@mrskeggster I worked as a helicopter engineer in British Columbia some years ago.. we were at a place called Lillooet, on a hot (38C) and dry summer's day. The helicopter, a Bell 47, with full tanks and three on board, couldn't really lift off. He barely got it in a hover then sat it back down. The pilot said he gave it maximum pitch on the collective but the blades just weren't biting enough.. That Il76 pilot must have misjudged his V1 pretty badly and VR seemed non existent.. he was lucky..
What the heks wrong with that? In my books that was a great take off. It may have been pretty heavily loaded. If you need more runway to gather speed for a steady takeoff then do it mofo. Do a fkn skid ow!
Holy shit!! That was close.. Eventhough it can take-off and land on grass, i have never seen something like this before.. Nice comments from the filmer, i would have said and thought the same thing..
Il 76 is military transport plane. It has designed capability to land on soil run ways. Like dirt, ice and so on. It used to deliver tanks and company of rifles behind the enemy line. Carring supplies to expedition in Antarctice is easy task for that plane.
I'm with you mate - if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I couldn't have imagined that he used every last inch of concrete.
But keep in mind like most russian a/c, even most of their civilian models, the 76 is designed for all grass takeoff & landing. The cap'n had no worries about using a little grass at the end of his roll if he had to provided the transition is smooth (most runways are in case of shorts or brake failures) and the earth was hard packed.
At 0:57 "The vodka burner is rolling". LOL! I just love the Aussie sense of humor! I'm just wondering what he'd say about something American. I'd probably agree... or not... as I laughed anyway. I have a sense of humor too. Hey Aussies, don't change. We Americans need help with our sense of humor. Maybe you'll rub off on us! LOL!
The newest IL 76 use much better Aviadvigatel PS90 engines with up to 16000kg trust each: this give much better accelerations and climb rate and reduce the consumption.
The airport is actually Canberra, our Nation's Capital, and is "shared" with RAAF Fairbairn which is the home of the RAAF VIP Squadron. The civilian facilities start coming into view around 1:25, civilian is on the west side with the military on the east. The footage was take from the RAAF tower. The north-south runway is the longest this runway has handled 747s and C5 Galaxy aircraft without incident. Just facts. As far as the incident if this was a RAAF aircraft, they'd all have new one's torn
@Pvjinflight this is true. Which has seen more combat airlift ? The versatile Casey. I am just very loyal to her having been an initial attack firefighter. Many ground to air drop orders, and they have the lift to hit the tight ravines. But many are aged and have even crashed in Ca. So my bias is my folly perhaps.
@romnsch13 Anyway IL-76 has succesfully operated in very harsh conditions all around the world, probably most amazing one was when taleban fighter jets forced one to land in Afghanistan, and after long time being prisoners its crew managed to turn its engines on and escape from taleban as they allowed them to do maintenance work.
From the flight deck, this is your captain speaking: I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can please please please please please please please please please please please ahhhhhhhhhhh.
