  • My favorite 80's band. They had a distinctive sound and were unbelievably creative. Marc Moreland was so gifted. RIP MM

  • pretty it is fucking awsam

  • What the heck.... This is pretty awesome.

  • this guy is alright...you can not stop Stan from doing his cover ...he is alright in my book...as far as wall of Vodoo is concerned ...they are wonderful!!

    :)

  • Didnt these guys invent the computer?

  • Is that guitar player on Blow???

    Bless his little heart....

  • @AmericanSurvival101 i believe all of them were to cope with the stress of the crazy amount of shows their shitty record contract was requiring them to do, yes...

  • I really wish this video didn't freeze up near the end! It's a really good performance of this song.

  • Stan should just be the gameshow host he was born to be.

  • Ugh...still broken. This is an awesome recording. Looks like some public tv station. Yes DO fix it, so people can enjoy the file without flaws.

  • These queers are a barrel of monkeys.

  • Just saw Stan last night at Mc'Cabes guitar shop! he's still great!

  • where's the girl from the camoflage video? she's a cutie

  • where's the girl from the camoflage video?

  • Stan Ridgway's so classy, and so freakin awesome.

  • oh no! I should have read the comments before I started watching it, because now that i see it is busted i am really disappointed. This is AWESOME, please fix it.

  • Pretty please... can you fix this clip.

I will wax your car & fix your roof if needed.

I will walk your dog and feed your cat.

  • The intro in with the syth sounds the business.

  • Fix this fuckin video! Please!

  • i wish this song did not stop in the middle this is a bad ass cover of this song. The best cover out there

  • Please upload again! It's great but wont finish.

  • He sounds like a singing Jimmy Stewart

  • everybody is entitled to their own opinion on who can sing what and which version of a song is best, in my opinion camoflage couldnt have been sung by anyone other than stan ridgeway and sounded right its a total classic of the 80,s era but his version of this song is terrible, his style of singing doesnt do the song justice at all and as already pointed out the video freezes anyway which doesnt help matters

  • yeah, hangs.. freezes whatever you want to call it.. the counter keeps counting, but the action it stops.

  • Marc Moreland was awesome.

  • @christoJihad2. I've met Stan a couple of times, and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. He called Marc "chickenhead" because of the way Marc bobbed his head back & forth when he played, y'know, like a chicken.

  • PLEASE Repost!!

  • Can you please delete this and upload it again? It freezes midway through.

  • @Superblazer1 u are very WRONG!!!

  • and he looks like johnny cash too

  • fix the video bud it hangs.

  • Music is not too bad in it, kind of drawn out, but vocals...gotta go.

  • @CPBailey74

The vocals are not going anywhere! You either love Ridgeway's nutty but serious vocal style or you don't.

  • @CPBailey74 lol vocals gotta go that s the bans man.

  • I could watch Marc play that guitar all day. Effing brilliant.

  • and he says he is Ramsey Lewis?

  • I SWEAR THEY ARE SO DOPE AND I CANT WAIT TILL I GET SIGNED SO I CAN PAY TRIBUTE TO THEIR MUSIC

  • This video has been hanging up for over a year dude. Fix it!

  • Johny ...will like tis one :)

  • who the hell could vote no on this

  • Please re-upload this great vid - it's hanging up for some reason or other.

  • So good music but they flop with every lp.

  • Ring of Shite

  • Their version of this is better than Cash's original.

  • What Stan call himself? Ramsey Lewis

  • wonderful

  • Dark Continent has been rereleased in Australia, and you can now repurchase it for a resonable sum, instead of the insane prices that people were paying on eBay for out of print copies. Shame about the end of this video!

  • absolutely awesome

  • Bogs the mind why Justlake12 views are only 62K for the full version in front of a real Mexican crowd that threw popccorn at him

  • Ya the live version here: Justlike12

  • Love this!!

Is there a complete version of this video? This one stops at 2:33, there's half of the song left.

  • Nobody got Johnny Cash in 1982. He wasn't rehabilitated until the early 90's/Rick Rubin. Wall Of Voodoo are about the best early 80's American band.

  • brilliant, luv it

  • awesome...

  • Canal water?...

  • ahead of his time

  • way ahead...

  • I missed my college graduation (1983) just to see these guys AGAIN. Highly recommend "Dark Continent" & "Call of the West". Stan + WOV = perfect match. It was about the music, not the video....

  • can't believe this geezer lit up a fag won't be allowed now

  • True. but in 1982 we were allowed to smoke in hospitals and church. imagine that kids

  • the days before the pussyfication of the western world

  • You can as a "special effect", think smoke machines.

  • Ummm...something is wrong with this video, and I'd really like to see the whole thing.

  • stan...the man....its been a long time! Does he still do this live? anyone know? he"s comin to the coach house soon...doesnt matter...

  • I saw him back in March of this year, and yes, they did ROF. It was the Stan Ridgway Trio with Pietra Wextun on synth and Rick King electric guitar. They nailed this perfectly. In addition to Rick's guitar, Stan played acoustic guitar and got it to make feedback towards the end of the song. I've never heard acoustic guitar feedback before and it was cool. If you don't catch Stan et al when you can, you'll later regret it (even if this particular song is not in the lineup that night).

  • did it have a humbucker usualy the sustain on that will trick you into thinking its feed back because it just sounds so nice it happened to me

  • absolutely fabulous

  • when the man could light up a smoke before signing this fucking SICK! You know we have a long ass way to go before ANYONE will ever be THAT GOOD!

  • RIP Marc, you could have taught some of your peers how to play as well as you.

  • Fucking awesome. Just fucking awesome! so before their time. We are still not at their time yet. Dig the square look. it will always be a classic.

  • he is soooo coooool!

  • OH HELL! I thought it was ME, but this vid craps out at about 2:40 dunnit?! DAMN it, this can't go on my playlist! bummer. Still earns a five star, thanx 80music

  • WOV's ROF was used in a lesbian porn film circa '84.....picture blonde twins

with abnormally long tongues and an equally smokin brunette around a fake desert campfire in the dead of the night..

    Holy Iguanas Capt. Beefheart scorpions

    are stinging my foreskin.

  • Night Dreams

  • Thanks for helpin a 57-1/2 man remember......heading for xhamster

    right now.

  • Yeah, it's called Nightdreams; fucked up film.

  • ..Stan does agreat job on this one...wish we could see the whole thing.

  • This is from the late night TV show 5 All Night Live. About a year before this, the original host was fired for allowing Wendy O Williams to slip off her tube top when they came back from a commercial break. They worked without a delay and anyone watching saw Wendy's nips. Ahhh my youth!

  • Marc Moreland has some serious coke jaw in this vid.

  • lol oh shit he does !!

  • Marc Moreland made those expressions ALL THE TIME when he played guitar, so I'm pretty sure it was not coke jaw.

Marc was reportedly very/extremely shy, so maybe those facial expressions were nervous ticks that he had when he performed.

  • Man o man

  • francie lewis lol

stanard sings better than J Cash!

  • this is a wild version. I like it though somebody has to have this to repost. I surly hope so

  • pretty intense, I hope you repost it so we can see the whole thing-RIP Joe Nannini-he had a look and style that was haunting, for that matter, the whole band did

  • Your welcome

  • Stan is still making great songs and music ! The man is an American treasure. So unique and original. I just love his take on the world. This was cool to see. Thanks for posting.

  • @cactusflower66 Couldn't have said it better myself! We love Stan out here in Tucson.

  • I love the soft (yet static/slightly blurred) appearance of the camera lenses (which seemed to fit with the synthesizer sound alone in the intro) and the intimate environment that was used for this performance. I wish I could've seen the rest though :(.

  • This guys are great and the song is cool

  • Real Shame that this doesn't go all the way. Stan Ridgeway was, IMO, the first artist to, how shall I say, perform the words of each song he performed. Hearing "Wall of Voodoo", without being able to watch Stan, is ultimately disappointing in comparison to watching him on the stage.

  • magic!

  • very different from the original... but cool :P

  • Awesome. =]

  • Cant help feeling that Stan is taking the piss..............

  • This is cool.

  • Look at Marc go on that guitar. God, he was amazing.

  • Is it just me, or does this video freeze up after the 2:30 mark?

  • yes, i wonder if it is a flash 10 bug, since presumably this and other highly rated videos that don't play properly once were ok.

  • I used to go see them in the early eighties, mostly at The Dirt Club in

Passaic NJ, and Call of the West

at The Ritz in NY. Was playing in an

    'original showcasing new wave band'.

I didn't like new wave, but I liked these guys. We played the Dirt Club all the

time too, and Johnny Dirt liked us,

so let us open for them, so I got to hang

out with them in the dressing room which was the fetid basement.

  • what a great performance. Terrific outfits, stan's outstanding charisma. LOVE IT

  • i bet johnny cash would but stan ridgway (and his wall of voodoo band mates) a beer --- in the end, isn't that all that matters?

  • i just saw him yesterday in philly, he's still got it! he's still weird and an amazing rocker!

  • Just saw Stan in Shirley, Mass. last week. Fantastic show. The man still has it! Great twists on old tunes and some cool new ones. What a great songwriter! Right up there with Dylan and Tom Waits. Never knew he played such great guitar. He's one of a kind. Go see him!

  • don't know if this posted before but check out Bruce 'Ravens' Moreland's new stuff on MYSPACE and it's a shame Stan Ridgway broke up a great band. Give me Andy Prieboy any day.

  • Neither did most of what Johnny Cash did -- but that is hardly the point.

  • Just saw him last week in the Detroit area. Man.. older but still rockin'!!! What an awesome show!!!!! Has some new stuff, need to check it out. He's on tour until April. Stan you are the man.

  • Does anyone know what Stan's been up to for the last 25 years? I used to love these guys, but haven't heard anything from or about them since the mid-80s...

  • Adam Lambert did Jeff Buckleys version of this song NOT Wall of Voodoo!

  • jeff buckley never covered "ring of fire."

  • Adam lambert did Delana's version of "ring of Fire".

  • Maybe Adam should have done this one......its so much better.

  • This is the version that Adam Lambert used in AI---

  • No it's not. Not even close.

He did the version that Dilana sang on

    Rockstar Supernova.

  • Wow! Nice and goofy! I love it!

  • haven't seem any comments, even the positive ones that really 'get' this unfortunately attenuated video. Stan hasalways said that JC and his stage presence was something that he was able to learn from.

and i'm sur the Ramsey Lewis [Trio] reference is totally lost on everyone.

please, everyone who likes Stan and the band should remember just how 'cutting edge; they were. ofteten copied, seldom matched.

  • this is great i`ve seen people falling down drunk trying to kareoke this that sounded like total shit

  • We all have our own opinions, and Stan meant no disrepect for Johnny. Stan still rocks!

  • craigmazzali, yes he is still alive and well. and he is greatest singer alive. so u can shove ur comment up ur ass

  • I must say, this is by far my favourite version of this song. To be honest I'm not much of a Johnny Cash fan, this is probably my favourite one of his songs that I have heard and his wife wrote it.

  • gotta love the wall of voodoo..... early techno you could say. got all of it started, i applaud them for thinking outside the box!

  • Haha, despite my inane comment earlier something about this song strikes me well. It's very different from the original version so it's hard to compare. I like them both

  • I love both versions of this song. I just want to know; what is up with Stan Ridgway's microphone? It's huge! Were microphones more high-tech in the early 80's?

  • I do not like this version to be honest. BUT, Wall of Voodoo and Johnny Cash are about as far apart on the music spetrum as you can get, and for them to respect Cash enough to play one of his songs, in ANY style, is ok in my book!

  • On a good sound system, the pulsing synthesizer sound makes this very hypnotic. In a funny way, some 20+ years later Johnny Cash flipped the gendres back the other way by doing a song like Depeche Mode's 'Personal Jesus' on his last album. Great songwriting stands the test of time, especially when the songs play well in different styles.

  • My buttcrack says "COCK!"

  • stan the man, fuckin genius nuff said

  • Hwy, what happened to this vid? It just drops dead right in the middle ... something wrong?

  • I respect your opinion, but disagree wholeheartedly. This is a great example of a cover song... in my opinion. BECAUSE what they do is take a country song (the great Cash's "Ring of Fire" here) and perform it with a New Wave style (heavy on synths, and Ridgeway's near sarcastic vocals). I don't know, I just liked this band, and this song.

  • i liked their cover ! it is different but good !

  • You are an idiot. Disgrace you dont even know who wall of voodoo is. Damm you must be from the south or midwest.

  • your right i dont know who wall of voodoo is. im sure they have some great tunes however it is my beliefe that they dont do this song justice. and no im not from the south i am from ontario.(if that counts as midwest)

  • Ok I apologize for my comments I was drunk. But is not fair to say that Wall of Vodoo is not great. I admit I am not a fan of Johnny cash, but I do know his songs. Stan Ridgeway is very talented, but never gain major following.

  • oh you're canadian... ok then.

  • or he could be right. This is shit.

  • please... I am trying not to call you names... you dont know music so keep your opinions for something else.. ok ?

I wont talk about guns or sport or subjects I am not into...

i discovered morricone through em.. had to later but.. it's the 80's man.. call of the west is a great album so is the mini lp..

  • Shame it ends before the coda.

Marc was an incredibly confident guitarist,

    very talented.

I'd have loved to hear how he finished off live version.

    WOV are my favourite group.

    Thanks.

  • Wall of Voodoo were one of my favourites in younger years and - as I saw this video - I think they still are ...

Seen them live twice in Germany ...

    Thanx!

  • i used to have that sort of haircut back in the 80s, mexican radio was a minor hit in the only discotheque that wasn't patronized by horny sailors

  • Wow! Nice and goofy! I love it!

  • RIP Marc and Joe...thanks for the awesome gigs and unique music.

  • How xome it stops at the 3 minute mark?

  • I'm having the same problem. They have the call of the west door, Stan is enjoying a cigarette, and it stops before the crazy feedback coda. I use mozilla.

  • Wow, I've never seen this before. It is merde.

  • Loved Marc Moreland's guitar solo at 1:45-sloppy but he definately had his own signature style,RIP Marc.

  • Saw 'em three times back in '82 and they were great. Never got the recognition they deserved.

  • This is a really cool cover that even adds something to the original.

  • I saw Stan play Boise a couple years ago-He was cool enough to hang out with his fans after the show-He autographed an old copy of Call of the West on vinyl I've had lying around for years-Great meeting him!

  • Such an underated musician from the 80's.. Stan is a huge talent. Go see him live if you get the chance. He plays small gigs in LA from time to time.. They really covered this song well..

  • Ridgeway is an icon.

  • Dumb fu*&&(cks this is classic. Learn to distinguish great musicians

  • Stan does this track the modern justice that it deserves . Long live Mr Cash - Cash is dead so long live Ridgeway.

  • Hmm, you should hear Devo's version of the Stone's "Satisfaction"

  • It's actually pretty cool and a nice tribute to Cash. A great song either way.

  • fair enough each to there own

  • video always stops at 2 mins and change. This was a great cover but I'd love to hear Eric Burdon's version from the "Love Is"album.

  • seeing this makes me think radiohead isn't all that original.

  • Why does this even make you think of radiohead?
