@spoogerification You could make those loose connections with a LOT of sci-fi horrors. In Event Horizon there were no weird creatures, it wasn't the commander that went crazy it was the scientist guiding them, it wasn't a virus that caused it, it was a psychic force. The plot/premise and execution of the two are nothing alike aside from a few base similarities that most movies of that genre share. You could say it's like Alien for much the same reasons. Or The Thing. Or Resident Evil. etc.

Nice review man, I just stumbled onto this from a Doom 3 review. Im glad you actually put some effort into reviewing it, a good 30 minute review. Glad somebody actually cares about the little things. I did sorta like this movie, despite it being a cheesy B-movie. Doom 4 anyone?
Okey heard of the "havent played the third Doom game" and I paused. Honestly m8 you can't review the movie without seeing or playing the Doom 3 game a little because this shit fuck of a ass movie was suposed to be made by that one. The BIG monster is suposed to be one of the hardest in the game and shoot LARGE blue fireballs and everything shakes like hell when they come. Here they are slow and lame as hell especially the imps. No speed and fireballs no they got a fucking tounge... hurray.......

Plenty of sci-fi has common sense... Read some Ben Bova, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C Clarke or Frank Herbert for example. Not that I'd put DOOM in the same league as those masters of the genre, of course, but just because it's a sci-fi actioner doesn't mean things don't need to make sense. T2 made perfect sense. Ditto other sci-fi actioners like Robocop, Starship Troopers, Alien/Aliens, Event Horizon, etc. Within their own sci-fi worlds, things were explained and were consistent.
And thats another thing too. I haven't played Doom in years, but I knew the story had something to do with hell and demons, but the story for this movie felt more like a new Residents evil. To be honest I was kind of bored throughout this entire movie and barely understood wth was going on.
I watched this movie today and hated everyone in this movie, including my boy the Rock. I played the old PC Doom game and hope to play a next gen version of it soon. I thought Hitman was pretty good though.

Wow, that's a new one on me. I've been doing these kinds of videos since 1990 (see my "MMC Retro" series if you don't believe me). Just because two people have similar styles doesn't mean one is ripping off the other. I love AVGN, but would never think to rip him off in any way, shape or form. His style is completely different from mine. not everyone who does "angry ranting" or whatever is an AVGN wannabe, you know.
If you want AVGN, go to his youtube channel. Oh that's right, he doesn't update it like he used to. He's too busy making money on GameTrailers. Gee I guess that means you'll just have to get the fuck off of youtube.

There. FYI, this is shorter than many of my other reviews, I just decided to put it all in ONE part instead of splitting it up into 2 or 3 parts. My Star Trek 2009 review was nearly an hour total. I'm thorough and like to pick apart the movies I discuss, if you want a "normal" review go somewhere else. Because I ALWAYS do more than a typical review.
While I do wish they stuck with the portal to HELL story, I enjoyed DOOM! Then again, I'm a whore for sci-fi horror movies... Also, kudos for bringing up Event Horizon! LOVED that!

I'm glad you poke fun at the things you did in this. I was saying the same ideas when I walked out of the movie. I can appreciate a movie, even if its bad, that tries to stick close to the source material. That's why I liked AVP: Requiem, because it was a badly made fan film, but you could at least tell they WATCHED the other movies. Can't say that so much about the first AVP. I think the best Video Game adaptation might be Silent Hill although it gets bad rep. It stayed true to the game though.
The first Mortal Kombat was a good movie too. The second one sucked though. I still think that the Doom movie is in every single way an abomination and the director needs to get fired. Doom is about killing demons, PERIOD!!!!! If you take that out then it's no longer Doom! It's fucking Resident Evil in space. It's like what they did with Jason X. Jason in Space, WTF!!!!!!! Of the two, transformers does have a VERY deep plot. Read the comics and watch the cartoon series and the movie to see how deep. Doom is about shooting demons, PERIOD!
Yes I know all about the Transformers universe. But for CASUAL movie goers who don't know anything about the mythology of Transformers I'd think it would be still a nice action movie.
I like the fact Annetta is pissed (or seems like it) that you rate [Doom] higher than [Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen]. Though I would probable enjoy Doom more than [Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen] due to lower expectations. Because you mentioned Paul W.S. Anderson what is your quick thought on Alien vs. Predator (2004)?

I thought the "First Person Shooter" sequence was really stupid!!! I watched the movie to see a movie. I don't want to see someone else playing the game, it I did I'd see a walkthrough on Youtube. The movie was a complete disgrace to everything Doom related! The only thing worse is the "Alone in the Dark" movie by Uwe Boll! I bought the movie, watched it, then took it back the same day! (I didn't see it in theaters and thank god for that). Nice review, but for me, there were no redeeming points!

Being a bigger fan of the older Doom games I wasn't too fond that they decided to base the movie around Doom 3 (which they in a way didnt do 100%), but still I'm not suprised.
It has its moments, its not the best movie out there, but not the worst either. But like someone said, this movie could have been called anything because it dosent really that much to with Doom 3, they pretty took out the whole "Hell" element of it which is sad..
Doom was entertaining to watch, but not my fav game adaptation. Super Mario Bros was entertaining as well. I think Silent Hill was the only one that I really enjoyed and lots of people liked it as well. Max Payne, Hitman, both where some what entertaining. Double Dragon was even good. lol.

Don't tell me what to do on my channel. The review is the perfect length for everything I wanted to say about the movie. So no, I won't shorten it up. I make my videos as long or as short as I feel like for whatever the subject is. I don't cater to the ADD generation. Sorry you have the attention span of a flea. Anyone who visits my channel should know the typical length of my videos. Don't like it? Watch something else. You're subscribed to coolduder and find MY videos too long? Irony.

There. FYI, this is shorter than many of my other reviews, I just decided to put it all in ONE part instead of splitting it up into 2 or 3 parts. My Star Trek 2009 review was nearly an hour total. I'm thorough and like to pick apart the movies I discuss, if you want a "normal" review go somewhere else. Because I ALWAYS do more than a typical review.

29 minutes in -- Uwe Boll did make one movie that was good. Postal. It's random, fucked up, and he even stars in the movie making fun of himself for making bad movies. That is what the Postal video game was all about...mindless....and I mean MINDLESS action, random crazy crap, and no coherent story....the perfect movie for Uwe Boll!!

I'm glad you poke fun at the things you did in this. I was saying the same ideas when I walked out of the movie. I can appreciate a movie, even if its bad, that tries to stick close to the source material. That's why I liked AVP: Requiem, because it was a badly made fan film, but you could at least tell they WATCHED the other movies. Can't say that so much about the first AVP. I think the best Video Game adaptation might be Silent Hill although it gets bad rep. It stayed true to the game though.

The first Mortal Kombat was a good movie too. The second one sucked though. I still think that the Doom movie is in every single way an abomination and the director needs to get fired. Doom is about killing demons, PERIOD!!!!! If you take that out then it's no longer Doom! It's fucking Resident Evil in space. It's like what they did with Jason X. Jason in Space, WTF!!!!!!! The first person scene was stupid! I didn't want a Doom move to see some guy playing a game, I wanted a real movie dammit!!!

Of the two, transformers does have a VERY deep plot. Read the comics and watch the cartoon series and the movie to see how deep. Doom is about shooting demons, PERIOD!

I like the fact Annetta is pissed (or seems like it) that you rate [Doom] higher than [Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen]. Though I would probable enjoy Doom more than [Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen] due to lower expectations. Because you mentioned Paul W.S. Anderson what is your quick thought on Alien vs. Predator (2004)?

I thought the "First Person Shooter" sequence was really stupid!!! I watched the movie to see a movie. I don't want to see someone else playing the game, it I did I'd see a walkthrough on Youtube. The movie was a complete disgrace to everything Doom related! The only thing worse is the "Alone in the Dark" movie by Uwe Boll! I bought the movie, watched it, then took it back the same day! (I didn't see it in theaters and thank god for that). Nice review, but for me, there were no redeeming points!

I believe the Director's name is prounounced And r zej bart ko wi ack Andrzej Bartkowiack, I can understand you having difficulty with his first name, but I got his surname right nearly rightaway. He's a native of my Grandfather's homeland of Poland, hence the unsual name. Speaking of unsual names thanks Shaun, thanks to you I now know how to spell Uwe Boll, seriousily I was trying to figure out how to spell his name, plus I didn't know he was German, if I'd known that it would have been easier.

Being a bigger fan of the older Doom games I wasn't too fond that they decided to base the movie around Doom 3 (which they in a way didnt do 100%), but still I'm not suprised.
It has its moments, its not the best movie out there, but not the worst either. But like someone said, this movie could have been called anything because it dosent really that much to with Doom 3, they pretty took out the whole "Hell" element of it which is sad..
Anyway, great review like always, keep it up!

Doom was entertaining to watch, but not my fav game adaptation. Super Mario Bros was entertaining as well. I think Silent Hill was the only one that I really enjoyed and lots of people liked it as well. Max Payne, Hitman, both where some what entertaining. Double Dragon was even good. lol.
