something happened to me last Thursday when I was driving home

I had a couple of miles to go - I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky, to the east! It was moving very irregularly. Suddenly there was intense light all around me, and when I came to, I was home.

Colonel from MGS2 is different from Cambell (The guy who talks to Snake in MGS1, and MGS4) MGS3 is Major Zero he helped Big Boss.

Well, it was a codec call which means snake could have been listening in at the time when that happened, or maybe that was just the colonels drunk story he tells everyone after missions. Or maybe it was a breaking the fourth wall moment that involved the player to have to remember what the game was referencing, and had no bearing on the plot whatsoever so such an inconsistency wouldn't matter. Pick your poison :D

@Worldofjon7 I see where you're going, but the Metal Gear series (especially 2) are known to break the third-wall constantly making it seem like the people in the game like Colonel talking to you, as in you behind the TV screen, not the character you're controlling. (ie. When Colonel tell's you to turn off the PS2 while in his AI form)

@Worldofjon7 well technically since in MGS2 when the colonel was saying that to raiden over the nanomachines everyone else could hear the conversation that was within the codec frequency such as snake, rose, and even otacon. And since the nanomachine communication is connected between everyone in the game other people could hear other sides of conversations
