you using contol o for your view?

  • I wish I could get heli controls, I have to make due with a saitek pro joystick.... Sigh... I really like flying chinnooks and Comanches in x-plane9. Oh, you can't get out of the plane. Unless you eject(shift space)

  • one question... if u can step out the copter in that game... what happens if u walk to the rear rotor and step through the blades? ;-D

  • wow you're crazy! i hope you would never fly a real helicopter like that! Nice job doing the hovering circle around the control tower, I find that difficult. My joystick kind of blows though.

  • Nice! ;)

  • Awesome contro!! really , I am a private pilot student :P what kind of control devices did u use for pedals, colective, cyclic....

  • OK i just read u made the controls? 2 more questions please, do u think xplane 9 is better sim for hels than FSX? and whay processor and graphic card you hace for such quality? thx

  • I think X-plane has much better flight dynamics in helicopter simulation, thanx to the veeeeery complex physics-based calculations.

I have an overclocked dual core celeron CPU at 3.0 GHz,

VGA is an ATI HD4670, Win XP 32bit, 2 GB RAM.

  • woooow ! how to lieve of the helicopter ?

  • I have used a head tracking device in the video, so I simply moved my head to the right 20 centimeters.

  • i dont know whats wrong but I cant fly helicopters...

i tryed all the buttons but no one makes the helicopter take off... help

  • same here thats y im still training

  • Very good video. I lost count of how many times your licence was in jepardy ROFL...

My fave was the turns around the tower Hahaha...

  • What licence? :)))))))

    Thanks, anyway!

  • hey um can u land by the airplanes and get out and change instead of going to the home screen and changing planes im going to get this game for my ipod tch soon

  • i like it

  • That R44 flies so realistically,I love it, check out mine.

  • YYeeeeeeeeeeeess!!! I want to see your "real cyclic - stuff" and the other things!!!!!! ;-D

  • Beautiful video man. YOu helicopter flying skills are amazing and the vid is so great too. 5*

  • Thank you very much, bro!

  • very nice

  • not bad
