  • Am I racist or preventing sexual assault if I cross the street when I see a black man walking down the sidewalk?

  • While I understand her point, it's irresponsible to say that rape is something that only happens to women. This is why men who are raped under-report their crimes to a higher degree than women do - they are made to believe that it isn't really rape because rape is something that can only happen to a woman. I really wish more people would openly acknowledge that there are men who are also sexually assaulted and abused in these types of discussions.

  • meeting her is one of the two things on my bucket list :') but i find it hard to believe it will ever happen...

  • 19 rapists watched this video.

  • @PostgodAfterbirth Really, I'm a rapist? I did not know that.

  • marry me shoshannah?

  • It's incredible how many of you morons are crying about the wording (which was accurate) instead of focusing on the message.

  • @Schatje79 "Rape is a crime against women" how is that accurate? How? Is rape not a crime against men? Can a man not be raped?

  • @JJAB91

It's called common sense and not extrapolating meaning that isn't there. If a black guy says he's scared to be singled out for police harassment, is he implying somehow that white people aren't? Of course not. If a man says he's afraid to be jumped and beat up, is he implying women aren't? No. The point is, women are shown far more to be raped, blamed for it, etc. So, that's who she happens to be addressing. Anyone who doesn't get this probably shouldn't breed.

  • @Schatje79 To your examples; if they assert that they believe only blacks or men resptecively are victims then yes, it's exclusatory for no good reason. And no, the fact that majority of rapes are against women, and having a target audience of women, are not good reasons for redefining rape. There were huge legal problems prior to the 1970s precisely because lawmakers had so specifically defined the crime. Why insult people for pointing out a legitimate flaw in the presentation?

  • @NanashiSilver

Except there was no assertion. That's the point. The video focuses on the primary victims of rape but that doesn't mean men aren't ever raped. You can't address them the same. Do men worry about wearing "fuck me shoes?" I mean, c'mon. This is not difficult stuff. It would be irresponsible to address the issues pertaining to each gender victimized by rape in one video. Even if the flaw was legit, I wasn't the one calling a deaf chick a "retard" first.

  • @Schatje79 "Police brutality is a hate crime against blacks". Compare "Police brutality is a hate crime". See the difference? You wouldn't need to address men and women in one video... you would just need to not exclusively address women. Do you really think it necessary to insult someone just because they insulted someone else? Much less people like me who have intelligent rebuttals. I'd like to think I have just as much right to breed as you do, despite our disagreement.

  • @NanashiSilver

I'll let you quibble over the finer points of this discussion but I can't waste any more time explaining simple concepts. I want people focused on the true message and not bitching & moaning over how she expressed as mentioned in my original statement.

  • I take walks by myself, sometimes at night. I know I might get mugged. I do think about it. But I don't allow myself to *fear* it, because I know it is statistically unlikely. And because constantly fearing your fellow human beings is unhealthy. Most people are as moral as you are, which means most men think rape is evil, just like you.

Rape is not a hate crime against women. Rape is a crime that can be committed by anyone against either gender.

How about we work to end violence, period?

  • Just shut off the TV Shoshanna. Now your chances of actually being raped are tiny. Unfortunately, my chances of being falsely accused of rape remain.

  • How is rape a hate crime against women? Its a hate crime against men too you fucking retard.

  • How is rape a "hate crime" against women? Women can rape men, no matter how much people want to denied that.

I'm NOT denouncing this, just pointing out they should have used different wording. The one they gave undercuts their meaning and message.

  • Man, she is hot.

  • by far the cutest deaf.....just me?

  • Shoshannah rocks !! What a wonderful actress !! (Jericho).

  • A crime against women? Sweet, that means i can sexually assault men and transexuals all i want!

  • @Stormthorn67 Did you come from TV tropes too?

  • @MightyQuinn2021

    Indeed i did good sir/madame.

  • @Stormthorn67 Jolly good!

  • @Stormthorn67 i think we all did.

  • SHE IS SOOO FIT.BEAUTIFUL! X

  • Ok I am going to get downrated by this but here goes nothing.

I have some problems with this add:

1.- Rape its not a crime against women. It´s a crime against the vicitm (yes, even males can be raped and sexually asaulted)

2.- The "rape culture" should not dissapear: In the sence that it should be teached how to prevent it and how to treat a victim of rape, as it to create laws to punish the ofendres

3.- I dont see the point in showing a someone deaf unless its to shamelessly generate simpathy

  • @Link544 I agree. This add annoys me.

  • Ah! I'm glad the ending cleared it all up.

  • If someone's brand new car was stolen, would we blame the victim or the thief? Would we tell the victim that she/he had no right to have such a pretty new car? That it was too "tempting," sitting right there where everyone could see it, all alone, and at night? Or, would we say that the car thief should have exerted self-control? That she/he should have admired the car, and walked on? Car theft is never the victim's fault. Neither is rape.

  • @YY4Me133 But if you left the car doors open and the key in the lock? Sure it's still theft, nothing makes that right, but are you saying circumstances have never have any bearing on a case?

Don't get me wrong, of course I'm not saying "blame the victim" but at the same time we shouldn't throw nuanced thinking out the door just because someone was victimized. That's just as bad as automatically assuming the victim is to blame.

  • @megamarsvin If one has integrity one doesn't justify harmful acts, even if they wouldn't require much effort. I don't see any room for nuance. It's just as wrong to steal someone's money that's sitting on their kitchen table as it is to steal it from their wallet. But, perhaps you have a better example, one that would demonstrate that my thinking is in error. By the way, the open car with keys in the lock doesn't work for me. I've waited by such cars for their owners, and/or notified police.

  • @YY4Me133 Like I said: theft is wrong regardless. But if I got robbed after I left my door ajar I would probably blame myself at least partly. Not because I deserved to get robbed but because I was stupid enough not to take common-sense precautions. Theft is wrong but going into the world expecting, as per your example, a good Samaritan will protect your belongings while you're gone is naive to say the least.

Of course that's in no way a perfect analogy for the rape issue.

  • @megamarsvin I think we're discussing two different aspects of this issue: regret and blame. If I forgot to lock my door, and my home was burglarized, of course I'd kick myself (regret), but the burglary still wouldn't be my fault (blame). It's possible I'm missing your point, or that we simply disagree, and I can't tell which, if either, it is.

By the way, my example was not my expectation, but my action. I don't expect others to do the same, although many do. There are lots of good people.

  • @YY4Me133 There are of course and you're right they are two different aspects. But of course legally the robber is still legally responsible and rightly so. But whether that means there's never any additional responsibility on the other side, not from a legal perspective but, as you say, from a personal one, I don't believe so.

When I see people my age "partying" the way they do, associating with the people they do, I can't help but think that's an accident waiting to happen.

  • It's not sexist for challenging sexist ideals *facepalm*.The video offered no definition which excluded men; rather they addressed the fact that women, not men, are blamed and slut shamed for their actions if they are raped. It is a female experience to be taught "don't get raped" instead of teaching men "don't rape"; women are encouraged to restrict their freedom of dress, expression and mobility, whilst men are not. 99% of victims are female, and that speaks for itself.

  • This video is disgustingly sexist, implying that only women are victims of rape and abuse.

    Completely ruins its attempted message.

  • Not trying to rock the boat or be antagonistic but maybe they say women because alot of the time, women are the ones who get the comments like: "She dressed like that so she deserved it." "She looked at me like this." "She went here." Do you know what I mean?

  • She is so beautiful

  • Firstly, I fully agree with the primary message of this video. Saying or implying that a rape victim is at fault for being raped is disgusting. But I think defining rape as a hate crime against women in particular is wrong. More women are victims of sexual violence than men, yes, but many men have been victims as well.

  • For the record, I'm not saying this commercials bad, just that they need to get a point across for both genders. Happens to men too.

  • So if a chick slipped me a roofie and jumped my bones...that's not a crime? Bullshit.

  • 1:33 Because all abusers are male.

  • Love it, it's so simple but the message works so well. Well done to everyone involved.

  • WOW that was a FANTASTIC FILM with a great message! As a lifelong martial artist and Amazon Warrior I ALWAYS ADVOCATE for women and have taught them self defense and awareness as well as empowerment to keep them safe! No matter how small a world we make ourselves live in to stay safe, it can happen to any womon, girl or baby at any age, often by those we know even more than strangers sadly. END RAPE CULTURE NOW, LEARN TO DEFEND YOURSELF! Take up your space! There's so much more to womonhood.

  • Well, while nothing you can do would justify having someone rape you, being alone in a parking lot at night is a stupid idea for anyone who doesn't have some serious self defense training. People get robbed, assaulted or raped in isolated areas such as a parking lot very often. So, if you're doing something so risky, it can make you an idiot.

Just because it is bullshit that anyone would commit an act of rape in the first place doesn't mean you shouldn't take preventative measures against it.

  • STRONG MESSAGE! LOVE THIS VIDEO!

  • Rape is a very heinous crime and the fact is that the victim is just that, a victim and not at fault in the least, however the use of the term "Rape Culture" is a very poor phrase to use, in addition the message is being overly paranoid as everyday someone despite their gender, age etc can be a victim of many types of crimes is common place, are we all afraid to go out for the fear we may be robbed, raped, murdered etc? The fact is 80% of the rapes are done by those that are known to the victim!

  • Rape is not a hate crime against women, rape is a hate crime full stop. The implication here is that rape is a man-on-woman only thing. So, men can't get raped. Good to know.

  • true true true

  • or be a person

  • Dont Video-Log too ! ...? Smile..Good Vlog for Everybody to Think of Don't Rape !

  • If she is afraid of being at places at night, then I'd say she has an anxiety disorder and should seek help.

  • I am quite impressed that she was born in same hometown where I was born and we could be neighbor with same belief. I hope to hear from her for a nice talk about the hometown that she and I grew up in nice area. Thank you with support.

  • There is no such thing as rape culture, not in America. This video defines gender by the lowest common denominator. How she makes assertions in the third-person, as if her words were those of a would-be rapist, is a shameful stereotype portraying all men as either unsympathetic or hostile towards victims of rape. Those views are FALSE and they are lies!

It is WRONG to attribute the irrational attitudes of rapists to all men! Stereotyping all men as misogynist is EVIL!

    I respect women.

  • Men can be raped too...

  • Must everything be labeled as hate crime? Women are trying in vain to exploit the system to the full extend; so yes, I think you're indirectly asking them to rape you so knowingly full well that the civil court will award you million of dollars, then you wouldn't have any issues being raped. Buy guns, mace, take karate courses, and you will have every money available to build up your defense mechanism.

The law should be protecting rape victims WHO aren't exploiting the rape law.

  • I think a Woman has to watch out for rapists, but being scared of it will only make things worse. I am not a woman so I can't say for sure, but I think that people who are afraid of something will not be able to fend themselves off when said rape occurs.

Also Shoshanna, lets make beautiful Jewish babies together. The legit way that is.... :)

  • This isn't about "don't let yourself get raped," this is about "rape is a hate crime that dehumanizes people, don't blame the victim, don't tolerate it, don't joke about it, don't laugh at jokes about it. There's so much more, even: Don't use "rape" as a casual word, pictures of My Little Pony as a porn star did NOT rape your childhood. Think about the whole concept before assuming Shoshannah's saying anything simple or easy.

  • Don't Rape is just the beginning. Don't tolerate rape. Don't condone rape. Don't help rapists by blaming and vilifying the victim. Don't lie about rape.

  • Don't rape? What rapist or potential rapist is going to watch this and grow a conscience? They rape women, if all of that screaming and crying doesn't convince them that it's a bad thing then I don't think that PSA is going to do it.

  • @fsmdidit The point is to hold the rapist accountable for their action instead of reasoning on how it is the survivor's fault the rape happened.

  • Hi there , my beaut Stern / Star !

  • Very Good Point !!

  • cont'd... Deaf women who identify themselves as Deaf first share the same concerns as the actress, who says she identifies herself as a woman first, not Deaf. Hearing women share the same concerns as well. It does not make much sense to us to frame it as a choice between identifying first as Deaf or as a woman. Other than, this we love the video and hope the message on rape culture sinks in.

  • A very creative and well-done message! The only feedback we have is that we wish the opening line did not minimize Deaf identity, which is not even relevant to the PSA message.

  • Some of those things said actually restricts normal lifestyle. Such as fashion statement. Some women cannot help it if she has a beautiful figure, how do you hide it? Wear baggy clothes? That's just very restrictive.

    Very good video, anyway.

  • Whoa, this is a FANTASTIC video and the best I've seen! That is so true and I absolutely agree with every word in this video. Very powerful and I am forwarding this to my friends. Rape should never be tolerated, period.

  • beautifully said!! I have issues with myself being a woman as well.. I do get scared by going out by myself and stuff like that. DONT GET RAPED AND DONT RAPE!!!!

  • Thanks ShoShannah! I am a Deaf Woman myself... and although yes I do identify myself as Deaf first... I do have to recognize that I am a woman foremost. It is hard to convince yourself that it is "not the victims fault", especially when you are the victim. There needs to be more people like you reminding us that it is not our fault. Thanks!

  • @4evaRaeG96 Anyone can be a victim of rape, any age, both genders. Is it the victim's "fault" if she/he is an infant, or elderly? Would we say a baby was "asking for it" because it was "scantily dressed," wearing only a diaper? Would we say an elderly person was "asking for it" because she/he was out alone, late at night?

If you're struck by a car that's out of control, is it your fault? If you're raped by someone who's out of control is it your fault? No on both counts. Don't blame yourself.

  • Excellent video conveying the message the demand of respect for women! Bravo, Shoshannah!!!

  • Beautiful vlog makes me tears.

  • awesome vlog

  • I love this! So true!!!

  • Shoshannah, YOU ROCK!!! I love that you are out there, telling EVERYONE, Deaf, Hard of Hearing and hearing, that the survivor is NEVER at fault!! I will share this with EVERYONE I know!!! Rock on, girl!! ;)

  • What a great message! Hats off to DeafHope! :^)

  • This is a powerful message, well said.

  • very powerful PSA with a straightforward message.... rape and violence against women will stop once the perpetrators stop what they are doing and start taking full accountability for themselves with full awareness of their privileges of power.

  • Fantastic video by John Savage! Powerful, frank, direct. Beautifully done.

  • Great stuff! Bravo to DeafHope but I love that chair. Send it over!
