  • @LuckiNutt it is a sequel, but only as much as every final fantasy is to eachother. meaning they have nothing to do with eachother

  • Schala's like Kid except cute, and only because her hair is down! IF ONLY KID HAD HER HAIR DOWN. She'd be that much better.

  • Best soundtrack ever in a video game.

  • I always assumed that Schala was just Kid in of the dimensions. If you notice, there is only one Kid while there is two of every other character.

  • @DarkAurora2002 Kid was killed in one of the realms. I forget which though... Lynx kills her, but she is still alive in the other.

  • didnt schlas hair change color in chrono trigger? It might have been the original timeline flash back...but im pretty sure that showed it

  • @killger1297 the ds one was just a remake of chrono trigger

  • 1:58 Serge ''To infinity and beyooond!!'' ....sorry,couldnt help myself

  • i still remember this ending back then. gave me tears all the way to the end.

  • schala's theme :3....i think xD

  • I've heard that the reason Schala looks so different is because of her imprisonment. Like Lavos had drained her of a lot of her power, and if I remember correctly, a lot of people in the Zeal Kingdom had blue hair. Perhaps it was because of their magical power and since Lavos drained Schala of all of it, her hair turned a normal color. I dunno...it makes sense to me. Sort of.

  • Are you kidding me? You did that on your first try? When I did this fight trying to get the chrono cross off it took me like 3 hours! I don't get it......

  • Egads it's genius in order to prevent us from figuring out that the voice talking to us is like one of our friends Schala decided to give her clones ridiculous accents genius

  • 7:00 the only music in the game that made me cry... mostly because its the ending of a game that build my childhood

  • I placed the chrono cross at it's natural level making the whole thing needlessly harder it would seem. What movie was the whole zool thing?

  • @GodOfPlague

Zool came from the movie Ghostbusters when Dana is possesed by the demon "dog" named Zool. The line she spoke was---"There is no Dana only Zool".

  • @sbcmarine81 isn't it spelled zuul?

  • @GamingIdiot42Neo

D'oh I can't believe I missed spelled that but you're right it is Zuul.

  • Are those... Udders on the Time Devourer?

  • I just realized...they TOTALLY ripped the way you beat The Time Devourer off of the way you beay Giegue in Mother, where you play a song to beat it. I mean you can still just own the Time Devourer normally but then you get a halfassed ending.

  • my favorite line of a character where guile says that about the enigma is leahs because it pretty much tells you leah is ayla's mother.

  • I think there was a theory I heard somewhere that the reason Schala starts speaking like Kid is because after Schala is freed, the two of them become one entity. So, the new Schala-Kid has characteristics of her original life as Schala as well as those of Kid (ie: the accent)

  • They're from New Zealand.

  • I like the line Guile has, that he will search for a new enigma. Could it mean he found what he was searching for? Schala, hmm.

  • Respond to this video... All I can say is WOW! I beat this game about 10 years ago when it first came out and IMO, this time around (with HCBailly's help of course) it was much better! Thanks HCBailly, awesome job man!!

  • I would love to see Schala in true form when I play Chrono Trigger. Ah, the beauty!!!

  • Those last lines are TOTALLY taken from "Ocarina of Time", but this game is way better, so I can forgive that.

  • HC, why is the original party so short? IE Chrono, Lucca, Marle...

  • hey i have a question .................[ when i beat the lavos and then schala don;t broken the bubble and there was no ending vidio .........how u got the vidio of end......and why i can;t see this vidio when i beat lavos

  • wait wait wait a second ive played chrono trigger beaten all the endings and now u mean to tell me that lavos is still alive????? I dont get it

i mean we already beat him or it in chrono trigger or was that just in another time line???

u gotta explain that to me.

  • got lucky time devourer messed me up when i was on white :( lol

  • 8:10 To answer your question . . .

Zurvan is the primordial Persian god of earth, fire, wind, water, light, dark, space, infinite time, and destiny. As the beginning of all things, it is neither male nor female and neither good nor evil. It has two children: Ahura Mazda (god of good) and Angra Mainyu (god of evil). No other known religion has such a god. It is the ideal real-world god of choice for the theme of this game.

  • i think lavos might me sentient but just doesnt have much to say...i mean it implanted ideas into queen zeal so it must have a mind.

  • they are making a new chrono game its called chrono break for the xbox 360

  • Hahaha, nice joke man.

  • they are i looked up on the chrono series that japan has made it called Chrono Brake(Chrono Break) and they are making one for the ds

  • "... best shot... Hot Shot?" Hot Shots Part Deux?

I thought Schala was like 16ish. How come she looks 8 here?

  • Yes there really air mail order brides

  • Actually, Kid's "farewell" is not like the other party members.

Her speech works like Schala. So that accent was not Schala's, it was Kid's, really...

  • The way this game handles the "final boss" very much reminds me of the recent 358/2 Days. The final boss of that game was cake, but the super boss proceeding it was hard and split into four segments.

More games need to have the final boss, the real final boss, to be the hardest story boss...

  • Wow, Time Devourer snuck one hit? I remember it doing a lot more than that with me...maybe because I had the Chrono Cross in the level 7 (or whatever) slot. Thanks, HCBailly, I will be sure to remember this next time I fight Time Devourer.

I've also acheived the "bad ending", the one where you kill TD...Kid still searches for Serge, I think...because that part of the montage is still there.

  • HEHEHE I just realized now that that was the music that was played in Zeal Kingdom or at least some variation thereof

  • @DestroyerofLight666

I never noticed that. I can sort of hear it, but I wonder if anyone ever sped up the notes to the "magical pattern" to find out.

  • I like having Fargo at the end; his last lines basically invite you to go become a pirate on his ship with him.

  • I'm a little sad you didn't bash the boss' face in and then say "Oops." I got the bad ending initially, and was like what? Before I realized what had happened.

  • There was a whole little back story of Schala and her people that wasn't really told in the game, apparently if they had blond hair they were out of magic and when it was Blue it means they did, it was a small thing in Chrono Trigger they later removed when they decided to also remove her as an extra party member... I know way to many things about Chrono Trigger when it comes down to the smallest detail :c

  • All I have to say is, that was awesome music!

Overall, I really liked the soundtrack for this game. It had some really memorable pieces, and IMO, rivals any other game soundtrack, in terms of overall quality.

  • Mail order brides do exist. Not hard to find either. You've got Brazilians, Latinas, Asians, and Russians all ready to have their way paid to America.

  • I have a question about the Time Devourer. My friend has told me that if you beat him the normal way by killing him with Sprigg (or the Forget-Me-Not Pot I think), Sprigg will learn the Time Devourer's dopplegang, but it will only work in the Time Devourer's battle and when you use it, Sprigg will Dopplegang, but have a random playable character inside instead of Schala. I was wondering if this was true or not as I haven't tested it myself.

  • Another LP done. Congrats HC. Cant wait to see you do FF8.

  • The extra dialogue part... I really liked Leena and Poshul's parts. They were your two first party members after all (excluding Kid potentially).

I also heard you can get Harle to say something extra after you do a certain trick with new game pluses. :D

  • I don't know if it's been mentioned, but this "boss" doesn't "have a penchant for using green elements." He has a penchant for using the opposite element of the next one in the chrono cross chain. I.E. if the next one was supposed to be Yellow, he'd use Green.

BUT, after doing enough damage to him, he'll actually help instead, ie use Yellow when Yellow is next in the chain. The expected way to beat him is do damage until he helps, and get it with his help, without doing TOO much damage.

  • I always kinda wished that the elemental song that is played at the end would have the same melody as the beautiful Schala theme in Chrono Trigger.

Well done on your LP, HC Bailly!

  • no mail-order brides sorta exist

they get married so they can get into the country and become a citizen

  • this guy isnt too hard to chrono cross even if ya DONT use strategy... actually when i fought him he sat there and completed the element field for me (nice of him to help me destroy him lol)

also the 9000 joke... havnt heard of that one in awhile lol

  • i had serge glenn and turnip for this battle. i like how the third party member says something different after using the time egg. turnip says something along the line of i will fight for the sun water and earth or something i liked that. thats what i thought they needed to do more in this game is use the characters personalities more.

  • this boss looks different in the ds version of chrono trigger

  • Well, the Dream Devourer is only like the larval form of the Time Devourer.

  • Well, they're from Zeal, so they're... Zealots?

  • @dukluvrr MY LIFE FOR AIUR!

  • spermatoza. lol.

  • The power of music conquers all obstacles!

  • So Magus was Australian as well?

  • Life~ Faraway Promise... one of the, if not the best, songs in the game.~

  • ITS OVER 9000!! haha.

This part of the final battle was annoying, when I was trying to put in the correct order of the elements to use the Chrono Cross, Lavos kept on interupting the order lol, finally got it after 5 or so tries lol

  • He uses Greens because Green is counter to the element you initially need (Yellow)

  • So, that voice in the Terra Tower that said that it USED to be human (near that stone face) but was late captured and held prisoner was Schala? Interesting interpretation. Chrono Compendium seems to feel differently, and apparently Masato Kato once said that that voice was originally the idea for another playable character.

  • 9000! clips is back YAY!

  • Not in your lifetime? but the Baillys live forever

  • 1:37 I knew you were gonna do that...yet I still laughed my head off...

5:49 Oh by the way HC...have you heard of the new game that is coming out called "Chrono Data"...I think it's about Lavos infecting the worlds computer data system and...LOL...no there is no Chrono Data...I'm just messing with you...or am I???

  • There was a game called "Chrono Break"

    was canceled though

  • @Morag0 Technicly Squaresoft Japan is still holding onto the name rights to "Chrono Brake" but Squaresoft America gave them up

  • I believe that using the Chrono Cross outside of the final boss battle (as in, any other battle, I'm not sure whether you have to use elements in the same combination as in here or not) refills your element grid, so you can, with the Chrono Cross, use elements twice in one battle.

  • I have to admit that this part choked me up a bit. But such an anti-climatic battle...

  • You know, they should have kept the concept of Guile being Magus for Chrono Cross for one particular thing: Magus spent the rest of his life looking for a way to find Schala. For him to find her like this and to finally regain his memeries (in reference to Radical Dreamers) would have been a perfect closure for the character and a perfect closing tie-in plot for both the games.

  • 3:35 Some old strategy that I read said to rely upon Time Devourer's counter-element attack to get hte spell going. (EG: You cast green, it casts yellow to hit you back, or such.)

8:00 This is also thematically relevant to the ending of Terranigma, too. Shopkeeper in the ending.

9:21 What if it's Kid speaking? And she's speaking because something happened with her and Schala?

  • ok i missed it somewhere along the line.. who is schala again and why is she important?

  • @bingostar826 Schala was the princess of Zeal. She was able to control the Mammon Machine to extract the power of Lavos.

After Crono and friends interfered in the timeline, she was caught in the dimensional vortex with Lavos and could not escape. Apparently, it was like a Majin Buu sort of thing where normally Lavos would just kill you, but I guess since Schala wielded incredible magic, she was absorbed instead to make it more powerful.

  • @HCBailly I've heard just the opposite from other people, that the Schala you free is the Schala you deleted from the timeline who escaped from the Ocean Palace and it's in the darkness beyond time that she encountered one, or possibly, many versions of Lavos whose timelines were deleted that merged into the Time Devourer.

Apparently you never find out what happened to the Schala who was trapped in the Ocean Palace.

  • OHHH that's why Lucca died.

    Thanks for explaining, HC!

    I finally know now!

  • i personally think that you dont put enough clips in anymore.. it adds charm

  • I'd rather not have my videos taken down for copyright infringement.

  • you got me there. . well its funny when you can do it

  • I kinda wished you would have included the clip from Shawshank Redemption where he comes out of the sewer when Schala was freed. Might have killed the moment, but would have been awesome.

  • Are you going to fight the three hidden bosses in New Game +, HC?

  • c'mon you know hes going to

  • maybe Zeal is like New Zealand and that's where Kid's accents comes from. lol

  • IT"S OVER 9000!!

  • i loled

  • it's always bugged me how do serge and co return from the darkness beyond time?

  • I've always thought that Schala sent them back.

  • sorry to say but mail-order brides do exist. sites like dreammarriage, goodwilfe, and loveme, all exist.

  • Well, Zurvan means time in Avestan(holy language of a religion called Zoroastrianism).

Zurvan was also the name of the creator deity in Zurvanism, which is an extinct form of Zoroastrianism, where he also represented time or space.

  • seems like Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

  • Since HCBailey didn't mention it (Though maybe someone in the comments has), the TD will use an element of the opposite color of the "next element." So, at the beginning of the battle he uses Green elements because the first element is supposed to be yellow.

This means 2 things: If you feel like you're not going to get it off before he casts, if you get to red, he'll cast a yellow, and start the sequence for next time around. Also, if when you get to white, he won't be able to do anything

  • you entered the finale insanely quick considering you just finished a sidequestO_O

  • I think Schala's blonde hair and accent were side effeccts of fusing with lavos.

or since, she had 13020 years to do nothing so she watched kangaroo jack and died her hair and that was carried to her daughter/ clone kid

but the dragon god made harle before she watched kangaroo jack but after watching (insert french TV show here) so that's why Harle had a french accent

  • 4:35 This music is an excellent resolution to the opening title theme in Chrono Trigger.

Having played Chrono Trigger hundreds of times I recognized the similarity immediately and laughed out loud in response. That was a pretty awesome moment.

The music in this moment more than anything else says that the Chrono story has been concluded.

  • I forgot that Kid got that Magus quote. What a weird choice.

  • Not really, when you consider that Kid is technically Magus' sister.

  • Yeah, that's true. Duh.

  • so when zeal sank, it became australia? i sense a terranigma crossover conspiracy!

  • as cool as seeing Chrono and being able to talk to him is, it would have been ten times more awesome if all he said was "..."

  • They do have mail order brides; particularly in Russia.

  • The Radical Dreamers fighting the final boss of the game. How Epic!

  • Also, the voice wasn't always Schala. At the very beginning of the game, when the tidal wave was approaching, it was Kid. (Belthasar says that Kid was meant to call you into the other world...Don't ask me how she managed the tidal wave.) After the battle with Miguel, it was FATE. (I love you so much, that sometimes I want to destroy you, or something like that.) In Terra Tower, it might have been that Olmec-like face, who was originally supposed to be a party member.

  • The face was supposed to be a human imprisoned by the Reptites, (Turned into a face?) freed by you, and join your party. However, since that was scrapped, it might be Schala after all. Either one fits. At the top of Terra Tower...that was probably Schala. Any other mysterious voices in the game that I can help identify?

Also, thanks for thanking me for the Amulet info. Much appreciated, HC!

  • Haha, I forgot about the voices in Terra Tower right before fighting the Dragon God! The ones that said "kill me" and stuff. I always thought of that as the individual dragons inside the big Dragon God, finding out that when they merge, they become slaves to the Time Devourer. Inside the Dragon God, they suffer. Outside, the Dragon God is controlled not by them, but by Lavos...

  • Please, create bonus videos showing level 7 techs, level 5 techs, level 3 techs, and double/triple techs. Please?

Anyways, people: Try beating the final battle with Leah in your party. The good way, I mean, with the Chrono Cross. She has some VERY interesting dialogue. VERY interesting...

  • Also I think that Schala text near the end was Kid talking.

  • The Time Devourer looks kinda weedy considering how large Lavos and the Dream Devourer were.

  • @RiiidgeRaacer

As Lavos was fusing with Schala, Schala was getting physcially closer, while Lavos shrunk.

Would the final form of the Time Devourer have been a spiky red humanoid?

  • I thought the Time Devourer was only technically a 'piece' of Lavos, kind of like the frozen flame itself? A corrupted, broken piece that survived being kicked around by Crono and the others.

  • The DS bonus content reveals that the Time Devourer was Lavos and Schala.

  • Oh yeah mail-order brides exist. They're foreign women usually from a poor background that are looking to marry a well off man in the united states or other first world countries.

  • That's how Chrono Cross was used? Wow, so pretty when freeing Schala.

  • The boss's name: Time Devourer... isn't it the "final" final boss that DS added for Chrono Trigger? If that's wrong, I'm sorry. I just noticed about it.

  • No, that was the Dream Devourer, which eventually matured into the Time Devourer.

It goes like this: Lavos ---> Dead Lavos ending up in the Darkness Byond Time + Schala ----> Dream Devourer ----> Time Devourer ----> ??? (The completely matured and evolved form of the Time Devourer, which Belthasar mentioned will destroy spacetime in the distant future; Space Devourer, maybe?)

  • If you beat down on lavos a bit, he starts using the elements in the order they're supposed to go himself. At the start of the battle, he will always cast the OPPOSITE element from what you're supposed to cast.

Schala vs Kid! Showdown! I'd say that Vegas has it as a coin flip.

  • Ah, that makes complete sense about Kid's pendant!

  • Schala also has a white gown, different from what she wore in the Ocean Palace.

The Time Devourer is smaller than the Dream Devourer in Chrono Trigger. I wonder if the fusion had continued, the Time Devourer would look like a spiky red humanoid.

  • I guess fusibg with LAvos makes you blond

  • Also i don´t remember Schala being so young...

  • She was protected from aging.

  • No what i mean is that on chrono trigger she looks older than she is here

  • Yeah, she really does. I wonder why they decided she had to be a little kid for the purposes of the plot?

  • No idea.Maybe the cuteness factor?

  • If they have prostitutes, they have male-order brides.

  • yes 10,000 is over 9,000....

  • And not to mention Yu Yevon in FFX >_>

  • @DisturbiaTheGreyWolf

I never thought about that, but that's a good point. Yu Yevon and the TimeDevourer are both kind of just "storyline bosses", but they're not really the final "challenge bosses".

Yu Yevon did have flippin' awesome music going for him, though.

  • Kinda anticlimatic, sing a song then BAMM!!! a winner is you. Sounds more like a bad chrildren's show.

  • Sounds like someone needs to play Earthbound.

  • Actually I have played Earthbound and it did a much better job of setting everything up in the end and have the boss be killed by praying. I mean Giygis is my favorite final boss because of how creepy of an atmosphere he created. Where as Time Devourer doesn't present itself nearly as well and I'm expecting to mach that but they could hve at least tried a little better then Bamm! sing song win.

  • @nathannis *not expecting it to match* sorry

  • nathaninis: Mawknation probably meant Mother 1/Earthbound Zero, in which the final boss, Giygas (But in his original form, not the red-cloud-of-evil form) is defeated by singing. And it isn't a bad children's show, either.

  • Okay, I haven't played Earthbound Zero. But what I mean is that Chrono Cross doesn't pull this off very well it just feels a little empty that's all.

  • To me it all felt empty after that massive plot dump, so it didn't really matter to me how they handled the final boss.

  • Yeah, that's true. I guess there's just not as much of a sense of progression in this case. Giygas slowly degraded as the fight went on, and each step actually felt like it was building up to something.

Maybe the atmosphere for this works better if your party isn't as strong as HC's, though. I never played it to the end, so I'm not sure what it'd be like if the boss was a legitimate threat.

  • If you fight Lavos the "hard" way, the boss is still pretty easy. Not the easiest boss in the game, and he has good elements, but he generally does less damage than either Criosphinx or the Dragon God.

  • well i think servay is ly narvana

  • Well technically, Australian accents derived from British accents since Australia was originally a "prison" that Britain would send there worst criminals to, kinda like Alcatraz.

  • I always interpreted the Australian Accent Schala as Kid mergin with Schala for whatever reason. Perhaps in the new timeline, since Schala was freed, she wouldn't have had to make a clone-daughter, and thus Kid wouldn't have existed in the new timeline? So, in that case, the only weay for Kid to continue her existence would be to merge with Schala. She said earlier that she was her own person, but better merging and surviving than being her own person and disappearing forever.

  • Hoo, boy. Correcting pronunciation in Youtube comments? Does HC have to kill off a party member to set you straight?

  • They really do have mail order brides HC, mostly from asia, russia and eastern europe.

  • *slow clap* Well done, HCBailly. Another season, another LP done. I really want to go pick up the game someday. Are you going to bother showing us all the bonus endings you can get in a New Game+, or are you going to take your break, then start Final Fantasy VIII?

  • so what if you don't know the element sequence does that mean you can't beat the game?

the second part is all credits isn't it

  • You can beat the game, but you get the "bad" ending, because you didn't rescue Schala, but the Time Devourer is still dead.

  • Sephiroth in tights...

    Thanks for that image...

  • @Kelmorally If you every completed FFVII you already saw Sephiroth in tights anyway. =) For that the final battle where Cloud fighting him by himself after taking care of the one winged angel form. =)

  • That image bothers you? How about this one :

"Is that a masamune in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

  • Also, it's good to see you actually took Guile and Kid along on your final battle, since Guile was intended to be Magus originally and all three of them were present in the game Radical Dreamers (the prequel to Chrono Cross which took place in yet another timeline).

  • WHAT NINE THOUSAND?!

  • THERE'S NO WAY THAT CAN BE RIGHT!

  • Didn't you know that magic makes you Australian, and vice versa?

  • Am I the only one who's bothered, at this point, that Lavos (and with him the Time Devourer) is literally a giant space flea from nowhere?

I mean, come on. In both games, he was kinda dumped on you with little to no adequate explanation. It was just like "Yeah, he's here, and that's bad." in my opinion.

  • Actually, I was sort of interpreting the ending as saying "Lavos was actually a mixed blessing", with the whole panspermia angle. Stockholm syndrome, perhaps?

  • Lavos was the explanation for the condition of people in 2300 A.D., and was the motivation for Crono and company to kill it in 1999 A.D.

  • I think he means that Lavos was more of a 'calamity from the skies' than Jenova ever was, and we never learned where he came from or why. Except space, and maybe outside of time.

  • I actually WAS referring to the fact that we never really learn too much about Lavos. I mean, sure, almost-omnipotent being from space, but... Where exactly did it originate? How in the **** can it spawn larvae without a mate? Why does it destroy planets, instead of just leaving them peacefully after it's done with them?

I'm kinda hoping to see a sequel/prequel that explains most of this, but chances of that are growing lower and lower...

  • Where did Jenova come from? How did Enuo in FFVI amass so much power? These are all questions that don't need to be answered, really. Just knowing that there is an evil, mysterious and destructive alien that crash landed on the planet is enough.

  • Enuo was from FFV.

In the GBA Remake, he is a bonus boss. Apparently he had been released when Moore Forest burned.

  • I know that. I was just referring to the fact that it isn't always necessary to explain the origin story of an all-powerful villain, such as Jenova, Lavos, or Enuo.

  • Great game, great LP. But i actually like the ending when you beat the Time Devourer without using the Chrono Cross.

  • It is shorter.

  • I read a guide once where it said you had to wait for the time devourer to use a yellow element and it said it has a high chance of doing it......then I got through like 15 battles with him using carnivore and omega green......this will be helpful if i replay chrono cross thanks HCBailly

  • Yeah, TD uses a lot of green elements. However, when I tried to set up yellow and red, then wait for green (for CC), TD never used one for me.
