haha, love the instructor. cool and calm all the time: "countersteer right, countersteer right! alright throw the reserve now ..." and later: "what does the script say? wingovers are a live-threatening maneuver, and nobody believes it ..."
Was that reserve the correct size for his weight? It looked like his sink-rate was mega high. I'd be a bit dubious whether I could land that fast on the ground without getting hurt.
just a matter of time,,,everyone who fly's these thing's is going to use a reserve, or crash bad enough to get hurt. These thing's lull you into a sense of security,,then kill you. Way more dangerous than they get credit for.
I really am not shocked to see this comment coming from an ultra light pilot. As a commercial pilot, pg pilot and someone who has been around aviation a lot in general I see more dangerous attitudes coming from UL pilots then anything else. And as we all know (or maybe you dont yet), its the pilot not the craft that gets you killed. Just like your ultra lights, these "things" have limits, and if a pilot DECIDES to fly outside the limits the chance of getting hurt goes up.
BULLSHIT! Flying safe is Height and Speed! Every professional Pilot knows that. Throwing reserve is nothing dangerous. I dont think that flying aeroplanes is less dangerous. They even dont have a reserve (only Ultralight motor planes). But some of us have two of them!
What you are saying is not accurate. My instructor has been flying for almoast 20 years, He only used the reserve during a SIV. Think of that since he is on 7 different paragliding trips every year apart from the normal flying with stydents etc.
in fact, you usually look at the wing and then look for reserve hand and after you've located it, you immediately pull the reserve, without looking at the wing.
WHy do they pull reserves over the water? Theyr not falling that fast..

Dieser Notschirm sinkt ja extrem schnell! Wenn der das über Boden macht....

Not enough speed? Was that it?

That bell effect after he released reserve: that's why you have to do a b-line stall after pushing the reserve.

good question - are they?
crazymrlee 3 years ago
im sure some are, but most are not. But they dont use them flying over water anyway doing this kind of training.

@tubenn you're right, but this guy was not even close to the limit of the glider, he simply was not in control of it.
