I bet you idiots commenting on it dont even know the first thing about martial arts, Do yourselves a favor and do some research and take up a form of martial arts, if you dont then your opinion doesn't matter one bit.
This punch may start out at one inch but Bruce sends his fist about six inches past the target using his hip and back leg to literally push the guy backward. Plus the guy in a stance most easily disturbed by a push from the front or the rear. It's all technique.
@misfitstattoo watch?v=4Wxe3u-K8H8 on youtube. Shi Yan Ming is a warrior monk from the Shao Lin Temple now living in New York. A great martial artists himself, Shi held Bruce Lee in the highest regard. In the video, the power of Shi's one inch punch was gauged.
This is not a push -- BL's arm was more or less fully stretched before the action. This is one-inch punch executed with perfection. To this day, no one does it better than BL.
@DLPBurke from where did he generate the power then? Typically, power in a punch is generated from the legs through the torso or at the very least by the backswing of your arm. But power in a push is generted by the follow through. And that is what we witnessed here - a push.
every one needs to open there eyes nothing against bruce lee its a miny punch an the rest is a push the only reason the guy gets knocked over is because hes standing flatfoted an not in a stance if it did hurt the guy with it because of his knuckles push ya knuckles as hard as you can in your head an your see wot i mean

Am I like the only one here who thought Bruce (when he was alive) was like fuckin hottttttt lol like no joke I seriously thought he was sooooooo cute but what can u do I'm only 15 lol
looks more t\like a push then a punch to me. I've recreated the exact same thing with a person and they also flew back, but it wasnt a punch, but a forced push as the hand made a fist.
0:37 watch him sway backwards as he makes his fist, then punches the sucker who lets him hit him in the sternum with a shoulder full of momentum. looks legit to me! hahaha
People saying this was a shove or a push should understand that Bruce’s arm was almost fully stretched (retracting an inch or so from the fulling stretched position) before delivering the punch, and when he delivered the punch, his entire body did not move much at all, only a twitch. To appreciate how much power was packed in the punch, concentrate on the poor guy in slow motion.
People saying this was a trick may not know who the referee was: he was Jhoon Rhee, father of taekkwondo in the USA.
@patzer18 Do you people not see that this is clearly a parlor trick? The guy is standing FLAT FOOTED, SQUARED in front of bruce. What does this mean? The man has ZERO base. Nothing. So ANY momentum in that direction would knock him backwards. Furthermore, it's not truly a "one inch punch".. It's more like a "six inch punch" when you add the shoulder, hip and leg movements. Stop swinging from the guy's nuts. He had a passion for martial arts and he was an actor. Even he knew he wasn't the best.
His volunteer was Bob Baker of Stockton, California. "I told Bruce not to do this type of demonstration again", he recalled. "When he punched me that last time, I had to stay home from work because the pain in my chest was unbearable."
@plattawabbe haha yeah me too but for some reason this time i just kept watchn and trust me there's nothing disturbing happening at the end just the scene with the one inch punch in slow-mo :3
And yes, I know people get all moist over Bruce Lee. However, the fact that he was a famous movie star and somewhat overhyped does not mean he wasn't an extremely competent martial artist.I don't know if he was 'best' - to try to argue over that is just stupid. One thing I am certain of though is that there's no 'trick' on show here, unless you'd say that putting a bullet in a gun is a 'trick'. It's just the mechanism that makes it work.
@xXxSHOOPIExXx It wouldve been cool to see Bruce Lee in the UFC but if he were alive he would never compete in MMA competitions. Besides there is no 115 lbs weight class yet.
for the idiots with the gay hard on for bruce ill explain the trick, first the man getting hit is squared up with no balance, his legs aren't bent nor is his body braced making him fall easily, second the punch is an exaggerated jab (which i doubt any of you understand punching physics) he uses the ridgity of his body (thats why hes side ways so he won't twist) and uses a quick jump with his legs and just follows through to push him over
@msfattytrollbitch quite wrong actually...have u ever even been one inch punched? my trainer keith whos got a blackbelt in brazillian jujitzu from gracie when he trained in brazil one inch punched me and i held 3 stacks of printer paper against my chest and i got knocked back 5 feet and couldnt breathe and i weigh 230 lol so to get hit by a man who perfected the one inch punch is nothing short but incredible...an interview with the man who got hit even said that he was in intense pain for days
@msfattytrollbitch Thats exactly what happened. So when Bruce lee would "push" with his jab explains the immediate chest pains they would have for days. You got it bro he was fooling us the whole time but u dont get fooled so easy. Oh and by the way your a fucken moron for discluding the evidence that the move actually does exist and was taught by other people then just him.
@trainofaaron It's not really "fooling" necessarily. It's misleading to anyone who has ever punched anything before, maybe, but the first thing you should learn about punching is that you don't punch with your fist, or even your arms. You punch with your body.
@msfattytrollbitch what you say is correct, there is a video on youtube, of Wlad Klitschko getting knocked down in a title fight, but i explained to somone who said Wlad had a glass jaw, was the fact he was caught square on. It is easy to knock someone over when they are facing you "square on!"
@msfattytrollbitch You're missing the point. It's not a trick. Punching in kung fu and wing chun uses the whole body. Not rigidity but fluidity - in fact most of the power from this punch comes from a twist in the hips and driving off the back foot. It's not just inch punches, either - straight punches use the same principle and they fking hurt if you don't block correctly. Clearly this man is not blocking, because he's demonstrating the fact that you don't need to swing to land a powerful hit
@msfattytrollbitch even though the guy is standing like he is, its still a very powerful blow. i would rather take any other punch than a one inch punch from bruce.
people need to stop hatin on bruce lee about physics i swear..."oh yeah see thats just a push blah blah blah" shut up....seriously even bruce lee hitting you with that would break your sternum...and he will never be that close to you without killing you first...bruce lee could destroy anyone...dont matter...brock lesner aint got nothin on lee...Lee had to slow down for cameras to capture his movements....and on top of that he had 0% body fat!!! bruce lee changed martial arts forever!!!
@InsertCoinP1 Bruce Lee was no doubt a talented martial artist... but you need to stop being a fan boy and buying the myths... this is a party trick.
That guy is standing in an off balance stance and there is a stool behind him, he can't put his foot out behind himself to support his weight because the chair is in the way... so when he is pushed off balance the chair basically trips him. Look at the way he is standing compared to bruce lee.
@illmitchjax party trick? you like to get punched at your parties? it's an example of power generated by good training and body mechanics of which you have neither. the punch pops a push is a constant force. that is the difference. you obviously have no idea how to do this technique. watch more, u might learn something.
Obviously my body mechanics, training and understanding pale in comparison next to yours
That is clearly why I find this demonstration mundane whilst you are totally IN AWE of somebody demonstrating the effectiveness of a martial arts stance versus the effectiveness of standing off balance, with a chair tripping you the moment your centre of gravity is shifted a few inches
There's a reason you'll NEVER see the other guy in ANY stance, without a chair behind him. Fanboys CHOSE not to see it
@illmitchjax if you see someone demonstrating the effectiveness of a martial arts stance verses the effectiveness of one standing off balance than that is the depth of your understanding. This is a *Demonstration of the power that can be generated by a punch, called the 1 inch punch. Not a myth. regardless of, how you want to look at it, It's still a Demo. Not a contest. You make a valid point. - and there are many fan boys who don't get it. :D
@illmitchjax he stumbles back and THEN falls onto the chair.
not tripped.
Once he falls onto the chair he then trips himself.
if this was myth why does this guy stumble about?
Dont talk as if you have been hit by Bruce Lee, and nothing happend to you or youve seen this happen to someone else that was prepared/had a good stance.
You would probably leave a shit stain on that chair after you Trip off it.
All the people saying anyone can do this, I would just like to hear you NOT CRY once you actually felt the hit. You obviously don't have any idea what you're talking about. Bruce Lee practiced this punch over and over again, and trained to strengthen it. You comparing it to pushing someone off-balance from the same distance shows how ignorant you are of martial arts and the thought and discipline that goes behind it.
I wanted to be more impressed by this than I was. Why not a zero-inch punch, otherwise called "a shove"? That's basically what the one-inch punch amounts to. Still, it's clear in this video that Lee delivers more force that most people could. But the point is that pretty much anyone could shove a another person off balance with very little extension of their arm. There's also the little matter that the guy he punches is part of the act.
"obviouly it is fake and Bruce Lee was an actor but not a fighter." - by TailorBell
this is a good example of a bad comment. it's so stupid. as if to say that master Dan Inosanto was not trained by Bruce Lee. if he wasn't a real fighter then he would have never had any students and schools. not to mention that he was the first one to introduce martial movies around the globe.
I have clues about what I am talking about. It is nothing special since it is very easy to unbalance a person who just stands upright. The reason I said this video was fake is that the person who was pushed by Bruce Lee overreacted as if he had been almost blown off. I hope Bruce Lee freaks do not think that one-inch punchers can generate more force and hurt opponents than boxers.
@TailorBell Haha, it wouldn't be the youtube without idiots trying to downplay anything and everything remarkable. You simply don't understand what's happening in the video.
The one inch punch is nothing new and nothing special. It's a technique called fajing when essentially the entire weight of the body is flung out through a single point.
Research "Fa-jing". It works much like how a person can be flung back at great distances when he/she sticks his/her finger into an electric socket.
@TailorBell of course he was a fighter you retard.... im not even like a bruce lee fan or anything its just how can you deny he's a fighter?? he got his jobs in acting through fighting...
Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris never fought for real in an actual real fight. If they were both in their prime fighting it would all depend on who got the first good hit in. However they are both legends of martial arts and one cannot choose one over another. Respect your fellow fighter but do not hate. Patience is the ultimate key to unlocking power.
@MrKingMP I wanted to see that. All i remembered was that he and Lee used to train to together. Chuck said he saw Bruce suddenly kick the sand bag out of its chain.
@MrKingMP You do know Bruce Lee was Chuck Norris's Martial arts instructor for quite a while right. If Chuck was a better fighter than Bruce it would have obviously been the other way around.
@ratchetclan3 yes i know that. but it's possible to multiply the energy produced by the one inch punch to a full punch. producing more velocity, kinetic energy plus mass. you can't limit the punch from what you see or what you know, but from all possibilities of it.
this punch is not easy! its a combination of ankle pivot to the knee to the hip & to the rear delt to the elbow to the wrist & the wrist springs upward 1-inch to the impact! & this twitch has to be in perfect sequence-& with that in mind-that is a shitload of power created!
@xXMethodKidXx no, actually Bruce lee did not train Chuck Norris a guy named JC Shin did in Korea many years before Lee was know in the us, Norris started in Tang Soo Do
@Chrisjr09 Complete respect for Bruce Lee, but in the Octagon, and possibly in the street, Lesnar has got to be a favorite. Lesnar, while not nearly as experienced as many in MMA is no joke, and a helluva good grappler. Size and strength isn't everything, but in sports it counts for a lot. Lesnar has that all over Lee. Look at the absolute divisions in Judo and BJJ and Submission Grappling. Small players can do quite well but rarely win. they Bruce Lee would probably say the same thing.
@Godsmasher22 , In the octagon they fight based on weight classes. If Bruce got up to the minimum heavyweight size I think he would be too skilled for Brock and if Lesnar were even maximum lightweight size he wouldn't even be skilled enough to be in the UFC to start with.
@Blackwwoolff Which is my point. If you have weight classes then you are already admitting that size and strength matters where skills are more or less equal. Lesnar's grappling skill, mediocre striking will be enough to carry him through most encounters because his skills are augmented by phenomenal attributes.
The question is this is Bruce's skill and attribute set greater in the aggragate than Lesnars? We know Lee's striking martial arts skills were greater. Lee > Lesnar? In total?
@Godsmasher22 , Good point, and Albert Haynesworth might take out Manny, who knows. But size and stregnth are huge advantages and in a controlled setting, the smaller person also is cheated of some of their other neutralizing factors such as eye, knee and throat shots and they also don't have as much room to move, so the bigger person has an advantage, though of course I've seen bigger guys than Lesnar get beat by regular sized guys and black belts get beat by random thugs, so I can't say.
@Blackwwoolff agreed. There are a lot of variables that can make the whole endeavor of predicting who would beat who a crap shoot. I'm just speaking about averages here, and given current trends, I give lesnar the fight in the octagon. In the street flip a coin, but Lesnar is probably fighting with one eye early. ;)
sounds fair enough to me :) . I wanted to add something about the superior resources of today also complicating comparissons of people decades apart (not in reference to these two particularly of course as they'd still be in different weight classes), but it seems it was too long for this box, so I'll post it on your page if you don't mind.
my father worked hard but it doesntt make him a super hero lol, yes he was the father of MMA but was way of track from what we know now, in time after hed sparred some good strikers (thias ect) he would has ditched the kungfu crap & moved into muaythia ect
@nickster1318 yeah he is the father of mma, hes a legend but wasnt anywhere near what muppets like you think he was. Hed have been broke in 2 by Gene Lebell ect. Youl realise all this when you get a bit better, keep practising your touch contact ect
Stats on Bruce haha, yeah 1 of the stats was that hed squat 110 pound 10 times, that is in the bottom 10% of what pro athletes squat the same weight as Bruce. He was very weak at lower body officially speaking. Bruce would never have beat the then Thia champ or out grappled a grappling champ, you guys think his films are real fighting lol. Bruce was a legend but come on guys, you think hes superman, not even close

-Lee defeated three-time champion British boxer Gary Elms by way of knockout in the third round in the 1958
-In 1962, Lee knocked out Uechi, a Japanese black belt Karateka, in 11 seconds in a 1962 Full-Contact match in Seattle.
as for the one inch punch
- "When he punched me that last time, I had to stay home from work because the pain in my chest was unbearable".

People saying this was a trick may not know who the referee was: he was Jhoon Rhee, father of taekkwondo in the USA.
patzer18 9 months ago
@patzer18 Do you people not see that this is clearly a parlor trick? The guy is standing FLAT FOOTED, SQUARED in front of bruce. What does this mean? The man has ZERO base. Nothing. So ANY momentum in that direction would knock him backwards. Furthermore, it's not truly a "one inch punch".. It's more like a "six inch punch" when you add the shoulder, hip and leg movements. Stop swinging from the guy's nuts. He had a passion for martial arts and he was an actor. Even he knew he wasn't the best.

It's just the mechanism that makes it work.

cujo905 11 months ago
for the idiots with the gay hard on for bruce ill explain the trick, first the man getting hit is squared up with no balance, his legs aren't bent nor is his body braced making him fall easily, second the punch is an exaggerated jab (which i doubt any of you understand punching physics) he uses the ridgity of his body (thats why hes side ways so he won't twist) and uses a quick jump with his legs and just follows through to push him over
msfattytrollbitch 11 months ago
@msfattytrollbitch i'd like to see you do that to anyone...
guitarchug95 11 months ago
@msfattytrollbitch quite wrong actually...have u ever even been one inch punched? my trainer keith whos got a blackbelt in brazillian jujitzu from gracie when he trained in brazil one inch punched me and i held 3 stacks of printer paper against my chest and i got knocked back 5 feet and couldnt breathe and i weigh 230 lol so to get hit by a man who perfected the one inch punch is nothing short but incredible...an interview with the man who got hit even said that he was in intense pain for days
smellyc00ch 11 months ago
@msfattytrollbitch Thats exactly what happened. So when Bruce lee would "push" with his jab explains the immediate chest pains they would have for days. You got it bro he was fooling us the whole time but u dont get fooled so easy. Oh and by the way your a fucken moron for discluding the evidence that the move actually does exist and was taught by other people then just him.
trainofaaron 11 months ago
@trainofaaron It's not really "fooling" necessarily. It's misleading to anyone who has ever punched anything before, maybe, but the first thing you should learn about punching is that you don't punch with your fist, or even your arms. You punch with your body.
IAreJackass 10 months ago
@msfattytrollbitch what you say is correct, there is a video on youtube, of Wlad Klitschko getting knocked down in a title fight, but i explained to somone who said Wlad had a glass jaw, was the fact he was caught square on. It is easy to knock someone over when they are facing you "square on!"
dan32113 11 months ago
@msfattytrollbitch You're missing the point. It's not a trick. Punching in kung fu and wing chun uses the whole body. Not rigidity but fluidity - in fact most of the power from this punch comes from a twist in the hips and driving off the back foot. It's not just inch punches, either - straight punches use the same principle and they fking hurt if you don't block correctly. Clearly this man is not blocking, because he's demonstrating the fact that you don't need to swing to land a powerful hit
tSp289 10 months ago
@msfattytrollbitch even though the guy is standing like he is, its still a very powerful blow. i would rather take any other punch than a one inch punch from bruce.
madmike12121 9 months ago

InsertCoinP1 11 months ago
@InsertCoinP1 Bruce Lee was no doubt a talented martial artist... but you need to stop being a fan boy and buying the myths... this is a party trick.
That guy is standing in an off balance stance and there is a stool behind him, he can't put his foot out behind himself to support his weight because the chair is in the way... so when he is pushed off balance the chair basically trips him. Look at the way he is standing compared to bruce lee.
illmitchjax 11 months ago
@illmitchjax party trick? you like to get punched at your parties? it's an example of power generated by good training and body mechanics of which you have neither. the punch pops a push is a constant force. that is the difference. you obviously have no idea how to do this technique. watch more, u might learn something.
illsuive 11 months ago
Obviously my body mechanics, training and understanding pale in comparison next to yours
That is clearly why I find this demonstration mundane whilst you are totally IN AWE of somebody demonstrating the effectiveness of a martial arts stance versus the effectiveness of standing off balance, with a chair tripping you the moment your centre of gravity is shifted a few inches
There's a reason you'll NEVER see the other guy in ANY stance, without a chair behind him. Fanboys CHOSE not to see it
illmitchjax 11 months ago
@illmitchjax if you see someone demonstrating the effectiveness of a martial arts stance verses the effectiveness of one standing off balance than that is the depth of your understanding. This is a *Demonstration of the power that can be generated by a punch, called the 1 inch punch. Not a myth. regardless of, how you want to look at it, It's still a Demo. Not a contest. You make a valid point. - and there are many fan boys who don't get it. :D
illsuive 11 months ago
@illmitchjax he stumbles back and THEN falls onto the chair.
not tripped.
Once he falls onto the chair he then trips himself.
if this was myth why does this guy stumble about?
Dont talk as if you have been hit by Bruce Lee, and nothing happend to you or youve seen this happen to someone else that was prepared/had a good stance.
You would probably leave a shit stain on that chair after you Trip off it.
kevkevTT 11 months ago
All the people saying anyone can do this, I would just like to hear you NOT CRY once you actually felt the hit. You obviously don't have any idea what you're talking about. Bruce Lee practiced this punch over and over again, and trained to strengthen it. You comparing it to pushing someone off-balance from the same distance shows how ignorant you are of martial arts and the thought and discipline that goes behind it.

AH1N1ks 11 months ago
I wanted to be more impressed by this than I was. Why not a zero-inch punch, otherwise called "a shove"? That's basically what the one-inch punch amounts to. Still, it's clear in this video that Lee delivers more force that most people could. But the point is that pretty much anyone could shove a another person off balance with very little extension of their arm. There's also the little matter that the guy he punches is part of the act.

"obviouly it is fake and Bruce Lee was an actor but not a fighter." - by TailorBell
this is a good example of a bad comment. it's so stupid. as if to say that master Dan Inosanto was not trained by Bruce Lee. if he wasn't a real fighter then he would have never had any students and schools. not to mention that he was the first one to introduce martial movies around the globe.
alteph 11 months ago
I have clues about what I am talking about. It is nothing special since it is very easy to unbalance a person who just stands upright. The reason I said this video was fake is that the person who was pushed by Bruce Lee overreacted as if he had been almost blown off. I hope Bruce Lee freaks do not think that one-inch punchers can generate more force and hurt opponents than boxers.

@TailorBell
You have no clue what you're talking about.
The one inch punch is nothing new and nothing special. It's a technique called fajing when essentially the entire weight of the body is flung out through a single point.
Research "Fa-jing". It works much like how a person can be flung back at great distances when he/she sticks his/her finger into an electric socket.
SATConfusion 11 months ago

Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris never fought for real in an actual real fight. If they were both in their prime fighting it would all depend on who got the first good hit in. However they are both legends of martial arts and one cannot choose one over another. Respect your fellow fighter but do not hate. Patience is the ultimate key to unlocking power.
MrKingMP 11 months ago
@MrKingMP I wanted to see that. All i remembered was that he and Lee used to train to together. Chuck said he saw Bruce suddenly kick the sand bag out of its chain.
biobiobio777 11 months ago
@MrKingMP You do know Bruce Lee was Chuck Norris's Martial arts instructor for quite a while right. If Chuck was a better fighter than Bruce it would have obviously been the other way around.
madmike12121 9 months ago
AND THAT'S JUST FROM ONE INCH. IMAGINE GETTING HIT WITH A FULL FORCE BY BRUCE LEE.

Godsmasher22 1 year ago
@Godsmasher22 , In the octagon they fight based on weight classes. If Bruce got up to the minimum heavyweight size I think he would be too skilled for Brock and if Lesnar were even maximum lightweight size he wouldn't even be skilled enough to be in the UFC to start with.
Blackwwoolff 1 year ago
@Blackwwoolff Which is my point. If you have weight classes then you are already admitting that size and strength matters where skills are more or less equal. Lesnar's grappling skill, mediocre striking will be enough to carry him through most encounters because his skills are augmented by phenomenal attributes.
The question is this is Bruce's skill and attribute set greater in the aggragate than Lesnars? We know Lee's striking martial arts skills were greater. Lee > Lesnar? In total?
Godsmasher22 1 year ago
@Godsmasher22 , Good point, and Albert Haynesworth might take out Manny, who knows. But size and stregnth are huge advantages and in a controlled setting, the smaller person also is cheated of some of their other neutralizing factors such as eye, knee and throat shots and they also don't have as much room to move, so the bigger person has an advantage, though of course I've seen bigger guys than Lesnar get beat by regular sized guys and black belts get beat by random thugs, so I can't say.
Blackwwoolff 1 year ago
@Blackwwoolff agreed. There are a lot of variables that can make the whole endeavor of predicting who would beat who a crap shoot. I'm just speaking about averages here, and given current trends, I give lesnar the fight in the octagon. In the street flip a coin, but Lesnar is probably fighting with one eye early. ;)
Godsmasher22 1 year ago
sounds fair enough to me :) . I wanted to add something about the superior resources of today also complicating comparissons of people decades apart (not in reference to these two particularly of course as they'd still be in different weight classes), but it seems it was too long for this box, so I'll post it on your page if you don't mind.
