  • George C. Scotts facial expressions are priceless in this scene

  • "It's great to be fine. Haahaahaahaa."

  • This phone "conversation"was completely improvised by Sellers, it wasn't included in any script, he just picked up the phone and began to improvise.

  • Are you kidding me? Kubrick has an incredibly dark sense of humor. Not only this, but Lolita, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket. There is such a thing as black comedy.

  • @richardjduke I agree with you but the Shining is Stephen King.

  • It is funny how this movie has been always so acclaimed, considering that it is a comedy made by, after all, one of the few filmmakers in the long history of film who had absolutely no sense of humour. And I don't mean to underestimate Kubrick...he is one of my favourite filmmakers: I love Barry Lyndon and like a lot A Clockwork Orange, 2001, Paths of Glory, The Killng, Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket, even The Shining...but humour was just not his thing... :p

  • I mean (just to elaborate): where can humour be found in Stanly Kubrick's filmography? Almost nowhere...all his movies are so grave and solemn...and in this case, even if the visual and narrative construction are peculiar, I think the movie tries to be funny by simply exaggerating every action and characterization to the point that it becomes absurd...but there is no comic timing, there is no wit, it completely lacks rhythm...honestly, I love Kubrick, but he had the sense of humour of a cylon...

  • @javialacarga you don't get the movie then

  • George C. Scott's expressions during the conversation are priceless...it tells a story...

  • Peter Sellers + Stanley Kubrick + Terry Southern = Awesome

  • Of course I like to say hello.

  • Peter Sellers looks exactly like Adali Stevenson here.

  • @xXxDrStrangelovexXx I'm a guy that needs to be told why this is funny.

  • @EdwardElric555 ok thats fine well this isn't one of the funniest scenes in the movie but i do love this scene. Only people who have seen the movie will probably enjoy this to the level that i did.

  • "It's a friendly call, of course it's a friendly call!"

  • This scene is so damn brilliant. Peter Sellers is amazing! In the commentary, they said that Peter Sellers improved everything past the "Hello Demitri!"

  • he went and did a silly thing

  • But he'll see the big board!

  • Legendary scene. Peter Sellers is God.

  • I never thought I would crack up with this again!

  • Hello dimitri???

wait till mcain and his smart tart have to ring sevastopol 999.

    Oh Dear..

  • Stanley Kubrick was a fuckin genius.

  • I love this scene, Sellers plays it so well. A staple in on-screen comedy.

  • What movies do you think are funny?

  • this was an amazing movie. we watched it in US after our AP exam was over

  • I watched it in Honors Contemporary World History. Its the best class to take in High School.

  • Heh. I really like this film, and this is one of my favourite scenes.

  • George C. Scott was brilliant in this film, even when he was just reacting and not talking.

  • one of the greatest and funniest scenes ive ever witnessed on film

  • I did this in a monolouge for Drama today as my final. Awesomeness.

  • i have to do this monolouge tis friday

  • shit, this would have been an amazing monolouge, I wish I thought of doing this...

  • Awesome... I do drama at my school.. and I imagine this would be pretty difficult.

  • Peter Sellers was an awesome actor. He does a spot on American accent, I wouldn't have know if I wasn't told.

  • What the fuck are you two talking about?

  • I really don't know. Whatever it is, I can't see what it has to do with this clip.

  • I will stop the witches of eastwick sending you spams OK? They will never bug you ever again!!

  • The realy love start if you meet someone and

speak and live with him together. I know this theorie of satre, but I want to meet you and don`t make a interviev what you are, or make!I dont like to handle people in this way. You made it with me, in this way- a checklist- ok. I`m very worry about you.

  • sure...

I'll meet with u, live with u, speak to u also...

any other things u want to list as a wishlist for this christmas...

  • If you respect someone, you start to respect his/her feeling inside. If you love someone, you start to meet this person, but you don`t like to meet me. That is the reality. And it`s realy unrespectfuly.peacemonster. And if I feel with it very bad, than it`s your part to change something!

  • Respect? I lost my respect to humanity... Look around... Look at the world, what do u call a human? Look into the eyes of humanity... What do u see... If you ask me I see nothin... To get respect, one must earn it if u ask me...

  • Yes, you can see in all eyes, if they have a feeling inside. That`s why we speak about dead eyes or bright eyes. Deep inside we can feel a ...

    ..a wishlist... ????

  • You will make a wishlist for this Christmas...

I will be your Santa... I will make sure you will get your wishlist OK?

  • DURACI

  • ...just ask for Omsk information....

  • This is a really well-chosen scene (well done the poster!). The 'regret gap' phone call is just classic. It quite brilliantly reinforces the film's gentle (in spite of its theme) reminder to the laughing audience of the depth and scale of our folly.

That sounded pompous, didn't it? Well, I just don't care...

  • everything that gets close

to the bomb must of necessity

get perverted in some kind of way

style distortion ranks way bellow mind

distortion in the military hierarchy of insanities

  • You've kind of boiled that down to an essence that's a bit too rich in ideas for me to be able to stomach. Care to explain for the idiots (like me)?

  • welll...

    i think that could be

    meant to mean

    that i might be

    the idiot, Dimitri :)

  • lol

  • classic movie

  • one of our base commanders went a little funny in the head and did a silly thing....

  • In my humble opinion (and bless Mr. Kubrick for making this film!) I reckon this is one of the best films outlining the futility and stupidity of war - along with 'All quiet on the western front' - that last scened with the poppy is brilliant!

  • If it weren't for Peter Sellers, George C. Scott would have been no.1 in this movie.

  • I heard that Kubrick asked George C. Scott that during filming they do each scene a few times, and for each scene to act "Over the top" at least once. When the film was finally edited together all the scenes where he acted "Over the top" were the only ones Kubrick used.

  • Well let me finish Dimitri!

  • One of the best movies ever made.

  • "it's great to be fine"

  • I love movies with happy endings

  • "He went and did a silly thing."

  • "...don't say that you are more sorry than i am because i am capable of just as sorry as you are" LOL

  • Code Red scramble all Maple Leafs, all Maple Leafs to your French-Canadian figter jets. These planes must be shot down. Call Canadian meterological services ask for the clearances.

  • "Of course it's a friendly call!" LOL

  • THis movie has one of the funniest quotes ever- "Gentlemen, you can't fight here! This is the War Room!" LOL

  • Genious, he improvised a lot in this scene.

  • "be careful, mr president, i think he's drunk"

    LOL

  • Kubrick's Best, no wonder Iraq is such a mess

  • "We'll just have to help you shoot them down."

    "I know they're our boys."

    The greatest film comedy ever.

  • The Bomb Dimitri, The Hydrogen Bomb

  • Well I am perfectly capable of being as sorry as you are Dimitri!

One of the funniest movies ever made for sure.

  • Hands down the greatest phone conversation in the history of cinema.

  • I love his nasal laugh after he says "it's great to be fine"

  • ur fine?...i'm fine too...yes...it's good to be fine...

  • Sellers and Scott are absolutly briliant

    in this film !!!!

  • funniest scene ever!!!!

  • You just might be right. Absolute genius.
